from the Editor

Ken Hamm has a new book that attempts to explain why 2/3 of evangelical youth leave the church when they reach their twenties. You read that right, we lose 2/3 of the youth of our churches when they reach young adulthood.

That statistic raises an immedi-ate question. Why? What are we doing wrong? We teach that the job of the church is to reach the world for Christ and fail to keep our own children as a part of the church.

Faced with such a startling reality, Hamm commissioned a scientifi c study that called 20,000 of these young adults to fi nd out why they left. The study did an in-depth interviews with one thousand 20 to 29 year olds who were regular attendees before they left.

Conducted by Britt Beemer, a former senior research analyst for the Heritage Foundation, the study led him and Hamm to a star-tling conclusion. They attribute the exodus to a lack of confi dence in the truth of the Bible.

Most of these folks were taught one thing in school and something different in Sunday School. Most were given a steady diet of evolu-tion daily in school and taught a completely different story in church. The problem is, most consider what they were taught in church to be just that, a story.

They consider the school to be a source of information about sci-ence and the church to be a source of information about religious mat-ters. To most the two do not mix.

To make the problem worse, much of the church today has backed away from a literal interpretation of Genesis. They like to teach that it is allegory. Or that the idea that God created the earth does not make sense in light of scientifi c discovery. Sadly, many in the church believe that you can throw out the idea that that Genesis is literal and truthful when it says that it all happened in six, twenty-four hour days and still

accept the truth of the rest of the Bi-ble. They would attest that one can believe the parts about salvation and the character of God without accepting the truth of the fi rst book.

Sorry. It doesn’t work that way. If we are lied to on the fi rst few pages of a book, why should be believe any of the rest. Especially when the author goes to great lengths to tell us how important it is that we believe and act on what He says.

For too long we have accepted the fact that some Christians do not believe in the Genesis account of a six day creative act by God alone. And it is almost certain that it was only about 6000-10,000 years ago. We have acceded to their demands

that we not insist this “religious opinion” be taught to our children. We are now paying the price.

Hamm says in his book, Already Gone “What you see in the Bible is that when there is compromise in one generation, and it’s not dealt with, you usually notice it to a greater extent in the next genera-tion.”

If I cannot believe God when He says “I created the earth in six days,” why should I believe him when He says the wages of sin is death. And why should I accept his statement that He is the only way to heaven. After all, the same voices that are telling me that the earth is billions of years old and just happened are also saying that if there is a god there are many ways to fi nd him. And if he is as loving as the church tells us he is, he would never send anyone to hell, if it exists.

Am I being an alarmist? Nope, too late for alarmism. It’s basically over. We have lost a generation to those who know that evolution does not work but refuse to accept God so they persist in teaching their brand of unbelief.

What should our reaction be. We need to wake up to the fact that our teaching of God’s word must be unapologetic and fi rm. God’s truth is the only truth there is. Anything else in this universe that is true stems from Him. We cannot afford to loose another generation because we are afraid of offending the world. After all, how smart can they be, they think the universe just happened!

Is It True?Is It True?

Missouri Show-Me Missions

The Show-Me Plan proposal is no longer a proposal.

The assembly at the State Meeting did approve to change the “plan” from a system that raises funds for our international missionar-ies only, to including State and National missions under its name as well. This means that when the term “Show Me Plan” is used to promote Free Will Baptist mis-sions in Missouri it will mean that this plan is to help to support the spread of the Gospel in our state, nation and world. Even if I have been to your church, or to your association meeting, in the last several months to explain what those changes are you probably don’t remember all the details. Hopefully this article will give you the opportunity to remember those details. If this is your fi rst time to hear or read about it, then read over this article and feel free to give me a call for further explanations.

Here are some things to under-stand about this funding system change for our Missouri mission-aries:

• This change will not take place until January 1 of 2010. The Show-Me Plan will stay the same as always through 2009. Continue to support your Free Will Baptist missionaries just like you always have through the rest of this year.

• The funds will be split: 60% will go to International Mis-sions. 30% will go to State Missions and 10% will be split among our National missionaries that have ties to Missouri.

