Sunshine, good times and star studded nights. That's the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. And there's something for everyone - free outdoor concerts and movies at the 'Top of the Park," as well as ticketed performances by nationally and internationally known artists at the Power Center for the Performing Arts.
This three-week long annual performing arts festival
began in 1984 and has become a favorite Ann Arbor tradition.
Up to 65,000 people from a wide geographic area around Southeastern Michigan and surrounding states attend the
Festival year after year.
TO~e~:m:~~in:~!~kes place in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival transforms the plaza level of the Fletcher Street parking deck into the "Top of the Park." Each night ff't't' concerts are presented by a wide range of outstanding area performers. and /ru movies are shown on the Festival's enormous outdoor screen. Plus. foods from
around the world and ice cold beverages are sold. Located next door to the Power Center, the open-air Top
of the Park is the focus of Festival activity and the perfect meeting spot for Festival-goers before and after performances. Approximately 2,000 visitors of all ages gather each evening for a bite to eat, a cool drink or just to enjoy the summer night under the stars.
A complete schedule of Top of the Park free events will be announced in April and will be available at the Festival infor·
mation booth. Look to The Ann Arbor Newd for eaily Festival updates and concert information.
POWER CENTER for tbe PERFORMING ARTS
Each summer the Ann Arbor Summer Festival presents a
diverse series of performances at the Power Center for the
Performing Arts. Approximately 20 major performances take
place in the 1.380~seat Power Center including jazz, pop. blues,
folk and county music, as well as dance, comedy. theater and
children's programs.
Also featured is at least one unique program that brings
together extraordinary combinations of artists or cultural
traditions. Workshops, lectures, dance master classes and a
Youth Arts Program are also ofl'ered during the Festival.
Visual Arts Installation A combination of linear objects, as well as sound, will be
intertwined to form a work of art that will stimulate your mind and awaken your senses. Over the course of one week, Ann Arbor visual artist Larry Cressman and Miami composer Gustavo Matamoros will transform the lobby of the Power Center for the Performing Arts into an artistic creation that will span the upper and lower levels producing an interactive environment.
