1. Studentsontheresearch-orientedMaster’sProgramNeuro-cognitivePsychology(NCPprogram)willacquirein-depthknowledgeandhands-oncompetenciesregardingcurrent,state-of-the-artconceptual/theoreticalandmethodologicalapproachesinNeuro-CognitivePsychology.
2. GivenNeuro-cognitivePsychologyisafieldattheintersectionofExperimentalPsycholo-gyandthe
CognitiveNeurosciences,studentswill(learnto)approachthecontentsfromaninherentlyinterdisciplinaryperspective,ensuredbyteachingcontributionsfromPsy-chology(Experimental,Neuro-andBiological,Developmental,ClinicalPsychology),theNeurosciences(Neurobiology,Neurology,Psychiatry,ComputationalNeuroscience),andrelateddisciplines(Neuro-/Philosophy).
3. Asaresearch-orientedprogram,trainingontheNCPprogramisultimatelydesignedtoequip
graduatesforundertakingaPhDstudiesand/or(eventually)acareerinacademicbasicortranslational/appliedscience(includinginindustry).
4. Tothisend,studentswilldevelopthemethodologicalcompetenciestoindependentlyconduct
advanced-levelempiricalresearchinthefieldofneuro-cognitivepsychology,inparticular:tocriticallyanalyzeandevaluateextant(published)researchfindings,theo-riesandmethods;toconceptuallydevelop(theoreticallygrounded)researchquestion;,totranslatethequestionsintotestableexperiments(includingchoiceofappropriatemethodologicalapproaches);tosetup/realizeandconducttheexperiments;toanalyzethedata;tointerprettheresultsanddeveloptheirimplicationsfortheory;toconsiderthelimitationsofthefindings;andtocommunicatetheresearch(inoralpresentationsandpublishedform)tothewiderscientificcommunity,meetinginternationalacademicstandards.
5. Coremethodologicalcompetencies(acquiredthroughacombinationoflec-tures/tutorials,
seminars/debate–acquired,andpracticalhands-onwork)includebe-havioralpsychophysics,mentalchronometry,andneuropsychologicalpatientassess-ment,andneuroscientificelectroencephalography,functionalmagneticresonanceto-mography,andtranscranialmagneticstimulation;statisticaldataanalysisandneuro-computationalmodeling.
6. Whilethefocusisonbasic-level,fundamentalneuro-cognitiveresearch,studentswillalsodevelopa
sensefortranslationalresearchinareaswhereNeuro-CognitivePsychol-ogycanmakeinnovativecontributions,suchasinneuropsychological/-psychiatricdiag-nosticsandtreatment.
7. Inadditiontotheacquisitionofthescientificcorequalificationsoutlinedabove,studentswill
becomefamiliarwiththeethicalissuesinvolvedinresearchwithhumanpartici-pants(includingpatientpopulations),‘goodscientificpractice’(including‘openscience’),andcommunicatingsciencetothegeneralpublic(allqualificationsrequiredfordevelop-ingscientificprojectproposalsandapplyingforPhDstipends/positions,projectfunding,etc.).
8. Alongsidediscipline-specificknowledgeandcompetencies,studentswilldevelopnet-workingskills
(e.g.,bybeingprovidedwithopportunitiesfornetworkingwithinter-/na-tionalpartnerscientists/laboratories)aswellasothertransferableskills(scientificcommunication,teamwork,leadership).