• The new Show-Me Plan will not be a main supporter of any National Missionaries. It is estimat-ed that the three National Mission-aries that will receive funds from the Show-Me Plan in 2010 will be receiving less than 800.00 a month each. You and your church will still need to continue to support your National Missionaries.

• This new Show-Me Plan will be supplying ½ of the SMP (Strategic Ministry Partnership) funds for our Missouri Internation-al Missionaries. Strategic Ministry Partnership is the designated part of the each international mission-ary’s budget. Many of our Missouri international missionaries have ties to other states that are planning to help with this need as well through their mission support plans.

• All the donations given to the Show-Me Plan will continue to be a 100% supporter of Free will Baptist missions. All staff (me) and promotion costs will come from our, previously designated, coop-erative allotment that we receive from our state.

• If you are currently des-ignating funds to an International Missionary, those designations could switch to Show-Me Plan in January of 2010. This is because the new Show-Me Plan will also be helping to support the Internation-al Missions General Fund which supports all of our International Missionaries.

All of our Missouri Free Will Bap-tist missionaries have been con-tacted about these changes, as well as, our denominational leaders that direct our International and National missions departments. I will be continuing to get to our churches and associations in our state to give as many as possible a chance to hear about the change before the actual change this com-ing January.

Thank you for your prayers in this matter and may God bless us as we make this historic move to make Missouri Free Will Baptist missions more unifi ed for the support of the Gospel in our State, Nation and World.

The Thayer WAC held a “Have a Heart for Missions” fundraiser in January and Feb-ruary. We held a contest for the title of “King and Queen for Missions.”

Each Sunday School class chose a king and queen candidate, and the classes collected a special offering each week to go towards missions.

Our king and queen were Dean and Lela Jones. We were able to raise $889.57 for Missouri Missions. We would encourage each church to help support Missouri Mis-sions. Doing something like “King and Queen for Missions” creates excitement and we were able to help support the missionaries from our state.

Antioch, TN—To inform supporters of Free Will Baptist International Missions of our current fi nancial standing and our ongoing efforts to remain fi scally responsible, the Mission is posting a monthly video report on its website (fwbgo.com). Rob Conley, director of fi nancial opera-tions/CFO for the Mission, will issue a 60- to 90-second video statement after he has closed the books for the previous month.

The theme for the 96th annual Missouri State Association of Free Will Baptists was “Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life.” We were treated to three great sermons developing these points each evening of the meeting.

On Monday evening, Jim Wil-liams, pastor of First FWB in Carthage led us to the theme with “Jesus the Way.” On Tuesday evening, Cletus Ni-chols, pastor at First Church at Viburnum continued by help-ing us see Jesus as the Truth and on Wednesday evening, Stan Bunch, Missionary to Panama completed the picture with Jesus as the Life.

Our event had started with the Youth Service on Sun-day evening followed by the competitive activities after the service and on Monday. The evening service Monday was the opening for the State As-sociation with music provided by Hillsdale.

Tuesday was a day of activity for our Missouri Women Active for Christ featuring the opening business session followed by a service at the eleven o’clock hour. Kendra Dodson spoke about making a difference with compassion. Their afternoon business session followed and was concluded with Sarah Fletcher from the National WNAC Offi ce installing the of-fi cers for the coming year.

While the MoWAC were meet-ing, the State Executive Com-mittee and the State General Board met on Tuesday as well. The evening service featured the music of Free Will Baptist Bible College.

State Meeting 2009State Meeting 2009Wednesday was a day of busi-ness. Darren Alvis, Pastor of Copper Mines FWB Church started the day by pointing us to God’s Word for our inspiration for the day to follow. Reports from all our State Offi ce and Boards were presented along with reports from our national Agen-cies as well as several regional ministries.

Among the reports were sig-nifi cant items presented for the bodies approval. In the Execu-tive Offi ce and Gem Magazine report, we approved going to a bi-monthly production schedule for Gem Magazine to help with budgetary considerations. This is a preventative measure in light of the Cooperative Fund being down about 8% at this point.

