Sandburg

Carl Sandburg lived in a time where there were

many immigrants migrating into the United States, which is also known as the ”great American Melting Pot”. Immigrants came from a variety of cultures and Sandburg uses this in his poem. When Sandburg says “And from Nation to Nation crossing borders and mixing” that is an example of how he got the idea of using what has actually happened into poetry. He talks about the diversity of America and what the people face in the 20th century. Sandburg uses mother nature as an example for the languages of many cultures. 

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost

This poem is a story of a hardworking farmer who is on his way home, stops to admire a snowy scene. The events in this poem actually occurred to him as he experienced this after having an ineffective day at the market. On his way home, he stopped and sobbed while it snowed. He was crying because he realized that he didn't have enough money to buy presents for his children for the holidays. Mother nature also influenced Robert Frost to have poems contain the weather or the scenery of a location he was once at.
