1 Title Engines and Tractors 2 Code C30120 3 Level 6 4 Value 1 5 Purpose This module has been developed so that the learner will acquire an

understanding of the working mechanisms of engines and tractors. The learner will acquire skills to carry out a range of maintenance

tasks, associated with engines and tractors, safely and efficiently. This is a mandatory module on the Advanced Certificate in Greenkeeping Level 6 Award.

This module aims to enable the learner to: 8.1 understand the working mechanism of an engine 8.2 understand the working mechanism of a tractor 8.3 carry out routine servicing on engines and tractors

8.4 develop logical processes of fault-finding

8.5 appreciate that certain maintenance procedures require the expertise of a mechanic

8.6 appreciate the hazards associated with engines and tractors 8.7 develop safe working practices when operating engines and tractors.

Unit 5 Power Take Off The learner should be able to: 10.5.1 trace path of drive from flywheel to power take off point 10.5.2 discuss the role of the double clutch when using power driven attachments 10.5.3 specify the relevant power take off speed and the engine speed/PTO speed

relationship 10.5.4 list the dangers associated with the power take off shaft and how these can

Unit 7 Health & Safety The learner should be able to:

10.7.2 recognise common hazard symbols and labels

10.7.3 know the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees as specified in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act.

Summary Practical Skill Tests Written Examination

11.2 Technique Written Examination Mode Centre based with external moderation by FETAC Format The examination will consist of 4 papers Duration 1 hour per paper Details Each paper will focus on particular units as follows:

All questions on each paper carry equal marks. All questions must be attempted.

12 Performance Criteria 12.1 Portfolio of Coursework The performance criteria for each practical skill test are detailed in the

12.2 Written Examination A detailed marking scheme with the examination paper should be submitted