Frank Webster presented a uni-fi ed giving plan from our Missou-ri Missions Board. It will support International Missions, National Home Missions and State Home Missions , all from the same fund, to be called the Show-Me Plan.

Our Christian Education Board presented the hiring of a part time director of their work. His efforts will be directed toward promot-ing all our Christian educational activities in our churches, es-pecially the L.A.M.B. program. Jerry Norris was named as their choice for this post. Jerry has just retired from his longtime position as pastor of Calvary Fellowship Church in Felton. He has also resigned as chairman of the C.E. Board.

Youth Camp Board reported another great year with good attendance and joyous altar response at our sessions last year. They also presented the fl ag fl own over camp last year to Ronnie Blanks, Pastor of First Free Will Baptist Church in West Plains. Bro. Ronnie is retiring this year after many successful years

Page 7: Missouri Free Will Baptist Magazine - Amazon S3...as we make this historic move to make Missouri Free Will Baptist missions more unifi ed for the support of the Gospel in our State,

as chairman of the Camp Board. All our other boards reported a good year in 2008 as well.

At the beginning of the evening service, Dennis Jones was honored for 30 years of service to Lebanon Bible and Bookstore and all our missionaries in at-tendance were recognized as well. The special music for the evening was provided by Jodi Simpson. Jodi and her husband Ken have served the Beacon Church in Raytown for several years but have currently moved to serve the Calvary Fellowship Church of Fenton

When the evening was over, we were all able to leave the Clarion Hotel in Springfi eld, knowing that we have been faithful to do the Lord’s business and have worshiped together to His Glory and Honor.

We look forward to the meeting next year May 30- June 2 at the same location.

What a great time we had at the MO State Meeting.Sunday evening was exciting. The energy of the young people was fantastic. To get to see so many FWB youth worshipping and the dedication in the compe-tition was great!I again enjoyed the MoWAC meeting. I felt like a thorn among the roses. It was so en-couraging to see so many godly women meeting to praise the Lord, report, plan and fellow-ship.The business session was con-ducted so well and what encour-aging reports of people being saved and what MO FWB’s are doing in MO and around the world. The MO “Show-Me” Free Will Baptists are showing the way. May God continue to bless.Roger BennettAlabama FWB Children’s Home

The last Sunday in May saw almost 350 people register for the annual Student and Children’s Ministry (SCM) Music and Arts Festival. Held in conjunction with the 96th annual Missouri State Association of Free Will Baptists, the event was judged a major success by all who attended. There were 110 competitors in the Bible and various arts.

Anticipation was high as the evening began with a worship service in the Ball-room at the Clarion Hotel in Springfi eld. Music was provided by the praise band from Calvary Chapel church in Buffalo and Andy Rains, Youth Pastor at

First Church in Thayer brought a great message.

The service was followed by the fi rst few of a total of six hours of competition. When the dust had settled on Mon-

day afternoon, the competition was over and the awards were given. Sixty fi ve young people will be representing Missouri at the National SCM Conference in July in Cincin-nati, Ohio. Please pray for their safety and as they perform in everything from music, drama and arts to Bible competition.

Pastor Dan Talbott of the Parkway Free Will Baptist Church in Sedalia writes

“On Sunday, April 5th, Paul Walker gave h is heart to the Lord and was baptized on April 26th. This is one of four saved in the fi rst four months of 2009. On April 19th we baptized Jean Perry and Cheressa Miley.

Also that day, Jeremy and Cheressa dedicated their baby boy Landon. God is blessing the Parkway Church in Se-dalia. Attendance is around 35 and we have visitors worship with us regular-ly. Pray with us that God’s blessings will continue on His church.”

Dedication Service And One-year Anniversary Celebration

On April 5th, Hilltop Free Will Bap-tist Church in Houston, Missouri dedicated their building to the Lord and celebrated their one-year an-niversary at their present location.

As the congregation gathered with folks from the Green Hills Free Will Baptist Church in Lebanon, the First Free Will Baptist Church at Waynesville, the First Free Will Baptist Church in Rolla, First

Baptist Church of Ray-mond-ville, North-side Baptist Church in Hou-ston,

guests from other churches from around the area along with the members of Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church greetings were exchanged and everyone looked forward to the special service.

