Last year IFF advertised in a wider ran-

ge of magazines, but this year we ha-

ve had a total rethink and have shif-

ted our fashion promotion to a digital video

and social media platform. The mainly digital

push named #furnow, which launches in early

October includes social media, blogger ou-

treach, video, mobile and gifs designed with

a view to go viral. The campaign also inclu-

des print media. The campaign will have an

emphasis on a young, dynamic, quirky image

of fur which is designed to change people’s

and particularly journalists’ perceptions of

what fur is all about. It is built around ima-

ges of men and women wearing beautiful,

contemporary fur items in eye- catching,

sometimes surprising ways, all designed for

sharing online. Fur is a key trend in the

2014-15 autumn/winter collections and the

campaign channels this ‘right for now’ zeit-

geist. It will be the IFF’s most ambitious cam-

paign to date and it is done in partnership

with Fur Europe and other IFF regions.

The concept is simple – fur is everywhere,

fur is now – and the campaign will show fur

in lots of different everyday scenarios, whil-

st still keeping in mind where fur comes

from. The campaign's look is young, fresh

and eye-catching and will produce great vi-

deos and still images for print publication.

For the shoot, IFF collaborated with stylist

Georgia Pendlebury, who sourced some

major brands for the shoot including Jean

Paul Gaultier, GiambattistaValli, Kenzo, Dries

Van Noten, Elie Saab, Matthew Williamson

and Manish Arora.

IFF also collaborated with two major blog-

gers: Bryanboy and Gala Gonzalez. They both

helped greatly with the creativity of the cam-

paign, inputting their ideas and having much

fun trying on the furs. Both posted a vast

amount onto social media and got people

talking around the #FURNOW.

The videos are now in the editing stage and

will be launched alongside the print adverti-

sing in October.

On June 9-16, the IFF Fur Futures Asia Region’s Roadshow

took place with huge success. More than 240 young peo-

ple participated in the workshops across the Asia Re-

gion, with strong support from IFF Member Associations in Hong

Kong, Korea, Japan and Mainland China, and the IFF Office in Beijing.

The Roadshow consisted of four delegates. Izzet Ers, Creative Di-

rector of Hockley, who introduced his collection, showed how to

select different combinations of furs and colours and discussed a

variety of techniques. Christian Helmer, a designer from Denmark,

spoke about how fur is used around the world, how it is manufac-

tured and how it is made into products. Gorana Stojanovic, Direc-

tor of Global Communications at IFF introduced the IFF’s Fur Fu-

tures program, which supports the next generation of people work-

ing with fur. She promoted the special attributes of the program

such as the ability for participants to apply for a one-year €1000scholarship. Kelly Xu, Director of IFF’s Asia Region was the fourth

delegate and she spoke about the possibilities within the Asia branch

of Fur Futures.

The workshops attracted over 200 new members to Fur Futures

and generated approximately 40 online news articles, a number of

posts on blogs and social media forums, and print media articles.

This year IFF Members took another step to-

wards increasing commitment to high stan-

dards in the fur industry. A big thank you to

every single IFF member who has now signed the

Code of Practice, which makes commitments on stan-

dards in welfare, environment, employment, legal trade

and reaffirms our strong commitment to supporting

the CITES regulations on endangered species.

It is important that the fur sector shows to the out-

side world its commitment on issues such as welfare,

employment and the environment.The Code is the

first step in this process and IFF will be looking to

strengthen it in the years ahead.

Code of Practice

As government reforms in China take place,

the importance of good relations with se-

nior political figures and the customs and

trade bodies in China continues. Through out office

and the support of our Members, we have been able

to hold a series of meetings with officials to discuss

simplifying tax and tariff arrangements to benefit all

parties.

IFF’s CEO Mark Oaten held a third constructive meet-

ing with Chinese customs officials to discuss future

tariff levels and ways to simplify price calculations of

goods entering China. The meeting was constructive

and with the support of our Asia President Madam

Deng, we were also able to raise concerns over

changes to a number of tariffs on fur items that will

have particular impact on Hong Kong businesses trad-

ing with China, known as CMT.

Workshops in member countries will be

high on Fur Europe’s agenda this fall.

