The students have acquired comprehensive competences in solving designing, analytical and methodological problems. They have extensi-ve knowledge and skills that they apply to varying tasks, and they can solve them independently, systematically and distinctively. They are able to acquire and apply advanced professional knowledge for a spe-cific task. They give impulses for the development of innovative design strategies and the study of trans-disciplinary design processes in the context of the ethical-cultural responsibility of design.

Specific subject-related targetsThe students are familiar with the methods for the strategic develop-ment and implementation of design concepts in the field of integrated design. They are able to reduce complex contexts/matters to their core and to visualize them. They have elaborated intelligent solution prin-ciples to recognize and master future tasks. The projects of the stu-dents are characterized by:

The students have established a strategy for their future main fields of study. They know their individual strengths and possible deficits, to purposefully target their chosen study program accordingly. They have an overview of topics and research issues of relevance for design, and have developed their own associated focus of interest. They are fami-liar with the requirements of scientific research and writing, and have formulated an own project proposal.

The students have developed their own research issue that they intend to deal with in their master thesis they have to prepare. They have formulated their research question and know the appropriate methods as well as primary and secondary sources to answer it. They are fami-liar with the requirements of scientific research and writing, and with ethical issues such as plagiarism. They have a concrete idea about the procedure of their master thesis, and have established an associated time schedule.

The students are able to relate designing to general principles of order, and to understand and assess the adequateness of their application. They have familiarized themselves with the strategies of the reduction of complexity, however they also know the problems related to reduc-tionism. They are able to recognize the systemic aspects of designs and artefacts, and to relate them to technical, biological and social systems.

MA Integrated Design

Study of the relationship between order and disorder in scientific and artistic contexts. The orders of designing and the orders of knowledge. LATCH formula (Locatron, Alphabet, Time, Category, Hierarchy). Struc-turing of information, theory and practice of information design as a cross-over design discipline. The systemic aspects of designing. From the modular principle to the system theory.

The students have studied central aspects of culture techniques of re-levance for design, and are able to incorporate them both in life-world/cultural and scientific-technological connections. They have completed the rather instrumental understanding of symbol systems and their media by aspects of cultural difference and relativity of cultural-techni-cal practices.

MA Integrated Design

Language, script, image, number, maps, diagrams and models, etc.Study of elementary culture techniques as extension of potentials of action and communication and in relation to motor-sensory and cogni-tive abilities. Intercultural comparison of scriptualization, picturization, objectification, embodiments of thinking, model formations, study of their applications and design expressions.