The cel-ebration began with board chair-man Brad Vander-hye and

board member Jason Ingram handing out awards to those who had been active in the work and service of the church from its inception on September 28,2007 .

Awards were then presented to Ja-

son Ingram and Marilou Candela (a tie) for most outstanding service dur-ing the year, a practice that will be continued each fi rst Sunday of April in the future.

Board mem-ber Gerald Koogler, board mem-ber Jason Ingram and board chair-man, Brad Vanderhye read from the Scripture

Some of the youth of the church ex-pressed their joy for the church and the building while pledg-ing their support for the church .

While the awards were being handed out a young man, Chris-tian Hart-ford, came forward and was saved.

Rev. Gary Fry, Ex-

Hilltop Church CelebratesHilltop Church Celebrates

ecutive Director of the Mis-souri State Association was the keynote speaker and brought an outstanding message that was enjoyed by everyone.

The service was followed with a fellowship dinner beginning with the presentation of a birth-day cake (P9) for the church on its birthday here at Hilltop.

The youth Sunday school classes had made a time-line banner with pictures showing the time-line from September 28,2007 to the present time. The banner covered the whole east wall of the foyer of the church.

Our motto has become Philip-pians 4: 19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” and we know that our God owns the cattle on a thousand hills (psalm 50: 1 0) and yes; He owns the hills the cattle are on also.

We will never cease to praise God, our Creator and Supplier until we meet together with the rest of His people and cast our unworthy crowns before His throne, and say,

“You are worthy, 0 Lord, To receive gloly and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were cre-ated”

We are very thankful for what the Lord has done here at South Fremont! It is a great privilege to be the pastor of South Fremont Free Will Baptist Church. As I have grown to love the people that the Lord has given me the opportunity to serve with, I realized that there were some things that we needed to celebrate together! The Lord has been so good to us!

On Sunday March 1, 2009, we set aside that day to be Celebration Sunday. The plan for this service was to come together and refl ect on the history of South Fremont, to honor those who have served us as pastor, and to celebrate what the Lord is still doing here.

As the service began we were asked to sing with Bill McPhail. Bro Bill has served as our music leader for several years now. Then we were blessed by a special greeting from our Missouri State Executive Director, Bro. Gary Fry. Bro. Fry thanked the church for it’s years of dedication and commitment to the work of Free Will Baptists in our state. Next in the service was an op-portunity to hear from those who have previously served as Pastor. Unfortunately, not all of our former pastors were able to be here with us. Those who were not able to at-tend were represented by a letter of greeting that they sent to be read in the service.

Pastors who were present were Bro. Bill Adkisson, Bro. Dale Skiles and current pastor Travis Watkins. Unable to attend the service were Bro. Wayne Wagner, Bro. Tommy Franks and former Associate Pastor Bro. Derald Schumate. It was great to hear all of the wonderful things that the Lord included them in as they served our church family.

The service continued to celebrate to good-ness of God by having a Note Burning. South Fremont had become debt free in 2008. The members of the church board who were present, participated in this part of the service. They are Bro. Coday Draper, Bro. Gene Easterwood, Bro. Bill McPhail and Bro. Richard Pointer. As every church realizes, when the debt is gone, fi nances are freed up to do more ministry. That is a great blessing from God!

As if the history of South Fremont and the Note Burning were not enough, Pastor Travis Watkins had the great opportunity to baptize three children in the church family who had recently asked Jesus to come into their hearts. These children were led to Jesus in the Wednesday night youth ministry classes that are done in the home of Travis and Johnna Watkins. Johnna does an outstanding job teaching and training the children of our church! The children baptized were Hanna Wilson, Haley Wilson and Tucker Wade Watkins. Tucker is the son of Travis and Johnna. The initial plan was to baptize fi ve of our church kids, but Sabria and Deante’ Johnson, because their family could not be with us on Celebration Sunday, were baptized the following week.

