    Seamans ScarfNotes:

A simple cable repeat with seed stitch borders gives this scarf a

sophisticated look. The slightly narrower ribbed center section

eliminates bulk while still providing warmth under your jacket

    collar.

    Cabled Cast On:

Make a slip knot on left hand needle. Slip right hand needle

through loop and pull yarn through as if to knit and place new

loop on left needle. Put right needle tip between the two stitches

on the left needle and pull yarn through as if to knit. Place new

loop on left hand needle. Slip right needle tip between last two

stitches on the left needle, pull yarn through as if to knit and

place new loop on left hand needle. Continue until you have cast

on the number of stitches you need

    .

    DIRECTIONS:

Loosely CO 32 stitches using a cabled cast-on.

Knit 4 rows in garter stitch.

    Border:

Row 1 (RS): Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, K2 * P2, K6 *, rrep

    between *s, ending with P2, K3

    Row 2:Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, K2, * K2, P2, *, rep

    between *s, ending with K5

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 three more times.

    8 Row Cable Sequence

Row 1 of Cable Sequence (RS): Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front,

K2, * P2, sl next 6 stitches off left needle, use left needle to pick

up the 2 far right stitches leaving the other four stitches in the

front, use the right needle to place the middle 2 stitches on the

left needle, finally use the right needle to place the far left 2stitches onto the left needle, k6 * rep between *s, ending with P2,

    K3.

Row 2 of Cable Sequence: Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, K2, *

    K2, P2, *, rep between *s, ending with K5

Row 3 (RS): Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, K2 * P2, K6 *, rep

    between *s, ending with P2, K3

Row 4: Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, K2, * K2, P2, *, rep

    between *s, ending with K5

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 two more times.

Repeat Cable Sequence 7 times ending with Row 1 preparing to

    flow into neck ribbing.

    Neck Ribbing:

Row 1:(WS after Row 1 of Cable Sequence) Sl 1 as if to purl with

    yarn in front, * P2, K2 *, rep between *s, ending with P2, K1

Row 2: Sl 1 as if to purl with yarn in front, * K2, P2 *, rep between

    *s, ending with K3.

Repeat these two ribbing rows until ribbing rows measure 9.

End by purling across last row (wrong side row). Do not BO

because you will be grafting the two halves of the scarf together

    using Kitchener stitch.

Knit second half of scarf exactly like the first.

    Finishing

Graft the two together using Kitchener stitch with the knit side of

the edges facing you. Block carefully to enhance cables and set

    ribbing.
