the peculiarly piquant and suggestive attraction of fashion lies in the contrast between its extensive, all-embracing distribution and its rapid and complete disinte-gration; and with the latter of these characteris-tics the apparent claim to permanent acceptance again stands in con-trast. Furthermore, fashion depends no less upon the narrow distinctions it draws for a given circle, the intimate connection of which it expresses in the terms of both cause and ef-fect, than it does upon the decisiveness with which it separates the given circle from others. And, finally, fashion is based on adoption by a so-cial set, which demands mutual imitation from its members and thereby releases the individual of all responsibility - ethical and aesthetic - as well as of the possibil-ity of producing within these limits individual accentuation and original shading of the elements of fashion. Mode ist mehr als nur zeitgemäße Kleidung. Sie ist ein Prozess des unauflöslichen wech-selseitigen Verhältnisses von Raum und Räu-men, Kleidern und Menschen. Ohne die Raumtheorie ist deshalb auch Modetheorie nicht denkbar. Die Räume der Mode sind zum einen die konkreten Orte, an denen Mode produziert und aufgeführt wird: die Straße, das Museum, der Raum der Modenschau, das Modege-schäft, der Blog, die Zeitschrift... Mehr als bloße Schauplätze, nehmen diese Räume Einfluss auf die jeweilige Mode, die Art ihrer Aufführung sowie ihrer Wahrnehmung. “Räume der Mode” meint aber auch die Räum-lichkeit der Kleidung selbst, die sich sogar zur textilen Skulptur verselbstständigen kann und im Dialog mit dem menschlichen Körper und in der Bewegung Raum schafft und sich Raum aneignet.
