Scum Baffle solved the problem of organic waste material entering seawater. Major companiessuch as M/s Bennie & Partners (India) Ltd. and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbaiaccredited ARHAM for this unique achievement. A never before, this Indian technology compelledthe International magazine to take note of it. The product, Scum Baffle, is also patented.

The Make Accessories

The Toilet Module consists of four parts, viz:-• The Flooring Trough :- Made up of Fire Retardant FRP (Fiber

Reinforced Plastics) material with PVC Foam Sheet as thesandwich structure.

• L-shaped Side Wall :- Made up of Fire Retardant FRP material withPVC Foam Sheet as the sandwich structure. Many different sizes ofInserts of MS and SS are reinforced for mounting Equipments

• C-shaped Side Wall :- Made up of Fire Retardant FRP (FiberReinforced Plastics) material with PVC Foam Sheet as thesandwich structure. It consists of many different sizes of Inserts ofMild Steel and Stainless Steel for mounting Equipments

MRVC EMU Dash Board Panel

Indian Railways have formed a separate corporation for managing the suburbanrailway system of the Mumbai Megapolis i.e the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation(MRVC). This is part of the larger World Bank aided Mumbai Urban TransportProject (MUTP) which involves overall upgradation of the existing rail and roadtransport systems and their effective integration for providing a satisfactorytransport solution for Mumbai.

Based on the above MRVC, RDSO and ICF, had a joint discussions and decidedto incorporate many additional features, one of them was Development of FRPDrivers Desk also known as Dash Board Panel

ARHAM grab this opportunity to develop and provided the prototype sample which was again an achievement in the History of ARHAM

FRP Pantograph Lining

In the year 2001 :

Problem: The Pantograph zone of EMU coaches of Central Railway are factorybuild insulated by PCP (Poly Chloroprene) Rubber Sheet which often getsdelaminated and needs to be replaced. As the replacement cost includescomplete removal of Pantographs, its accessories and other equipments, themaintenance cost was too high and a slow & tedious process. Also, due to highDC voltage, the running EMU develops spark due to friction with the OHEWires, which might burn the PCP and can create a mishap

Solution: ARHAM received the Development Order from Central Railway,Mumbai for FRP Insulation replacing PCP Sheet completely. The Benefits of thissystem are

1. No delamination 2. High Insulation value 3. Can have patch up if the required area is opened during maintenance 4. Fire Retardant as per IS standard 5. Increase Productivity6. Long lasting7. Zero Maintenance cost

This unique benefit compelled RDSO to replace all PCP with FRP Lining for DC Sections

FRP D-Cab Lining

Problem: The Roof Top Joints of EMU (Electric Motor Unit) Driver’s Cabin ofJosseph or ICF make coaches were covered with Tar Compound. Due to humidand hot climate in Summer, the Tar compound gets melted and the joints getexposed. During monsoon, the water drips from this joints which was difficultfor the Crew and at the same time danger of electrical failure and can cause amishap.

Solution: ARHAM, in order to avoid this failure, provided permanent FRPCoating on the Roof Top Joints, which are less prone to atmospheric conditions.This coating is Fire Retardant in Nature and with HDT of 110°C.

Composite Trestle Ladder

In the year 2007 :

Problem: The Trestle Ladders were used for maintenance of OHE/Stagger Wireof Railways Electrification system. As studied earlier, straight wooden sectionsused for Height Gage were also used for fabricating Trestle Ladder. It hadalmost same problem as with Wooden Height Gage used by TD (Traction Dept).Also, working continuously for a longer period by maintenance crews found itdifficult due to lesser area of foot rest.

Solution: ARHAM by its expertise had changed the MOC (Material ofConstruction) to Fiberglass Composite Trestle Ladder with much improvedproperties. Viz:

1. Lighter in dead weight by almost 30-40%2. Increase in foot step area resulting in higher efficiency of the crew3. Ease in movement on rail tracks even by a single person4. Can work 24 x 7 in Live Electrification Sections without any Electrical Cut-

off or Blocks.

Monolithic Ladder - 32 Feet

In the year 2000 :

Problem: As Railways were the major user of wooden and Insulating materialfor Sleeper, Insulating material and alike, it was the need of the hour to find abetter substitute due to ban in deforestation. As the TD (Traction Department)of Mumbai Region worked at an elevated height of 10 mtrs (32 feet) in DCSections, the scarcity of Bamboo ladders compelled railways to find anothersuitable material to overcome this situation.

