OutputstatementAssociationsandDislocationsisaseriesofprojectsbroadlyexploringtheperceptualmechanismsandeffectsofpresentingsoundalongsideimagesorobjects,andtheuseofmulti-personinterfacestoencourageacollaborativesonicexperience.Ofinterestaretheemergingrelationshipsembodiedintheartworks(sonic/physical/visual,person/person,person/work).Theworksaddressseveralresearchconcernsrelatedtomultisensoryartandinteraction:

1. Theuseofsoundtoemphasizeorcontradictqualitiesofanobject/imageandtheperceptualmechanismsbywhichthishappens.2. Relationshipsbetweenhearingandothersenses.3. Eco’sconceptofthe‘openwork’appliedtoaudiovisualart;exploringsemanticgapsbetweenvisualandsonicmedia.4. Designingtheaffordancesofmulti-personinterfacestofacilitatenewmusicalexperiences.5. Creatinginterfacesthatappealtovisitorsofallages,workirrespectiveofmusicalbackgroundandwhichrewardexploration.6. Encouragingcollaborativeplayandthedevelopmentofcollaborativestrategiesamongparticipants.7. Bringingcollaborativemultisensoryarttoalargenon-specialistaudiencethroughexhibitioninpublicspacesandmuseums.

Researchconcernsareaddressedbyexhibitingphysicalartefactswhicharedesignedtocreateinsightsintooneormoreoftheresearchthemes.ExamplesarevisitorsintuitivelytouchingthespheresofPod/Colonyuponenteringthework(2,5,7)orhuggingthespherestofeelthevibrations(2);orvisitorstoPeaceMusicProjectcomposingwithstrangers(4,5,6,7).InAthensIprovidedsoundsfor4photographers,exploring(1,3).Papersexploringtheseinsightsarepresentedacademically.Thisportfoliohasfoundabroadaudienceandisbecomingknowninternationally.PodispermanentlyinstalledinScienceMuseumLondonwithvisitornumbers(mainlyschoolchildren)of500,000/year.Colonyattracted30,000visitorsonitslast3outingsandhasinternationalbookingsfor2019.Anewproject,DemocraticElectronicMusic,willpotentiallytourUKfestivalsin2019.