To conclude the service, Pastor Travis in-formed the church that the launch of a new Saturday Evening contemporary service would be Saturday March 7, 2008. This is a new ministry of the church that has been a great source of excitement and motivation for the younger families of our congrega-tion and it has also been a great source of new contacts. The Lord has truly blessed in this service.

I am extremely grateful to have the op-portunity to serve with my family here at South Fremont, and I look forward to continuing the celebration of what the Lord desires to do here! Way to go South Fre-mont!

By J. Mark Vandivort

“What kind of bread are you making for the ducks this time, Dad?” asked four-year-old, Lauren as she climbed up onto the kitchen counter. Steve couldn’t suppress a chuckle. Our son enjoyed baking bread in their new machine. It came with recipes but he enjoyed creating his own exotic mixtures. Some were favorites of his and Jacqueline’s three children. But some of his creations were rel-egated to “duck bread”—to be fed to Scriber Lake’s ducks.

Can “duck bread” serve a good purpose? Who can measure the value of bright-eyed children, squealing with delight, gener-ated by a plastic bag of stale bread? At Scriber Lake Park a well manicured trail leads through high reeds and wetland shrubs to a fl oating dock. There one can see several varieties of ducks, by the dozens, scoop and dive for the “duck bread” treats. From near the eastern shore of the lake two large birds have been known to extend their wings, and leave the surface of the water, much like two pontoon planes. After winging their way to a landing near the dock, those two beautiful white swans have also demanded their share of the “duck bread”.

Years later, at the time of this writing, Lauran enjoys drama and has served on an award winning Lego Robotics team with her brother. She has also traveled with her family to help build a church in a third world country.

The recipe that failed. Sometimes our best efforts seem to turn out to be “duck bread”. Don’t consider

your efforts a waste. Let God take care of the results. Solomon wrote, “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will fi nd it after many days” (Ecclesiastes 11:1, NKJV). Steve wouldn’t have discovered the recipe that his children enjoyed if he had not experimented. Eventually he achieved good results. The sea

merchant that Solomon wrote about had a good return on his investment. However, he had to set sail across the water in order to do so.

At least two things were ac-complished by feeding the ducks. Steve learned from his experi-ence, and his children learned as they shared in his labors. Sec-ondly, they experienced excite-ment in watching, and perhaps helping their dad make bread, then later helping feed the ducks.

As much as is safe and practi-cal, allow your family (or trusted friends) to have a share in your

COUNTRY CHAPLAINCOUNTRY CHAPLAIN“Duck Bread”“Duck Bread”

“bread making”. One way to accomplish this is to allow your children to join with you in prayer regarding your challenges—and theirs. Your children’s prayers can become a part of your daily job routine. Important life lessons can be forever imprinted in a child’s heart by seeing prayers answered. What an effective way to learn of

the reality of our Creator/God.

Learn to make good use of your “duck bread”. The Bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:26, NKJV). Let God who loves you take your disappointing “duck bread” experience and turn it around for some good purpose.

Have you made the mistake of tossing your “duck bread” ex-perience into the trash? Learn and build upon your past ef-forts. Began to plan, study and

work toward successful achieve-ment in the future.

Just a note to tell you some of what is going on around here. We are back at Pharr at the moment, paying bills, opening mail, and getting ready to head out and shop for the E-TEAM that will arrive on the 16th. Will be head-ing back to Altamira tomorrow or soon after. Sunday morning at 8:30 we arrived back to Altamira from a fantastic trip to Tamale, Guerrero. It is something that I had been planning for over a year, along with the offi cers of our Mexican National Free Will Bap-tist women’s group. All together nine of us made the trip, the four offi cers, Brother Lazaro de la Rosa, our senior pastor, and his wife Eva, Luis Ansuara, a layman who heads up the Agape Mission Team, Bud and me.

The nearly 24 hour trip took us to the remote village-absolutely at the end of the road, four hours south of Acapulco and then another hour and fi fteen minutes back into the boonies. The last 45 minutes are over narrow, rut-ted, dirt roads winding between pastures and papaya fi elds end-ing just a healthy walk from the ocean. I kept wondering how in the world did we happen to have a Free Will Baptist Church there.