Solution: ARHAM were the only organization to develop Fiber CompositeMonolithic Side Rail Wall Support Ladder upto 10mtrs which had much betterelectrical and mechanical properties than Bamboo Ladder.Similarly, they have also constructed Fiber Composite Monolithic 11mtrsLadder for Indian Railways

Ladder Trolley

In the year 2009 :

Problem: Since more than a decade, Railways used Aluminum Ladder Trolleyfor OHE works in DC section. During these days it was very easy to get blocks(shutting off electrification) in that area for repairing and/or maintenance dueto lesser traffic as compare to today’s situation. As the technology advancesand increase in numbers of Locals and Outstation trains, Railway lines inMumbai were supposed to be too busy, handling the largest network in IndianRailways. So the reduction in number of blocks was mandatory. In order forcontinual electrification, the urge for the material which can work on and offline was a priority for DC sections.

Solution: ARHAM had replaced Aluminum Trolley with the FRP Trolley bearingfollowing properties

1. High Insulation values – Can work on-line even in break downs. 2. High Impact Strength 3. Available in different colors as per the user requirement 4. Good Ergonomics5. Pilfer proof resulting in reduction of maintenance expenditure

Composite ACP Articulated Ladder

In the year 2006 :

Problem: The working space between the consecutive EMU or Mail Coaches isnot more than 4 feet. Due to increase in traffic in maintenance of rail coaches,speedy work was the prime concern. The conventional method used Stepladder or stand on the Buffers for maintenance of ACP (Alarm Chain Pulling)brakes and other Electrical Equipment which was found tedious and danger offalling by maintenance crews. Some crews even work with the platform madeup of steel or ply which too was heavy for operations.

Solution: ARHAM carefully studied there requirement and designed aDetachable Articulated Ladder made up of Composite of FRP and Aluminum. Itconsists of two self supported Step Stool, to be placed on either side of theCoach on which the Platform of approximately 4mtrs in length was placedbetween the two coaches. The Railways were contended, by their design as itwas very convenient to work safely and speedily thus saving time andincreasing the productivity. Also shifting of Ladder was quite easy.

Fiberglass Contact Wire Height Gauge

In the year 2000 :

Problem: Another major problem was unavailability of straight woodensections for Height Gage used by TD (Traction Dept) of Indian Railways. Also, ithad a limitation for working during monsoon and in continuous rainfall.

Solution: ARHAM had designed and developed an indigenous Fiber CompositeHeight Gage replacing Wooden Height Gage for measurement of OHE/StaggerWire. Due to its inherent property of High Electrical Insulation, it can even beused 24 x 7 in Live Electrification Sections without any Electrical Cut-off orBlocks. Also, it is much lighter in weight, high impact strength, goodmeasurement readability, pilfer proof etc. The Credential for the same wasawarded by the Sr.DEE (Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer). Ultra Light Weight Ladder for VIP's

In the year 2005 :

Problem: In Railway car shed where the EMU’s and Mail Coaches are undermaintenance, the conventional ladders made up of wooden or steel sectionswere used due to absence of platforms for climbing inside the coach. Due to itsheavy dead weight, more than one person were engaged to just shift the ladderfor climbing inside the coach. As the Railways are shortage of employees, it wasnecessary to reduce the man power and fulfill their requirement. Also,aesthetically it was not pleasant for top Railway Personnels to climb throughthis ladders.

Solution: Arham had taken the opportunity to developed the same inReinforced Composite material which can be easily lifted by a single personsaving man power, providing good aesthetic, longer life and pleasant climbing

Dustbin Trolley For EMU's

Description :

Collects the Garbage from EMU Coaches directly into the Dustbin

The Dustbin is designed such that the brim is at the level of the EMU entrance

Easy movement due to lighter weight.

Door at the bottom of the dustbin is provided for removing garbage without dismantling from trolley.

Also used for climbing in to the EMU Coach.

In the year 2011 :

Problem: The Gates are situated in one of the leadingPetrochemical Industries, M/s. BPCL (Bharat PetroleumCorporation Ltd.). The Conventional system used onlyChain-Pulley Block for the operation of the Storm gates alsoknown as Nallah Gates. As the plant is situated near the seashore, it acts as a baffle during High tide, At the same timethese gates baffles the oil spillage and crude waste going tothe sea and to protect the interest of the people residingaround the BPCL Premises.