Since CEO Martina Bianchini took of-

fice in April, workshops with participants from na-

tional trade and producer associations held together

by Fur Europe and IFF have taken place in Poland,

Romania and Spain, and this fall will see this extended

to countries like Italy, France, Latvia, Germany and

Greece. The scope of the workshops is to encourage

a strengthened cooperation between traders and

producers, and secure a more homogenous fur in-

dustry across European borders.

The many countries and diverse cultures in Europe

have resulted in a rather fragmented fur industry,

which is a challenge for the European region.“There

are great advantages to be achieved with a more unit-

ed Fur value chain and the national workshops in-

form this idea. Together, we are building a roadmap

for Fur Europe to create shared value and strength-

en our voice towards policy makers, alliance partners

and society at large. I have no doubt that a stronger

European organisation will benefit the industry as a

whole,” says Martina Bianchini.

On June 9-16th, with strong support from

our member associations in Hong Kong,

Korea, Japan, IFF Office in Beijing and

members in Mainland China, the IFF Fur Futures Asia

Region’s Asia Roadshow was completed with a huge

success. Asia Remix’s top 10 finalists have been se-

lected; the final event will be held on September 24th,

2014 in Beijing China. Ms. Kelly Xu, Asia Region Di-

rector is helping Korea Fur Federation to organize

its first national Fur Design Competition. Ms. Shar-

lene Zhu is now the Communication Director &

Membership Coordinator for IFF Office in Beijing.

On July 2, IFF Eurasia hosted the second

International Forum: "Prospects for the

development and the fur trade in goods

between the IFF regions of Eurasia and Asia” in Al-

maty, Kazakhstan. The Forum was attended by the

heads of national fur associations and unions from

both regions, representatives of state and public

authorities, representatives of the fur business and

other organizations, and had active participation

from the media.

Issues were raised about the prospects

of the fur trade and other ways of co-

operation between IFF Asia and Eura-

sia, but also about preventing Customs

Union countries and Ukraine from low

quality fur goods smuggling and coun-

terfeit. It was noted that governments

of both regions introduced a number

of actions to prevent the market from

low-quality and smuggled fur goods.

On July 3, IFF Eurasia held their Board meeting.

The Board discussed an implementation of a work

plan for 2014 and other organizational issues. Sergey

Stolbov was appointed as a Chairman of the re-

gion.

Finally, an international conference regarding is-

sues of hunting furbearing animals was held on July

24, in Russia, Krasnoyarsk. The conference was at-

tended by hunters and suppliers from Russian re-

gions, scientists and delegates from Canada and

Turkey. Issues were raised about improving the leg-

islation on the regulation of the fur trade, the Agree-

ment on International Humane Trapping Standards

(AIHTS) between the European Union, Canada

and the Russian Federation, the effectiveness of

the current system of sable usage in Russia and

control over the circulation of products from it,

amongst other issues.

Congratulations to IFF’s Americas CEO Rob

Cahill on his new appointment as Senior

Vice President of International Marketing

at NAFA. It is great news that Rob is staying in the

fur family after so many years of providing support in

the Americas via his FIC position and, more recently,

as CEO of the IFF Americas region.

Mike Mengar remains IFF Americas Region Chairman

while Shirley D’Penha will take over as the interim

CEO.

Bourtzos takes part in hundreds fur

auctions and international fur fairs,

proposing new collections of fur

continues to expand with shops in

Greece, Russia and recently in

Dubai, with long term clients all

over the world. The new company

buildings in Kastoria have recently

been completed, a total of 4.200

s.m. where a new showroom, up

Èntrato nella rosa dei finalisti di Remix

2014 - il contest organizzato da Interna-

tional Fur Federation in collaborazione

con Mifur e Aip - il giapponese Shohei Ohashi,

studente dell’ultimo anno dell’Osaka Bunka Fa-

shion College, ha vinto il Gold Award aggiudi-

candosi, oltre al premio in denaro, l’opportunità

di vivere un internship presso la fashion house di

Tommaso Aquilano e Roberto Rimondi.

Dal 2003 la competizione internazionale dedica-

ta ai futuri talenti del fashion design è il palco-

scenico tra i più prestigiosi e ambiti per i giovani

stilisti che approcciano il mondo della moda in-

terpretando la pelliccia. La giuria ha scelto i tre

look dal gusto optical di Ohashi tra i 36 presen-

tati dai 12 designer provenienti dalle delegazioni

di tutto il mondo. Convincente la scelta di valo-

rizzare, lavorando sui contrasti di materiali e nuan-

ce, gli effetti materici delle differenti pelli crean-

do moduli ritmici in visone, finnraccoon e capra.