It all started when a local family moved to Guadalajara years ago. When we fi nally arrived at the church we were warmly received by the pastor Simon Nieves and his wife Matilda and ushered to the house next door to the church where Tila Cisneros and her hus-band also extended their hands of welcome. They had fi gured out where we would all stay, four of us at Tila’s house and fi ve ladies in rooms at the back of the church. We visited a while then fell into bed-and a hard bed it was. I was very glad that we had taken pil-lows. Wednesday morning we were awakened by the burro,

turkeys, dogs barking and Tila’s six year old son singing a little song as he got ready to go to school. Everyone in the little colony works in agriculture. Most everyone milks some cows and has turkeys, chick-ens, a pig tied here or there, goats, and some sheep. Many work in a huge papaya plantation. The owner comes once a week to pick up fruit and hauls it to Mexico City to sell.

We did what we hoped to do. We organized the ladies and went out in small groups on Thursday all over the village inviting the women to come to our Friday meeting. Friday was the National Day of Prayer for our Mexican FWB national women’s organization. We were delighted to have three of the women visited attend. I spoke Friday morning then that afternoon our national offi cers had planned activities and provided everything needed for the women to make a pretty hand craft. On Friday nights the church has a regular service so the pastor turned it over to us and I spoke again, using the parable of the sower as my resource. The whole experience was as sweet as can be. We said our good-byes that night, late and pulled out at six the next morning. In that short time we had come to love the people so. We left mounds of things we had taken for them, plus Bibles, hymnals, Sunday School literature, and a huge tub of toys and candy. We hugged them, and promised to come again.

I told Bud I want to go back and stay for a month and help Matilda and Tila. He rolled his eyes. It is such a long ways. Wish we had a helicopter. I keep thinking of things I could take them that would be useful there. We went hoping to be a blessing to the little church and came away so blessed. We all agree, we can’t wait to go back. Now we shift gears and get ready for the end of school and sum-mer teams. We so appreciate your support, and just could not do this without your prayer.

The Indian Creek Association held their annual meeting on May 24th at the Carthage Christian Center. Along with their busi-ness the Association enjoyed a great pulled pork dinner. But the highlight of the evening was the presence of Aaron Wilburn, a noted songwriter, singer and co-median. Aaron blessed the folks at the meeting with his account of growing up in the State Line Free Will Baptist Church in Alabama. He also raised several questions we all have wondered about pref-aced with “Why?”

Aaron is a gifted song writer, having written hundres of gospel songs sung by all the major groups. His work includes “It’s Beginning to Rain,” “What A Beautiful Day for the Lord to Come Again,” and “Four Days Late.” He has worked exten-sively with the Gaithers through the years.

It was great to sit in God’s house and laugh at good, clean humor.

Antioch, TN—Barry Simpson, director of development for Free Will Baptist International Missions, recently announced the addition of Joe Wilson to the IM team. Joe, formerly a pastor in Lebanon, Missouri, began his assignment in Antioch in June 2009.

“As part of our 75th anniversary celebration in 2010,” said Simpson, “Joe will lead a major initiative with our denomination’s young people. He is taking on a 14-month assignment that concludes after the 2010 National Association in Okla-homa City. We are thrilled to have a creative leader of Joe’s caliber to champion this effort!”

James Forlines, general director of the Mission further explained, “We are immensely excited about this

project and believe it will impact our movement for years to come. However, we want to launch this initiative with our young people and are not reveal-ing all the details at this time. You will not want to miss the unveiling of this exciting plan at the National Youth Conference service on Tuesday night (July 21) in Cincinnati.”

Joe Wilson began his professional ministry in 1990 as an associate pastor at the Glenville FWB Church (Georgia). He also served as an associate minister in churches in Oklahoma and Tennes-see. Wilson ministered as senior pastor of the First FWB Church in Lebanon since 2003. The Wilson family will return to the Nashville area to take on this new challenge. “I am excited and almost overwhelmed,” Joe said, “by the opportunity God is opening before me to have such a major impact. There is much to do in little time. I hope people will pray with us for God to give this endeavor His favor.”

