Word to the Parents

Parents often wonder how to discipline a child with behaviour problems. Although some children

truly have challenging behaviours regardless of what strategies we try, many children just need to

have the adults in their lives make changes in the way they react, respond, or interact with them. All

of these strategies are positive in nature and will help you connect with your child in a way that will

increase their confidence, self-respect, and respect for you. Children with good confidence and a

healthy respect for themselves and the adults in their lives show better cooperation and make

healthier choices.

w Verbally acknowledge children's efforts.

w Use positive body language to show

approval for positive behaviour.

w Use humour with your child.

w Show your child that you are happy to see

them.

w Remind your child that they should be

proud of themselves

w Take an interest in your child's interests.

w Acknowledge your child feelings with

empathy.

w Be open minded and don't pass judgment

on your children if their thoughts, values,

feelings, or ideas don't match with yours.

w Be a role model for good behaviour.

w Follow through on your promises and

rules (barring unforeseen consequences)

and stay away from empty threats.

Moksh - An Eternal BlissMoksh - An Eternal BlissMoksh - An Eternal Bliss

“Majestic dance concert by our little entertainers in Moksh (Annul day)”

“The first-rate crop glean by our tiny farmhands”

“A farm is more than a land and crops. It is a family's heritage and future”

According to an interesting bit of research which says that the brain actually releases

dopamine when we harvest food from the garden! This is known as “Harvest High.”

As a part of farmer's week in our kindergarten farm, last month our gardeners sowed

different vegetable seeds. We nourished the crop in our garden throughout the

Winter. It was so over whelming for the kids as they observed the crop. The sparkle in

their eyes was beyond explanation. They realized that as we grow in different stages

in our life, plants too are living things and they need love and nourishment to grow.

“Riveting road safety week by our little riders”

Road safety is a subject of importance that every child should know and grow up

with. To create an awareness we took the road safety week as an opportunity to

teach children about how to be safe while we are waking on roads, riding cycles,

driving on roads, traveling in buses, wearing seat belts etc…. We did this through

group assembly, worksheets and role play. The demonstration was lively which gave

a thorough understanding of the topic.

“Paradigm Puzzle Solving competition by our IK I and IK II prodigies”

“Sagacious Spell Bee competition by our IK-III tutees”

How to Bridge the Gap From Kindergarten to First Grade

Your child has worked on many new skills during the kindergarten year.

Many of these must be mastered before he/she goes to first grade to ensure

that the transition will be successful.

Reading Comprehension

Read to your child daily. Ask questions before, during and after reading. Demonstrate how to make predictions based on the pictures on the front cover. Your child will be exposed to more complex books in first grade, so it is important for him to keep practicing comprehension skills.

Phonics

Your child learned the names of letters and their sounds in kindergarten. He also learned how to blend these sounds to make simple words. In first grade, the words will be longer and will consist of long vowel sounds and blends. Help your child read stories that contain these words and listen as he sounds out the words.

Math

Writing

When your child enters first grade, the teacher will expect him to be able to count aloud and write. We will begin math instruction reviewing basic skills including counting, number recognition, and simple addition and subtraction.

Your child's writing ability has progressed from scribbling to writing letters, numbers and simple sentences by end of the year. Kindergarten teachers stress capitalizing the first word of the sentence and writing a period or question mark at the end of it, along with writing simple paragraphs composed of three to five sentences. You can help your child by having him/her copy sentences that you write and then asking him to think of his/her own sentences on a topic. Help him/her correct spelling errors but focus on neatness, spacing and completeness.