Altynai Osmoeva, originaria del Kyrgyzstan in

Asia Centrale, ma diplomata del Central Saint

Martins College of Art and Design di Londra, si è

aggiudicata il Remix Silver Prize per i suoi capi

confortevoli e avant-garde, tra gusto artigianale

e influenze etniche. Bronze Award per la desi-

gner cinese Mijia Zhang della Parsons - New

School for Design di New York: premiato il suo

Short-listed finalist of Remix 2014 – the contest organized by

the International Fur Federation in collaboration with Mifur and

Aip – the Japanese Shohei Ohashi, final year student of the Os-

aka Bunka Fashion College, won the Gold Award and the chance to live

an internship at the fashion house of Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto

Rimondi, in addition to the prize money.

Since 2003, the international competition dedicated to the future tal-

ents of fashion design is one of the most prestigious and coveted start-

ing point for young designers who approach the world of fashion by in-

terpreting fur. The jury chose Ohashi’s three looks featuring an optical-

taste, among 36 projects submitted by 12 designers belonging to dele-

gations from all over the world. To the jury, the choice of valorizing the

material effects of different leathers by working on contrasts of tex-

tures and shades in order to

create rhythmic patterns in

mink, goat and Finn raccoon

sounded really convincing. Al-

tynai Osmoeva, hailing from

The story of Erminio Toesca is really unique: it began when he was still a boy who started working in his father’s workshop and specialized in repairing bikes. Soon, he began to deal with motorcycles too. World War II didn’t hold back his determination and Toesca decided to place motorcycles and bikes of his workshop at disposal of the Italian Resistance. Moreover, he had a sudden idea right during that period: he asked to his wife Angiolina to sew a small

secret pocket inside the jackets, something pretty much invisible and similar to a patch, that could be used as a hiding place for the keys of the motorcycle if the rebels were searched by the enemy. That’s how the Secret Jacket was born: it marked the beginning of the production of clothes, then sold in the workshop, and today it’s the iconic garment of this brand.Over the years, together with garments expressly dedicated to the world of motorcycling, the brand has created a true total look specifically designed for the modern man that speeds through the city on his scooter. CHIC reveals its plansfor the next edition in 2015CHIC International Fashion Fair is the largest and most influential trade

show in Asia thanks to its 22 years of experience and the Chinese

meeting point in the fashion sector. It has also proved to be a platform

for international fashion brands, providing a bridge into the Chinese

consumer market thanks not only to the fair, but also to other activities,

such as seminars, fashion summits and workshops: every year more

than 400 brands coming from over 20 countries decide to take

advantage of this event. Besides, it has always been able to understand

early the trend of the industry and to provide guidance in the most

critical moments.

For the next editions, the team of CHIC has proposed some changes in

order to better respond to the needs of the market and of the individual

brands. First of all, the organizing team has started to arrange a second

edition of the fair in the second half of the year: several international

brands have been asking this for quite some time and now CHIC

seems ready to answer to their demands, planning an exceptional

event. Secondly, China International Fashion Fair will move from Beijing

to Shanghai, taking place in a new location, the National Convention

and Exhibition Center, in March 2015 (18-20).

CHIC 2015 will be divided into two large sections: “Life Style World”

(further sub-divided into eight sub-sections: Overseas Pavilions, Men’s

Wear, Casual & Sports, Women’s Wear, Kid’s Wear, Leather/Fur &

Down Wear, Fashion Accessories, Fashion Related Resources) and

“Special Exhibition Areas”. Four brand-new areas have been designed:

Influential Chinese fashion brands (the gathering place where Chinese

brands can exhibit their new collections), Designers’ Gallery (the area

for both domestic and foreign fashion designers), Future Link (a

communication space for all fashion professionals) and Sourcing

Fashion (a section in which will be presented new processing

technologies and design and research abilities). We must not forget to

mention CHIC – Young Blood, an independent trade show dedicated to

fashion for young generations that, for the first time, will be integrated

as “Show in a Show”.

