In solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are struggling with the impact of Hurricane Harvey, St. Mary Catholic Schools is joining together with two drives to provide support. These are powerful opportunities to embrace our servant leadership theme and engage our families in living the gospel message of compassionate service and generosity to others. The Hurricane Harvey Relief Rally will take place next Friday, September 15 from 5:30-6:30 p.m., just before the home football game and SMCS Football Grade & Middle School Night. Entertainment and raffles will be featured, and non-perishable items and cash or checks made payable to Catholic Relief Services or The Red Cross will be collected. SMCS is also participating in the National Catholic Educational Association’s NCEA’s "Student to Student: A Catholic School Response to Hurricane Harvey" campaign that is asking every Catholic school family around the country to contribute at least $1 per child in their family to help Catholic schools impacted by the storm. Each SMCS campus will collect cash or checks made payable to NCEA, Student to Student Campaign now through September 21. We will be doing this collection at our Thursday Liturgy and Prayer Services this month.

The SMCMS FIRST program typically meets 3 times a week for a total of about 7 hours (4:00-6:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:30-11:00 on Saturday). The season runs September-November, but could continue if team keeps advancing. Currently we have 5 positions open on the FIRST team this season. Our first meeting was September 5th. Parent Involvement Program SMCMS requires 40 hours of parent involvement as part of having a child enrolled at SMCMS. Research
has proven that parent involvement and student achievement go hand in hand. Parents may choose to
pay the fee or give 40 hours of their time to SMCMS. Parents are billed $200 as parent involvement fee.
This fee may be worked off through volunteer activities ($5.00 per hour). Parents are responsible for
keeping track of the hours they work and hours are credited on a quarterly basis. Please provide all
dates and specific in the details. Service needs to benefit SMCMS, but only 10 hours can come from
Scrip or Z-Night. Some possibilities include:

events towards your middle school involvement hours. The purpose of the middle school involvement hours is to help increase parent involvement at the middle school level. However, you will still be expected to complete the necessary hours asked by the Booster Club. Parents can work as many middle school events as they want to count towards both their middle school parent involvement hours and Booster Club volunteer hours, even if your child in not in that sport.