1) The movement of gate was very slow.2) During heavy rainfall or flood, it was difficult to operate

the gates even through conventional system due toheavy water pressure. As a result, the accumulation ofdrain water inside the plant can cause a havoc

Solution: ARHAM had sort out all the above shortfall by introducing full proof Automization system for Lifting the Gates anddesigned the complete system as per their site conditions as follows

1) New Steel Structure was designed, fabricated and installed without disturbing the old structure.2) Provision of Winch-gear system for individual gates coupled with Electrical Flameproof system (viz: Motor, Panel etc.)

resulting in rapid movement of gates.

Description :Arham has under taken the Turnkey Project in MOC(Main Oil Catcher) plant for Handrail System whichshould be Corrosion Resistant and Welding free.

The UVRGC Handrail System provided is the bestsubstitute to the conventional steel systems. Being lightweight, non -conductive, electronically transparent,corrosion free and durable, it is an ideal for corrosiveatmosphere having long maintenance free life.

In the year 2010 :

Problem: Major Industries viz: Petrochemical, Fertilizer,Chemical Industries etc are prone to corrosion environmenteither in the area they are situated and/or its chemicalwhich are being produced by them. M/s. BPCL (BharatPetroleum Corporation Ltd.), one of the leading player ofPetrochemical Industries had to face a similar problem. Theareas like Cooling Tower, Main Oil Catcher Unit and otherplants where safety is the prime concern, painting of SteelHandrail was frequent, resulting in huge financial losses.Sometimes due to heavy corrosion, they start producingdent thus weakening the structure and have no choice butto replace the same. Replacement requires reconstructionof civil foundation too, resulting in additional financial loss.

Solution: ARHAM has replaced Steel with UVRGCP (Ultra Violet Resistant Glass Composite Polymer) Handrail, a heavy corrosionresistance material with following properties

1) Fire Retardant as per IS 6746 standards2) Zero maintenance – No more painting is required due to its inherent color pigmentation3) Easy replacement of section if damaged without reconstruction of civil foundation4) No hot permit is required in Flameproof or Hazardous zone as the handrail panels are factory build

Scum Baffle for Waste Water Treatment

In the year 2003 :

Problem: Asia’s Largest Sewerage & Waste WaterTreatment Facility at Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai wasconstructed by M/s. Gammon India Ltd., The project wasunder arbitration for one of the reason was Provision ofFloating Scum Baffle in grit chamber. The purpose was toarrest the floating and organic material from the effluentpumping station and send the unpolluted water to the sea,maintaining the dissolved oxygen content as per MPCB(Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) norms, protect theliving organisms near the sea bed and avoid spreading ofstink. As the MOC (Material of Construction) and itsoperation were unclear, it became a difficult task for M/s.Gammon India Ltd. M/s. Binnie & Partners India Ltd.(Consultant) and MCGM (Client) to find a suitable productwhich could solve this problem.

Solution: ARHAM though were not relevant with this terminology but were confident in providing a solution to the aboveproblem. After a series of discussion, M/s. Gammon were confident that ARHAM is the only company as compare to othervendors who can provide a suitable solution to their requirement.

ARHAM goodwill and investment was at stake. But the painstaking work and confidence in them proved success in their design.It worked as required.

Composite Shaft Rooms for Hotels & Commercial Complex

In the year 2008 :

Problem: The Hotel Industries faces a very serious problemif situated near coastal area. Many of the high valueequipments and other areas using Mild Steel are prone tocorrosion resulting in deterioration of the existing system. Asimilar problem was faced by one of the renowned Five StarHotel Industries, M/s. Ramada Palm Groove Ltd., MumbaiThere Shaft rooms (Area between two Suites, Rooms etc)had small working Platform for maintenance of Water &Sewage Pipe lines. Even the leakage in pipe lines willcorrode the Platform and the MS Structure beneath it. Theperson working on that area may be unknown to suchsituation which might result in major mishap.

Solution: ARHAM replaced the Mild Steel Structure and Platform used in that area with the Non-corrosive ReinforcedComposite material taking into consideration the working & maximum load with a safety factor thus eliminating the risk of theperson or persons working at elevated shaft room.