Hong Kong fur industry lived a magic moment during the latest edition of the International Fur & Fashion Fair that took place last February 2014. During

the four-day fair, the creations of 280 exhibitors were presented, drawing 7,200 buyers, both local and international, and marking an increase in the

number of onsite orders compared to last year. Buyers from the USA were the most active (+30% of orders with respect to last edition ), followed by

those coming from Russia (decreasing, but stable), Japan, Korea, China, United Arab Emirates and Eastern Europe. The delegation from Kazakhstan

attended for the first time and appreciated the quality and the creativity of the furs put on display.

According to tradition, on the first evening of the exhibition, the 16 most renowned companies attended the fashion show at the Hong Kong

Convention Exhibition Center (HKCEC) presenting their collections, thanks to the sponsorship of Hong Kong Fur Federation and with the cooperation

of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The event was followed by the banquet. The topic “Fur Nation” introduced the five themes that

characterized the selection of amazing garments exhibited in front of buyers and international press: Folkloric, Formation, Fabulously Sporty, Fabulous

and Fantasia.

La pellicceria di Hong Kong ha vissuto

rante l’ultima edizione della Internatio-

nal Fur & Fashion Fair tenutasi a feb-

braio 2014. La quattro giorni fieristica

ha proposto le creazioni di 280 espositori e attirato 7200 buyer locali e in-

ternazionali, con ordini in loco in crescita rispetto allo scorso anno. In testa

i buyer da Stati Uniti (più 30% di ordini rispetto allo scorso anno), Russia

Anche la delegazione dal Kazakistan, alla sua prima partecipazione, ha

apprezzato la qualità e l’inventiva delle pellicce in vetrina.

Ignazio Bissoli non ama definirsi uno “stilista”: si considera più un artigiano, dato che le sue creazioni attingono da un forte senso della manualità e della

materialità. Fin dall’inizio della sua attività nel 1986, Ignazio Bissoli ha sempre lavorato a Palermo e alla base della sua formazione professionale è rimasta

l’idea del “fatto a mano”; da un lato, è rimasto affascinato, fin dagli anni ’70, dalla moda, dal design e dalle tendenze provenienti da Inghilterra e Stati Uniti

che si mescolavano con la creatività italiana e dall’altro, non ha mai abbandonato l’ammirazione per l’artigianalità, simbolo in Sicilia di un’arte manifatturie-

ra e sartoriale di grande pregio.

- Abbigliamento”. Gli interlocutori incontrati in fiera (buyers, boutique, agenti di public relations e marketing, fashion designer, etc.) sono rimasti molto

colpiti dai capi sartoriali presentati in quell’occasione. La grande creatività, l’uso di diversi materiali e del colore e lo stile senza tempo che trae intuizione

creativa dalla matrice culturale della Sicilia sono tra le caratteristiche più apprezzate all’estero della produzione di Bissoli.

Linee moderne e strutturate, ricerca dei particolari, intarsi tessili, materiali alternativi e sperimentazione tecnica caratterizzano il suo stile. I capi proposti

da Ignazio Bissoli sono realizzati con accostamenti differenti di materiali (ad esempio pelli, tessuti leggeri, damaschi, pellicce, piume, strass, stampe retrò o

assolutamente moderne), dando così vita ad un effetto patchwork sia a livello cromatico che di materiali. Tutte le creazioni sono rigorosamente lavorate

Ignazio Bissoli doesn’t like to be called a “stylist”: he considers himself rather an artisan, since his creations draw heavily on the concepts of handicraft and impor-

tance of materials. Since the beginning of his activity in 1986, Ignazio Bissoli has kept working in Palermo and, at the heart of his training, there has always been

the idea of the “handmade product”: on the one side, he has been captivated, right from the ‘70s, by fashion, design and trends coming from England and the

USA and merging with Italian creativity, and on the other, he has never abandoned his great admiration for craftsmanship, considered in Sicily as a symbol of a

manufacturing and sartorial art of great value.

Bissoli’s Made in Sicily aroused great curiosity and interest when, last October, he attended the exhibition “New York International Bridal Week”, thanks to the an

activity promoted by the Productive Activities Department - Service 10 - Internationalization called “Project Sector Fashion – Textile – Clothing”. People met at

the fair (buyers, boutiques, agents of public relations and marketing, fashion designers, etc.) were really stunned by the sartorial garments exhibited on that occa-

sion. Bissoli’s great creativity, the employment of different materials and colours and the timeless style that draws on the roots of Sicilian culture are the features

that have been appreciated the most abroad.

