MODEL 48 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Cont…

BLADE REPLACEMENT (Cont.) 3. Slide face plate assembly #4834 toward the pull off cylinder #4830 and remove the face plate assembly

from the machine. (Note: The air line connected to the face plate assembly is long enough to place it along left side of the machine.)

4. Rotate the thumb wheel adjusting nut #4804 so that the blades can be fully closed. Move the blade bar handle #4802 so that the adjusting screw #4805 contacts the blade adjusting stop #4810.

5. Replace old blades #3049 by removing (4) blade mounting screws #2922. Also loosen, but do not remove, (4) set screws #1594 to allow movement of (4) blade stop set screws #1565.

6. Back off screws #1565, but do not remove. Install new bottom blade leaving (2) blade screws #2922 with washers #2316 loose. Install new top blade against screws #1565; snug blade screws #2922 and washers #2316. Re-install face plate assembly #4834 on machine and secure cross bar #4814 to pull rods #4807.

7. With the adjusting screw #4805 backed off (closed position), rotate thumb wheel adjusting nut #4804 (14) times (see orange dot for complete rotation) so adjusting screw #4805 is out approximately 9/16” (14.25mm). With blade bar handle #4802 against blade adjustment stop #4810, install piece of flat stock #4840 (supplied with machine) as follows. Slide piece of flat stock under the clamp pad and through the blade opening in the face plate until a portion of the flat stock extends over the cutting edge of the bottom blade. Take the (supplied) thumb screw #8093 and thread it into the clamp pad so that the flat stock is securely in place.

8. Slide the bottom blade up against the flat stock and tighten the (2) blade screws #2922. Snug the (2) set screws #1565 to support blade; snug (2) set screws #1594. Now remove the thumb screw #8093 and flat stock #4840.

9. Rotate thumb wheel adjusting nut #4804 so that blades can be fully closed. Move blade bar handle #4802 so that thumb wheel adjusting nut contacts blade adjustment stop #4810. Insert feeler gauge .003 between blades. Loosen top blade screws so blade drops down on feeler gauge. Tighten blade screws #2922 and washers #2316. Snug set screws #1565 to support blade, snug set screws #1594. Open blade bar handle, remove feeler gauge. Re-connect air supply and make trial strip. Any further blade adjustment should now be made with the thumb wheel adjusting nut #4804.

INCLUDED WITH THIS MACHINE (1) #3337 wrench (1) #2934 wrench (1) #8093 thumb screw (1) #4840 flat stock