Hillsdale is now fi fty years old and on October 10-11, 2009 we will “Celebrate Good Times!”

As an alumnus or friend you may have memories of your time at Hillsdale, mine begin in 1970. As a seventeen year old I stepped on this campus and began developing relationships with students and staff that I have now enjoyed for over forty years. I am still in close contact with many of my classmates. I know it is because we are in the ministry together, but these relationships that began at Hillsdale are still precious. In fact, one of those classmates became my wife; so, I am thankful for our college every day.

I also enjoyed being with many of my heroes on campus. Men and women who taught me and helped build this school. I am indebted to this school for everything it has given to me and my family. In fact, this reunion will allow me to spend time with my sons, Craig and Cory, who are also alumni.

The reunion will be a time to remember, re-live and refl ect on our days at Hillsdale. It will be a time to “Celebrate Good Times!” I am asking that you put October 10-11, 2009 on your calendar and make plans to attend the fi fty-year alumni reunion at Hillsdale College. It will be fi lled with activities and fellowship. It is a two day celebration of alumni and friends of Hillsdale.

Continue to check the Hillsdale website – www.hc.edu, read the INSIGHT magazine, and your mail for additional information. We ask you to help us contact the alumni and friends of OBC/Hillsdale and encourage them to come. In the weeks and months that are ahead you will be receiving more information; just make plans now to attend!

Don’t forget that a donor has promised to match gifts Hillsdale raises this summer. That means a great income opportunity for the college and a good place for you to invest some of God’s blessing you have received.

You may send your gifts through our state offi ce or directly to the college. For more informa-tion, call President Tim Eaton at 1-405-912-9456 Give a gift that will last for eternity.

NASHVILLE, TN—More than 250 people gathered in Free Will Baptist Bible College’s Memorial Auditori-um on June 4 to share in The Celebration!, an evening to honor long-time employees Bert and Dianne Tip-pett for their 44-year ministry at FWBBC. For the fi rst time in school history, an event was streamed live from the college, with more than 500 people logging onto the FWBBC website.

President Matt Pinson said, “We were de-lighted that so many friends joined us to honor the Tippetts who have been Christian examples and men-tors for four decades. Bert and Dianne embody the biblical principles of faithfulness and sacrifi cial love. Their consistency as role models in service has made them the face of FWBBC to a generation of pastors, parents, and students.”

A 25-voice volunteer choir composed of individuals who sang or travelled with the Tippetts on choir tours and other music groups performed a special arrangement of “It Is Well With My Soul,” by Dr. James Stevens, chair of the Music Department.

The 90-minute program included remarks by colleagues, family members, and friends, followed by a reception in Cumberland Cafeteria. Participants spoke of the Tippetts as co-workers, parents, friends, Christian examples, and professionals.

Dr. Robert Picirilli, retired academic dean, said, “Bert and Dianne began to rise above the crowd even when they were students. Both of them offered up, on the altar of this ministry we call Free Will Bap-tist Bible College, the sweet-savor sacrifi ce of excel-lence. They exemplifi ed how to love God and submit to His bidding. They continue to set an example for all of us in their own personal lives and present, dif-fi cult circumstances.”

Alumni Association president Frank Owens commended the Tippetts for their faithfulness and announced that the alumni scholarship will now

be known as the Bert and Dianne Tippett Alumni Scholarship, in honor of their unparalleled service to the college.

Citing the Tippetts’ outstanding work since 1965, President Pinson presented them a plaque of appreciation. He later shared that FWBBC graduates Gary and Dottie Wright (who travelled from Califor-nia to attend) had made a $15,000 gift to the college in honor of the Tippetts.

The Tippetts spoke briefl y to attendees. “I’ve never felt more unworthy of anything in my life than I do tonight,” Bert said. Dianne expressed appreciation for the ongoing encouragement, cards, and emails as they continue to face Bert’s health is-sues.

The Tippetts serve FWBBC in the area of public relations. Bert is director of church relations; Dianne volunteers as mailing list coordinator.