Modern and structured lines, search for details, textile inlay works, different materials and technical experiments: these are the main features of his style. The gar-

ments proposed by Ignazio Bissoli are realized through different combinations of materials (for example: leathers, light fabrics, damasks, furs, feathers, rhinesto-

nes, both vintage and modern prints), thus giving life to a patchwork effect in terms of both colours and materials. All the creations are strictly handmade. The

main sources of inspiration for his creations are women who love to express themselves through their clothes, without taking care of trends, and who use fashion

as a way to be themselves and to convey to others their feelings.

Last March, Fur Excellence in Athens

opened its doors to welcome buyers

and professionals of the fur sector.

Organized by the Hellenic Association of

Furriers, the latest edition of the exhibition

put on display new fashion trends regarding

furs that didn’t disappoint and that

managed to arouse a deep interest in the

attending professionals: many of them came

from abroad, thus confirming the growing

importance of Fur Excellence in Athens

among the main fairs of this sector.

The exhibition was opened by the amazing

“Gala – Fur Fashion Show”: the chosen

location was the Megaron - Athens Concert

Hall and it hosted 800 people including

buyers, guests and journalists. Some of the

most innovative and prestigious Greek

designers attending the fair were chosen,

giving them an opportunity to exhibit their

exciting collections on the catwalk.

Moreover, the programme of the exhibition

was livened up by some events such as

the award ceremony of the talents

participating to the “Greek Young

Designers Competition” (sponsored by

Nafa) and the dynamic workshop

“Discovering Fur Excellence” held under

the guidance of Vasilis Kardasis, professor

at the Royal College of Art of London.

The next edition of the fair is scheduled

for March 2015 (24 – 27).

Istanbul Leather Fair

Organized by Tüyap Fairs and Exhibitions Organisation

Inc. under the leadership of the Turkish Leather

Foundation (TURDEV) and in cooperation with the Turkish

Leather Garment Manufacturers Association (TDKD), the

9th Istanbul Leather Fair (IDF) will take place on November

18-20 at the TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center,

Büyükçekmece, Istanbul.

IDF has a significant share in the achievement of Turkey's

export targets. Making quite an influence with its activity

and seminar program, trend area, fashion shows and

diversity of the product groups on display, this year's fair

will be a showcase of diverse product groups including

leather garments, fur garments, finished leather for

garments, footwear and saddlery, double-face for

garments and footwear, bags and suitcases, small leather

goods, tanning chemicals, tanning machines, sewing

machines, finishing trends, accessories, components, raw

hides and skins, fashion design.

During the fair, there will also be a fashion show arranged

by well-known choreographers and presented by famous

models, which will enable the companies to display their

latest products and trends to be evaluated by sector

professional.

Leather manufacturers producing for bag, shoe and

leather craft products will present their new products and

latest technologies, as will be tanneries manufacturing for

shoe and leather craft products, making IDF 2014 even

stronger than previous editions.

NAFA MOSCOW GALA 2014NAFA hosted their annual gala fur fashion show in Moscow on August 19, 2014.

Over 400 VIP guests attended the reception with many celebrities and designers

mixed with press representatives.

Following a brief welcoming speech by Diane Benedetti, NAFA’s International

Marketing Manager, the presentation of Top Lot awards took place. Oksana

Moroz, Marketing Director of Eastern Europe, invited many VIP buyers on stage

to accept their award plaque which was presented by Bobby Poulios, Vice

President of Buyer Relations.

Immediately thereafter, the glamour and excitement took to the stage where

“Visions”, the theme of this year’s presentation, began to unfold.The fur creations

of premiere Russian prêt-à-porter designers Igor Chapurin, Sergey Efremov and

Igor Gulyaev along with internationally renowned designer brands Gianfranco

Ferré, Michael Kors, Guy Laroche, Dennis Basso and Farley Chatto joined

celebrated fur labels for a mesmerizing parade of fur fashion. The high fashion

furriers included: EGO, EFD Papadopoulos Furs and Langiotti of Greece,

Braschi of Italy, Abel Furs, Karen Rizzi and DiCara of Dubai, Avenue, Prima

Donna and Elena Furs of Russia.

As the gala presentation came to an end, the guests were awed by the

captivating finale of Black NAFA Mink on a background of galactic stars.
