The Polish Scottish Heritage Festival aims to promote a greater awareness of Poland and Scotland's incredible shared heritage.

Some of the many events to watch out for include a concert by Louise Rutkowski and also Katy Carr and the Aviators, Alexander Kudajczyk’s Chopin performance, thought provoking readings by Martin Stepek and Jenny Robertson, a lecture by Billy Kay and the Heritage Exhibition.

The PSHF celebrates the way the two countries have connected throughout history and runs in Edinburgh from 18-29 June.

The festival will also celebrate our cultural overlap with an arts-and-crafts showcase, a Ceilidh with a Polish twist and delicious Polish Scottish fusion cuisine created especially for this

occasion! Louise Rutkowski will find playing at PSHF especially meaningful because she has a Polish father and Scottish mother. Louise's performance of "Diary of a Lost Girl" is at Summerhall (Anatomy Theatre) on 21 June at 6.30pm. Former This Mortal Coil and The Hope Blister vocalist Louise Rutkowski released “Diary of a Lost Girl”; her first solo album, on 21 February, on her own label, Jock Records, funded through direct-to-fan platform PledgeMusic. http://polishscottishheritage.co.uk https://twitter.com/PolScotHeritage www.facebook.com/polishscottishheritage

Wickerman Unveils their 2014 'goNORTH Festival Tour' Line Up

Dundrennan, Dumfries and Galloway : 25-26 July : www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk

The line up on Friday 25 July is topped by Edinburgh based indie folk act Broken Records. The Edinburgh based six-piece use their different musical backgrounds and a wide variety of instrumentation to compliment the eclectic sound they create. They will be joined by Glaswegian alternative rock band United Fruit who fuse noisy fast paced punk with catchy melodies and crunching riffs and Vladimir, a thrashing four-piece rock band, who have been described as ‘the noisiest band in Dundee’.

Other Friday line-up additions include alt-rock four piece Copper Lungs, atmospheric dream-pop band Prehistoric Friends, psychedelic quartet The Moon Kids, Dundee’s Our Future Glory, garage punk trio Halfrican, alt folk rock band Dante and Glasgow four-piece Felix Champion.

Saturday marks the return to Wickerman for ferocious electronic trio Roman Nose to bring the curtain down on the stage. The band, who perform fully masked, have rapidly built a reputation as one of the most exciting new live prospects in Scotland. Ella The Bird is the creative guise of Siobhan Wilson, whose performance at this year’s goNORTH left the audience spellbound. Inverness alt-rock quintet Schnarff Schnarff combine the best elements of 90s melodic rock and 00s indie disco and recently released their debut 5-track EP to much acclaim. They will

be joined by all girl group TeenCanteen who describe their music as cherry-cola kissed, sticky-harmony indie-pop.

Making the journey from Sweden to Scotland for Saturday are minimalistic rock duo, Pale Honey whose kicked back music style comes with a clear and intense vibe. We Came From Wolves from Perth are four like mind individuals who take ideas and inspiration from past projects and experiences to create melodic, emotive jaggy rock.

Saturday’s line up is further bolstered by singer and songwriter Angus Munro whose performances are influenced by Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright and The Divine Comedy, six-piece alternative rock band, Adopted As Holograph, who play a mixture of continental jazz and Balkan music, Scary People, a Dundee five-piece who produce energy laden alternative rock and

Culann who are in their element playing live, with huge tunes that create those ‘hairs on the back of your neck’ moments.

“We are really looking forward to returning to the Wickerman this summer”, said goNORTH Project Manager, Alex Smith. “The festival provides a fantastic platform for showcasing a wide range of emerging talent and fully embraces the diversity of the acts that play in the goNORTH Festival Tour Tent. It is very exciting to be included in one of the most prestigious music festivals in Scotland”.

Wickerman is one of the UK’s best-loved independent music festivals and is now entering its 13th consecutive year. With ten stages featuring an eclectic and exciting mix of leading artists, alternative acts and up-and-coming talent, the two day summer party caters for all musical tastes.

