1.1 INTRODUCTIONTheuserisresponsibleforinstallingandusingtheweldingequipmentaccordingtothemanufacturersin-structions.Ifelectromagneticdisturbancesaredetectedthenitshallberesponsibilityoftheuserofthewel-dingequipmenttoresolvethesituationwiththetechnicalassistanceofthemanufacturer.Insomecasesthisremedialactionmaybeassimpleasearthingtheweldingcircuit.Inothercasesitcouldinvolveconstructing

anelectromagneticscreenenclosingthepowersourceandtheworkcompletewithassociatedinputfilters.Inallcaseselectromagneticdisturbancesmustbereducedtothepointwheretheyarenolongertroubleso-me.Note:Theweldingcircuitmayormaynotbeearthedforsafetyreasons.Changingtheearthingarrangementsshouldonlybeauthorizedbyapersonwhoiscompetenttoasseswhetherthechangesincreasetheriskofinjury,e.g.byallowingparallelweldingcurrentreturnpathswhichmaydamagetheearthcircuitsofotherequipment.

1.2 ASSESSMENT OF POTENTIAL ELECTROMAGNETIC PROBLEMS 1.2.1 Assessment of area. Beforeinstallingweldingequipmenttheusershallmakeanassessmentofpoten-tialelectromagneticproblemsinthesurroundingarea.Thefollowingshallbetakenintoaccount:a)Othersupplycables,controlcables,signalingandtelephonecablesabove,belowandadjacenttothewel-dingequipment;b)Radioandtelevisiontransmittersandreceivers;c)Computerandothercontrolequipment;d)Safetycriticalequipment,e.g.guardingofindustrialequipment;e)Thehealthofthepeoplearound,e.g.theuseofpacemakersandhearingaids;f)Equipmentusedforcalibrationormeasurement;g)Theimmunityofotherequipmentintheenvironment.Theusershallensurethatotherequipmentbeingusedintheenvironmentiscompatible.Thismayrequireadditionalprotectionmeasures;h)Thetimeofthedaythatweldingorotheractivitiesaretobecarriedout.Thesizeofthesurroundingareatobeconsideredwilldependonthestructureofthebuildingandotheractivitiesthataretakingplace.Thesurroundingareamayextendbeyondtheboundariesofthepremises.

1.3 METHODS OF REDUCING EMISSIONS 1.3.1 Mains supply. Weldingequipmentshouldbeconnectedtothemainssupplyaccordingtothemanu-facturersrecommendations.Ifinterferenceoccurs,itmaybenecessarytotakeadditionalprecautionssuchasfilteringofthemainssupply.Considerationshouldbegiventoshieldingthesupplycableofpermanentlyinstalledweldingequipment,inmetallicconduitorequivalent.Shieldingshouldbeelectricallycontinuousthroughoutitslength.Theshieldingshouldbeconnectedtotheweldingpowersourcesothatgoodelectricalcontactismaintainedbetweentheconduitandtheweldingpowersourceenclosure.1.3.2 Maintenance of the welding equipment.Theweldingequipmentshouldberoutinelymaintainedac-cordingtothemanufacturersrecommendations.Allaccessandservicedoorsandcoversshouldbeclosedandproperlyfastenedwhentheweldingequipmentisinoperation.Theweldingequipmentshouldnotbemodifiedinanywayexceptforthosechangesandadjustmentcoveredinthemanufacturersinstructions.Inparticular,thesparkgapsofarcstrikingandstabilizingdevicesshouldbeadjustedandmaintainedaccordingtothemanufacturersrecommendations.1.3.3 Welding cables. Theweldingcablesshouldbekeptasshortaspossibleandshouldbepositionedclosetogether,runningatorclosetothefloorlevel.

2 --- INSTRUCTION FOR USE

2.1 USE INSTRUCTIONSForacorrectuseoftheapplianceitisimportanttofollowtheindicationshereunder.Donotexposetowaterdripping,toheatsources,avoidtheuseinanomaloussituations.Theinterventionsofextraordinarymaintenancearenotnecessary;inanycasetheselastmustbeexecutedbyauthorizedservicecenters.Everytamperingcausestheexpiryoftheguarantee.Duringthestorageandthetransport,thetemperaturemustbecomprisedbetween-25and+55centigradedegrees.

