Traditionally, automation has been an essentialcomponent of any industrial enterprise, and isbecoming increasingly valuable in commercialapplications. Whether building a production line or a self-contained machine, the ability toautomate it efficiently has long been a key requirement. As controls have become moresophisticated, your edge in your industry hasrelied on partnering with an automation vendorwho can offer an essential combination: leadingedge controllers and dependable support. Nolonger can you afford to take the latest miraclecontroller and figure it out on your own. You need a partner who has the in-depth support and expertise to get your project done fast so you stay out in front.

Where can you find a partner who can offer theright systems combined with the level of supportyou need? Mitsubishi Electric Automation is thatpartner. We are part of one of the world’s largestand leading automation companies. You can beassured that we have the kind of products you are looking for, networking, motion control or PIDcontrollers, Mitsubishi can meet your needs withthe FX PLC range.

Quality With Assurance Selected Mitsubishi products comply to the following regulations. Please contact your local Mitsubishi office for more details.

Backed by One of the World’s Leadersin AutomationThe FX PLC is a product of MitsubishiElectric, one of the world’s foremost automation companies. Mitsubishi is a proven automation innovator with an impressive list of firsts. Among these were the world’s first “brick” style PLC, along withthe first nano PLC, which originated a newPLC industry. Since introducing our firstF-Series PLC in the early 1980s, Mitsubishihas supplied an installed base of close tothree million micro and nano PLC systemsworking day-in, day-out around the world. This makes us the world’s leading manufacturer of micro and nano PLCs.

Unwaving Commitment to Quality The FX PLC range is manufactured to ISO9000 standards, with a defect rate of less than 10 parts per million. Mitsubishi ElectricAutomation, Inc. covers the North Americanautomation marketplace, and also is certifiedto ISO 9000. In addition to ISP certification, the FX range meets all relevant UL, cUL, CEstandards, as well as a selection of nationalshipping approval bodies.

The FX0S: Mitsubishi’s Nano PLC Cost Effective for Relay Replacement,

Our FX0S PLC handles a broad range of applica-tions in the low I/O count part of the automationspectrum. The FX0S can be used simply to gainmajor savings in panel space and labor costswhen wiring panels, as opposed to hard-wiredrelay panels. It also offers you the flexibility ofchanging your control specification just by reprogramming, not rewiring. The FX0S is also an ideal controller for users who are familiar withthe advantages of a PLC, but whose applicationrequires less than 30 I/O. Some of the benefits the FX0S can offer you:

• Minimal learning curve before your application’s up and running when you use our Windows based GPP-WIN programmingsoftware. The powerful Step Ladder (STL) programming method (originated by Mitsubishi) makes ladder logic programming even easier by isolating your program into discrete operations in a sequence.

• The heart of a self-contained sequence control system with or without our optional user interfaces for a window on your machine’s operation (see p. 10 for our HMI line up).

• No matter whether you’re working with AC (100-240 V), DC (12 or 24 V), need transistors or relay switching (up to 2.5 A), or need to keep AC input capability, the FX0S line-up offers the right PLC type from its wide variety of power and I/O types.

• A fully integrated control package which frees you from the configuration of CPUs, power supplies and I/O systems. The FX0S also includes a 200 mA power supply, allowing you to remove the hidden cost of a separate sensor power supply in most cases.

• Duplicate an existing relay control scheme in the unit’s 1.6K (800 steps) memory, and still have enough room to add new system features only possible with the FX0S.

• Replace the functions of discrete control relays costing several times that of the PLC by using the FX0S’s comprehensive array of timers, counters and data memory.

• Implement closed loop control by tracking encoders or other pulse generating devices at up to 7kHz, while simultaneously generating a 2kHz pulse output and hardware interrupts.Few PLCs in this class can offer you this level of performance.

• Once the FX0S is installed, there is no need for maintenance, and no risk for program loss, due to its battery-free, non-volatile memory.

• If your needs are more sophisticated, the FX0S offers a very capable instruction set which boasts 32 bit math for process calculations, and a full complement of data handling instructions such as shift registers.

The FX0N: Options for Midrange Control

Our FX0N PLC builds on the successful foundationof the FX0S by offering all its features with additionalbenefits. This gives you a versatile controller thatcan be a powerful self-contained unit, but alsooffers the additional flexibility of expansion options. This makes it very easy for you to tailor the FX0Nto add the exact capabilities to match your applica-tion and budget. Sometimes this flexibility comesat the cost of increased complexity. We have workedhard to insure that all FX0N products are “plug andplay”; just connect them together and continue. Alloption modules are programmed in the same way, meaning that once you’ve mastered one, you knowthe rest. FX0N gives you these benefits:

• Minimal learning curve, as the FX0Ninstruction set builds on that of the FX0S.Additionally, the hardware of the FX0N is very similar to that of the FX0S. Our powerful GPP-WIN programming software also programs the FX0N, further reducing your training overhead.

• Greater programming flexibility makes writing your program easier, thanks to the enhanced instruction set and extended internal device ranges.

• No need to waste time taking your system off-line for program adjustments with “on the fly” on-line programming. Additionally, the FX0N offers a built-in analog potentiometer for real-time tweaking of program values.

• Capability to meet the needs of many applications; use up to 128 I/O composed of relays, transistors, DC and AC inputs.

• Use the FX0N as a local station in your distributed control scheme; connect to supervisory controllers using Profibus-DP, or opt for the high performance of Mitsubishi’s CC-Link network.

• Connect multiple machines together to collect process and performance data with your PC using the FX0N’s own master / slave network (can also be combined with FX0N PLCs).

• Connect serial devices to the FX0N to enable modern communications for telemetry, or a printer to output shift logs, etc.

• Use the FX0N to control your process with its optional analog I/O capabilities; add inputs for monitoring voltage, current and temperature.Analog outputs let you control the speed of a drive, the opening of a valve, and other common process tasks.

• Build a complete system by partnering the FX0N with one of our HMIs.

• Enough memory to handle control programs of high complexity with its 4K of program storage (2,000 steps).

• Tackle your tough pulse sensing problems with hardware interrupts and 5kHz high speed counters. Close the loop with the FX0N’s 2kHz pulse output.

• Eliminate cumbersome mechanical motion control schemes with the FX0N’s motion control options.

• Add recipe handling and data logging and storage features to your system with the FX0N’s extensive data memory (up to 500 words).

• No need for maintenance or fear of program loss thanks to the FX0N’s non-volatile EEPROM memory. Distribute program upgrades with removable memory cassettes.

PLC Programming &Documentation Software

Conventional panels require several layers ofwiring, termination, and labeling. The FX2NC useshigh-density cables that connect the PLC directlyto the field terminals by locking IDC connectors.Panel size can be decreased, and constructiontime / effort associated with wiring, terminating, and labeling are greatly reduced, allowing fasterand more cost-effective panel construction.Highlights of the new product line include:

• Effective – Reduces termination “layers”up to 60%.

• Easy – Programs from Windows using GPP-WIN in Ladder, List, and Functions Chart languages.

• Connected – Integrated with CC-Link, Profibus and other popular networks.

• Flexible – Wires in groups of 16 circuits or with custom-designed harnesses.

• Common – Uses industry standard third party terminal products.

• Capable – Handles applications up to 256 I/O.

• Powerful – FX2NC CPU duplicates all the capabilities of the FX2N itself.

• Tiny – 16 and 32 I/O CPUs are about the volume of a cassette tape box.

Please refer to the FX2N section for the perform-ance specification.