Wickerman is one of the friendliest festivals in Scotland and with hundreds of music-loving families in attendance each year, there’s a host of cool kids entertainment and activities on offer. The site is a wonderland for adults and children alike with a cinema, fun fair, circus entertainment, grass sledging, mountain biking and array of arts and craft activities scattered throughout its fields. High quality yurts, tipis and cloud houses and spacious campsites complete the magical festival experience. Every year the festival stages an unforgettable finale, as thousands of fans flock to watch a towering 40ft Wickerman be spectacularly set alight. www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk www.gonorthfestival.co.uk https://twitter.com/goNORTHFEST www.facebook.com/gonorthinverness

With only weeks to go until the first Wickerman campers arrive at the festival gates, Scotland’s hottest independent music and arts event has revealed its eagerly anticipated goNORTH Festival Tour Tent line up. Now in its fourth year, the goNORTH tent presents some of the most exciting new talent to have emerged from the Scottish and international music scenes, with acts selected following submissions and performances earlier in the month at the goNORTH Festival in Inverness.

‘We are delighted to be taking the goNORTH Festival Tour back to Wickerman this year’, said goNORTH Festival Director, Amanda Millen. ‘With two stages dedicated to emerging artists, Wickerman continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting new music. As one of our original partners, the stage attracts a great audience and and we are excited to be returning to one of Scotland’s best festivals with such a diverse selection of talent’.

Full Line-Up Announced For Glasgow Americana Festival

Glasgow : 1-5 October : www.glasgowamericana.com

Oklahoma/Texas songwriter, Jimmy LaFave and his band with their brand of 'red dirt' music get things under way for his first Scottish date in 15 years. He effortlessly blends country, blues, folk, and early rock and roll in his own compositions or choice of covers. He has recorded around 15 albums – the last with new material was 2012’s “Depending On the Distance.” Award-winning Canadian blues guitarist and singer songwriter, Matt Anderson, who plays around 200 live, intimate and high-energy gigs a year, appears at The Admiral Bar on Thursday, 2 October. Specialising mostly in an earthy blend of blue-collar folk, electric

blues, and roots rock, his eighth and latest album, “Weightless” also boldly branches off in the direction of R&B, reggae and rockabilly. The first lady of Louisiana, Mary Gauthier – she headlined the first ever Festival back in 2007 – stars at St Andrews in the Square on Friday, 3 October. The hugely popular and gloriously talented singer/songwriter has a new album, “Trouble and Love,” to bring, featuring personal tales that are never less than moving and certain to give fans, as she would say, a “bruising” time. There’s a matinee date with Texas-based singer/songwriter, Carrie Elkin at The Glad Café on Saturday, 4 October. Carrie, whose new album with Danny Schmidt, “For Keeps” is out now, appeared as part of the Glasgow Americana 2012 show, “Austin Song Writers In The Round.” Many liken her to Nanci Griffith, Iris DeMent and Patty Griffin. The same venue hosts an evening show that day with hotly-tipped singer/songwriter Adam Holmes and his band The Embers. Adam’s debut album, “Heirs And Graces” was nominated for Scottish Album of the

Year this year. He’s winning many admirers with his cultured mix of traditional and contemporary folk music from both sides of the Atlantic, gently eased on to his own brand of Americana. On the final day, The Hazy Recollections are teaming up with the Glasgow Americana Festival once again with a matinee show at the CCA offering an intriguing mix of artistes. And bringing the curtain down on the Festival is Sturgill Simpson and his band. Nashville-based Sturgill – tipped by many to be “the biggest real country star in waiting” – impressed many with this recent appearance on Jools Holland’s BBC2 show while his latest album, “Metamodern Sounds In Country Music” was named an Uncut

Magazine Americana Album of the month. Glasgow Americana director, Kevin Morris said: “The festival is a really top-class line-up with acts set to please lots of music fans. It’s pleasing that these artistes think so highly of Glasgow Americana and are so keen to come to the city, either for the first time or for a repeat visit.” Glasgow Americana is organised by The Fallen Angels Club who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year with acts playing Glasgow throughout 2014 including Eliza Gilkyson, Sam Baker, Aoife O'Donovan, Thea Gilmore, Holly Williams plus loads more! www.fallenangelsclub.com

The Scottish Borders is set to party @ Jedburgh's 'Riverside Rock' Festival

Jedburgh : 21 June : www.riversiderock.co.uk

There's only days to go until a rare beast in the Scottish Borders takes place - a music festival! Congratulations have to go to the organisers of the inaugural 'Riverside Rock' for pulling it all together, and we look forward to this much needed festival for the area growing over the coming years. Between the headliners 'Big Country' and with very popular local band Scocha, returning to their home patch straight from a German festival appearance, the stage is set to be bouncing. The line-up also includes The Joe Mangels, The Stevie T Band and Dark Horse.