2.2 PRELIMINARIES BEFORE USEGeneratorsshouldonlybeusedbytrainedpersonnel.

Generatorshavebeenplannedfortheuseinparticularlyhardenvironmentswithtemperaturesfrom-20+40degreescentigradeandwithhumidity:max50%upto+40degreescentigrademax90%upto+20degreescentigrade1)Checkthatthemainsvoltageistheoneindicatedonthedataplate.2)Nevercoverthegeneratorwithobjects(towels,clothsecc.),asthiswilljeopardisetheproperventilationandthereforeitsoperation.3)Donotputtheunitinpositionslimitingitsairflow.4)Useinenvironmentswithtemperaturesbelow40degreescentigrades.5)Donotuseinpollutedenvironments,i.e.inpresenceofdusts,acidsand/orsalts,ferrousormetaldusts.6)Checkthattheavailablepowerofthenetworkisadequatetotheonerequiredfortheproperoperationofthemachine.7)ThedegreeofprotectionfromtheexternalagentsofthesegeneratorsisIP21/23,namelytheprotectionagainsttheverticalfallofwater-dropletsandprotectionagainstforeignbodies.Therefore,itisabsolutelynecessarythat:A)Noforeingbodiespassthroughtheloopholes.B)Itisnotplacedinmuddyordampareasordippedintoliquids.Thegeneratormustneverbeusedwithoutitscovering.Besidesbeingharmfultothesameunit,itiscer-tainlydangerousfortheoperator.

3 --- SAFETY

3.1 INTRODUCTION Arcweldingprocessesasdevelopedaftermanyyearsofweldingexperiencecanbeusedwithahighdegreeofsafetyprovidedthatpropercareandattentionisgiventocommonsensepracticesandtomanufacturer’srecommendedmethods.Itisthereforeimperativethatmanagementandsafetypersonnelmakesurethatallpersonnelwhowilloperateormaintaintheweldingequipmentbegiventheopportunitytoreadthisin-formation.

3.2 GENERAL PRECAUTIONS 3.2.1 Prevention of burns sparks,slag,hotmetalandradiationsproducedbytheweldingarccanbeseriouslydamagingtotheeyesandskin.Astheoperatororanyotherpersoncomesclosetotheweldingarea,thelevelofexposureincreasesrapidly.Properprotectiveclothingandequipmentmustbewornbytheoperatorandanyotherpersonsworkinginthevicinityofthearc.Gauntletglovesdesignedforuseinwelding,safetyshoes,andahatarerequired.Flameretardantclothingwhichcoversallexposedareasandcufflesstrouserstoprevententryofsparksandslagarerecommended.PropersafetygogglesorglasseswithsideshieldsoftheappropriateweldinglensshadeMUSTbeworntoprotecttheoperator’seyesfromradiantenergyandflyingsparksorhotmetal.3.2.2 Fire preventionSinceelectricweldingarcproduceshotmetal,sparks,andslag,precautionsmustbetakentopreventfireand/orexplosions.Makesurethatappropriatefireextinguishingequipmentisavailableintheimmediateweldingarea.Allcombustiblematerialsmustberemovedfromtheimmediateweldingareatoadistanceofatleast10meters(35feets)away.Neverarcweldemptycontainerswhichhaveheldtoxicorpotentiallyexplosivematerials.Thosecontainersmustbethoroughlycleanedpriortowelding.Neverarcweldinanatmospherewhichcontainsheavyconcentrationsofdust,flammablegas,orcombustibleliquidvapors(suchasgasoline).Aftereachweldingoperationmakesuretoletweldedmaterialtocooldownbeforetouchingitorputtingitincontactwithcombustibleorflammablematerials.3.2.3 Toxic FumesProperprecautionsmustbeexercisedtopreventtheexposureoftheoperatororothersinthesurroundingareatopossibletoxicfumeswhichmaybegeneratedduringelectricarewelding.Certainch-lorinatedsolventswilldecomposeunderultravioletradiationstoformphosgenegas.Caremustbeexercisedtoavoidtheuseofthesesolventsonmaterialsbeingweldwithelectricarcweldingequipment.Containersofthesesolventsandotherdegreasingagentsmustberemovedfromtheimmediateareanearthewelding

arc.Metalscoatedwithorcontainingsignificantamountsoflead,cadmium,zinc,mercury,andberylliumcanproduceharmfulconcentrationoftoxic fumeswhensubjecttoelectricarcweldingoperations.Adequatelocalexhaustventilationmustbeusedortheoperatormustbewearingspecialequipmenttoguaranteeasupplyoffreshairasarespiratororairsuppliedhelmet.Donotweldmetalscoatedwithmaterialswhichemittoxicfumesunless1)thecoatingisremovedpriortowelding,2)theareaisadequatelyventilated,or3)theoperatorissuppliedwithfresh-airbreathingequipment.3.2.4 Radiation Ultra-violet radiationscreatedby thearcmaybeharmful to theeyesandburn theskin;it is therefore imperative to wear protective clothing and helmet. Contact lenses should not be usedas the intense heat coming from the arc may cause them to stick to the cornea. The mask used du-ring welding should be equipped with grade DIN 10 safety lenses at least and they should immedia-telybereplacedwheneverdamagedorbroken.Sincethearcmaydamagetheeyes it isconsidereddan-gerous up to a distance of 15meters (50 feets) and it should never be locked at with the naked eye. 3.2.5 Electric shockAllelectricshocksarepotentiallyfatalandthereforelivewiresand/orpartsshouldneverbetouched.Insulationmustbekeptfromthepiecetobeweldedandfromthegroundbywearinginsulationglovesandclothing.Garmentssuchasgloves,shoes,hats,clothingsandbodymustbekeptdryatalltimesanditistobeavoidedworkinginhumidorwetareas.Nevertouchorholdthepiecetobeweldedbyhand;iftheslightestelectricshockisfelt,weldingshouldbestoppedimmediately;theunitisnottobeuseduntiltheproblemisidentifiedandsolvedbyqualifiedpersonnel.Frequentlyinspecttheprimarypowercablefordamageorcrackingofthecoverandreplaceimmediatelydamagedcable.Disconnectpowersupplycablefrommainsbeforereplacingcablesorbeforeremovingunitcovers.Alwaysreplaceanydamagedpartsoftheunit,withoriginalmaterial.Nevershortoutorinanyotherwaydefeatthesafetyinterlockdevicesandmakesurethatthepowersupplylineisequippedwithanefficientearthplug.Makesurethattheworktableisconnectedtoagoodearthground.Anymaintenanceistobecarriedoutbyqualifiedpersonnelonlythatistobeawareoftherisksduetodangerousvoltagesnecessaryfortheoperationoftheunit.3.2.6 Pacemaker Personwearingelectronic lifesupportdevices (suchaspacemaker)shouldconsultwiththeirdoctorbeforegoingneararcwelding,cutting,gougingorspotweldingoperationsinordertomakesurethatmagneticfieldsassociatedwithhighcurrentsdonotaffectedtheirdevices.

4 --- GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS AND PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

4.1 INTRODUCTIONTheweldingpowersuppliesdeliverconstantcurrentandaredesignedwithINVERTERtechnologyusingcom-ponentshavinghighperformanceandhighreliabilityandcanuseforstickelectrodeandTIGwelding.

4.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONThepowersupplyisbuiltonasinglemainboardwiththecontrollogicsonseparateinterchangeablehybridboardswhichgivethesystemaveryhighdegreeofreliabilityandsimplifymaintenanceandservice.Thepo-wermoduleusesanINVERTERworkingatafrequencyhigherthan80kHzwithaverylowdynamicresponsetime(500millisecond)resultinginanextremelysmoothweldingcharacteristicwhichgiveseasierstarting,morehomogeneousdropletsize,betterpenetrationandsmootherbeadappearance.

4.4 PROTECTION DEVICES 4.4.1 Overheating and main supply anomalies protection.Thepowersupplyisprotectedbyadeviceinstal-ledinsuchawayastoactincaseofoverheatingand/ormainsupplyanomalies.Whenthisdeviceintervenes,theunitstopssupplyingcurrentbutthecoolingfankeepsworking.TheactingofthedeviceisshownbytheLEDturningon.TheturningoffoftheLEDsignalstheresumedabilityoftheunittobeinoperatingconditions.

5 --- INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

5.1 UNPACKING AND SETUPUnpacktheunitandcarefullyinspectitforshippingdamages.Anyclaimsfordamageswhichmayhaveoccur-redintransitmustbefiledbythepurchaserwiththecarrierandinordernottolooseanyrighttofilesuchaclaimnocleanreceiptshouldbesignedbutamentionshouldbemadetoreservetherighttofileaclaimfortransitdamagesthatcanbediscoveredonlyafterunpacking.Allcommunicationsregardingthisequipmentmustindicatethemodelandserialnumberlocatedonthebackofthepowersupply.Afterunpackingplacetheunitinaproperlyventilated,possiblyundustedarea,makingsurethattheairflownearthecoolingslotsinnotobstructed.WARNING:itisextremelyimportantnottorestricttheairflowaroundtheunitsincethismaycausetheunittooverheatandcouldpossiblydamageinternalparts.Keepatleast200mmofunrestrictedspaceonallsi-desoftheunit.DonotPlaceanyfilterdeviceorcoverovertheairintakeslotsofthepowersupplyasthiswillvoidthewarranty.NOTE:iftheunitiscarriedovershouldermakesurethattheairintakeslotsontheframearenotobstructed.