'Riverside Rock' runs from 2pm on Saturday 21 June with ticket sales are soaring in the build-up but you may still be lucky either on the website above or call 0333 666 3366 - priced at £22.50 each.

The day promises full family entertainment at Jed-Forest RFC's Riverside Park in association with Cash for Kids, with Riverside Rock set to be a musical extravaganza with something for everyone young and old. There will be children's entertainment of all kinds combined with rock and traditional Bands from across the Borders and further afield. Bring along a picnic (alcohol not permitted) and come and support this local event and help raise cash for their chosen charity “Cash For Kids” and other sports organisations around the Scottish

Borders. There will be parking and a shuttle bus services available as well as fast-food catering outlets and bars.

Organising committee member Allan Fraser said: “Our online ticketing system lets us see where people have placed their order from and we’ve had people buying tickets from all over the UK – London, Cornwall, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Inverness. Anyone who hasn’t got a ticket yet should get in quick or they’ll be left disappointed.”

“We are headed to full capacity which is great,” Allan continued, right from the start, the guys behind Riverside Rock said they wanted the festival to be something for all the Borders to enjoy and it looks like its appeal has spread much further."

With its idyllic location and carefully curated line-up, Doune the Rabbit Hole offers an array of high-quality artists from around the world. Joining the bill this year are Jeffrey Lewis, Josephine Foster, Peatbog Faeries, Bass Clef, Acid Mother’s Temple, Balkanarama and the elusive Secret Chiefs 3 (a project by former members of Faith No More and Mr Bungle) and many more.

In addition to those already announced, the festival has added the following acts to the bill: The Amphetameanies, The Birthday Suit, Hector Bizerk, Blochestra, Errors, RM Hubbert, Kakatsitsi Drummers & Rebecca Vasmant, PAWS, Tom Snowball, Paddy Steer, The Telescopes, Trembling Bells, Samba Ya Bamba, Zea.

The festival is run by volunteers who are committed to making the weekend the most memorable of the summer.

Festivalgoers can also help run the event and are particularly encouraged to join in with the workshops over the weekend, connecting with musicians and other artists to learn about their work.

Doune the Rabbit Hole artistic director Jamie Murray said: “You’d be surprised how many people have an old caravan kicking about that they don’t know what to do with. “If they aren’t using it and would like a free festival ticket or two then we’d be very happy to

do a trade. We need people’s help to make this the best event we possibly can, so we thought: let’s just put it online and see. Likewise, there are loads of things that we could use for the weekend to help make the site look good and we’re very happy to offer festival tickets to repay people’s contributions. We’ve already been offered spades, chairs, yurts and even a giant ex-army parachute but more stuff that we can use would be really helpful. It just seems like a nice, efficient and simple way of operating, which builds a great community feel to the event.”

Doune the Rabbit Hole is a small-scale, family-friendly music and arts festival held over the August bank holiday weekend on the beautiful Cardross Estate. This year it is using the age-old practice of bartering for useful items, in exchange for festival tickets. Organisers need a caravan, tents, yurts, generators, lights, furniture and decorations. The festival website now includes a 'Barter' page, allowing anyone to either trade or lend something in return for tickets ..... www.dounetherabbithole.co.uk/barter

New CalMac Stage For Tiree Music Festival

Tiree : 18-20 July : www.tireemusicfestival.co.uk

A lucky few managed to snap up in record time a release of an extra 100 tickets for TMF recently to celebrate the announcement of the Calmac Live Lounge, a new acoustic stage for the 2014 festival. Sponsored by award-winning ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac), the stage will host acoustic performances from Scotland’s most established songwriters including Dougie McLean and Roddy Woomble. Tickets for Scotland’s Best Small Festival sold out long before the stellar line-up, which includes Eddi Reader, Julie Fowlis, Sharon Shannon Big Band, Peatbog Faeries and Roddy Woomble & Band, was even announced. This was the very last opportunity for fans to secure their place at the festival which keeps going from strength to strength. Having won four major event awards in 2013 and added an extra day for 2014, the new stage is the latest development for TMF. As well as performances from established acts, Calmac Live Lounge will host acoustic sets from up and coming singer- songwriters, such Alec Dalglish, Sorren MacLean and Zoe Bestel. The stage will also put on interactive music workshops and Ulpan Gaelic lessons for the whole family to get involved in. This year’s festival will feature three stages Cairn Capital Main Stage, Tiree Trust Tent and Stage, which will sit alongside the Calmac Live Lounge.