5.2 STARTUP PROCEDUREThisunitmustbeinstalledbyskilledpersonnel.Allconnectionsmustconformtotheexistingrulesandinfullcompliancewithsafetyregulations(CENELECHD427).

5.3 GENERAL NOTESBeforeusingthispowersupply,carefullyreadtheCENELECstandardsHD407andHD433,checkinsulationofcables,electrodeholderclamp,socketsandplugsandmakesurethatthelengthandsectionofweldingcablesarecompatiblewithcurrentused:Upto5mt.cablesection16mm2min.From5mt.to20mt.cablesection25mm2min.From20mt.to30mt.cablesection35mm2min.

6 --- OPERATION

6.1 DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL PANEL Onthefrontpanelonefinds: 1.Currentadjustmentknob 2.Electrodeandearthclampcableconnectors 3.WeldingcurrentLEDindicator(okifon) 4.ACpowerinputfault (voltageoutsidethe+-10%of220Vrange)oroverheatingconditionLEDindicator(OKifoff).

6.2 COATED ELECTRODE WELDINGThispowersupplyissuitableforweldingwithalltypesofelectrodes.Forthecelluloseones(AWS6010),onlyspecificpowersupplycanbeused,seethetechnicaltables.Use electrode holder clamps in compliancewith the safety standards andwithout projecting tighteningscrews.Makesurethatthemainswitchonthebackison0positionorthatmainsupplyplugisnotinsertedinmainoutletthenconnectweldingcablesinaccordancewithpolarityindicationsgivenbytheelectrodemanufac-turer.Theweldingcircuitshouldnotbedeliberatelyplacedindirectorindirectcontactwithprotectionwireifnotonpiecetobewelded.Ifearthingisdeliberatelymadeontheworkpiecebymeansofprotectionwire,theconnectionmustbeasdirectaspossible,withthewirehavingasectionatleastequaltotheweldingcurrentreturnwireandconnectedtothepiecebeingworkedon,inthesameplaceasthereturnwire,usingthere-turnwireterminalorasecondearthterminalclosely.Allpossibleprecautionsmustbetakeninordertoavoidstraycurrents.Checkthattheinputsupplyvoltagematchesthevoltageindicatedonthepowersupplytechnicalspecificationtag.Connectmain supply cable:whenmountingaplugmake sure that its capacity is adequateand that theyellow-greenwireofthemainscableisconnectedtotheearthplugpin.ThecapacityofthemagnetothermicswitchorthefusesinthemainssupplylineshouldbehigherthanorequaltocurrentI1absorbedbytheunit.TheabsorbedcurrentI1isdeterminedbyreadingthetechnicalspecificationsontheunitascorrespondingtothemainsupplyvoltageU1.AnyextensioncordshouldhaveasectionadequatefortheabsorbedcurrentI1.Turnonthepowersupplywiththemainswitchonthebackoftheunit.WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK CAN KILL.Donottouchliveelectricparts.Donottouchweldoutputterminalswhenunitisenergized.Donottouchtorchorelectrodeandearthclampatthesametime.Setcurrentaccordingtotheelectrodediameter,weldingpositionandtypeofjointtobewelded.Whenfinishedweldingalwaysremembertoturnthemainswitchoffandtoremoveelectrodefromelectrodeholder.

And what if the machine is out of warranty?WhenamachineisreceivedbytheassistancecentreEPS,itisanalysedinordertoevaluateanaveragemaximumcost,thatisthennotifiedtothecustomer.Thisisacompletelyfreeestimateincasethefixingisthenauthorised.Whereasshouldthenotifiedcostnotmeetthecustomer’sinterest,theanalysiscarriedoutonthemachinewillbepaid(25.00€+VAT).Thereturnforitemsoutofwarrantyuponfixingpayment(orpaymentoftheanalysisonlyifthemachineisnotfixed)alwaysimpliesthatthetransportcostsareatconsignee’sexpense.