Says festival Director Daniel Gillespie: “Festival goers are in for a real treat with the Calmac Live Lounge, as the stripped down performances set against the beautiful backdrop of Tiree is guaranteed to offer an unrivalled atmosphere and expect some impromptu collaborations between acts as well. “We would like to thank CalMac, Cairn Capital and Tiree Trust for their support and are delighted to offer another 100 fans the chance to be at TMF. 2014 really is shaping up to be our best festival ever and we still have more to announce including our TMF Unsigned shortlist and then winner.” Cathy Craig, Commercial Director at CalMac, said: “The Tiree Music Festival is one of the biggest events in our area. CalMac plays a huge part in getting both festival goers and the musicians themselves to this highly popular event and this year we decided to go one step further and raise our profile at the festival by sponsoring this stage at which the winner of our CalMac Culture singer/songwriter competition will perform.” www.tireemusicfestival.co.uk www.facebook.com/Tiree-Music-Festival https://twitter.com/TireeMusicFest

ADVERTISE IN OUR 3 WEEKLY DIGITAL

The 2014 programme highlights the wealth of music, dance and theatre that is currently being made and produced in Scotland. Now in its 6th year, the programme has grown from strength to strength with a total of 29 companies and artists taking part this year including MADE IN SCOTLAND regulars, David Leddy, Scottish Dance Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Caroline Bowditch, Barrowland Ballet, The Black Diamond Express and Amy Duncan and a host of new faces including Fiona Rutherford, Tromolo Productions, Curious Seed, Daniel’s Beard, Simon Thacker and many more.

The programme provides an opportunity for national and international promoters to see the work and encourages artistic collaborations to be forged - an example of which is Scottish Dance Theatre’s Miann, choreographed by Fleur Darkin with music by Glasgow 4-piece The One Ensemble.

Since its inception in 2009 until 2013, MADE IN SCOTLAND has funded 69 Scottish companies to showcase their work as well as enabling them to take up national and international touring opportunities. Onward touring funding has enabled companies to tour across five continents, visiting over 15 countries, including Germany, USA, Australia, New Zealand, France, Ireland, Canada, Japan, China, Denmark, The Netherlands and more.

Playwrights’ Studio Scotland returns with TalkFest 2014 - a full programme of workshops and discussions about the creativity behind this year’s Made in Scotland showcase and the wider Edinburgh Festivals. The sessions are led by

some of our leading playwrights and theatre-makers including Nicola McCartney, Oliver Emanuel and Linda McLean.

Launching the Made in Scotland programme, Culture Secretary, Fiona Hyslop said: “Made in Scotland’s strong reach and appeal has been proven by the international success of many of the acts showcased over the last five years. This year's programme builds on this success and promises to deliver even more exciting, memorable and moving performances. Through the Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund, the Scottish Government is supporting the festivals to grow their economic contribution and giving Scottish performers the opportunity to promote our country’s rich culture, heritage and distinct identity on a world stage.” She added: “Made in Scotland 2014 is an excellent showcase for the strength of work created here. I urge all this year's festival-goers to catch these wonderful performances as part of their Fringe experience.“

Kath M Mainland, Chief Executive, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society said: “The Made in Scotland showcase is a crucial platform for Scottish artists at the Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival and one of the most significant arts markets in the world. Made in Scotland is a real launch pad for Scottish companies at The Fringe. It allows them direct access to influential contacts in the media and arts industry as well as the opportunity to present their work alongside many international counterparts. Made In Scotland goes a long way to raise the profile of these Scottish artists by allowing them to take full advantage of the unparalleled opportunity to have their work seen by promoters and presenters from around the world. She added: “I’m delighted that over its six year history the Made In Scotland showcase has supported and nurtured so much Scottish talent at The Fringe and look forward to it continuing for years to come.”

Laura Mackenzie Stuart, Portfolio Manager for Theatre and

International, Creative Scotland said: “Edinburgh and its cultural feast of August festivals attracts visitors and artists from across the globe. The Made in Scotland showcase is a welcome digestible selection of the best creative talent from Scotland across the Fringe, the world's largest arts festival.” She added: “The Made in Scotland initiative enables artists to increase their profile and have their work - created and produced in Scotland - seen across the globe. The artistic, reputational and economic benefits of the Made in Scotland initiative will not only be felt by those participating in this year’s showcase but will also be shared across the creative community of Scotland.”

Jon Morgan, Director, Federation of Scottish Theatre said: “Now in its sixth year, the Made in Scotland showcase boasts not only an
