Land of Make Believe is een grote hit van de Amerikaanse bugelist, componist en dirigent Chuck Mangione. Legendarisch is de uitvoering op de live LP 'An Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl' uit 1978. In dit arrangement is een grote rol weg gelegd voor (vanzelfsprekend) de solo bugel en hoorn. Ook de slagwerkers kunnen hun hart ophalen in dit zeer goed klinkende en swingende arrangement.

Land of Make Believe is a huge hit from the American flugelhorn player, composer and conductor Chuck Mangione. The performance on the live LP 'An Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl' is considered legendary. Naturally this is a large feature for solo flugelhorn and horn. The percussionists also get to play their hearts out in this hip and swinging arrangement.

Legendarisch ist die Aufführung auf der Live-LP 'An Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl' aus 1978. De 'Cats Suite’ is geïnspireerd op de drie voormalige zwerfkatten met wie de componist zijn huis deelde. 'Kraken’, de enige poes tussen de katers is ondanks het feit dat ze twee keer zo klein is als de anderen duidelijk de baas over het hele stel. Na het succes van het arrangement voor blaasinstrumenten en Fanfares van 'Three Brass Cats' heeft arrangeur Henk Ummels het geheel gecompleteerd met 'Kraken’The composer Chris Hazell was the producer for many recordings by The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. The original Cats suite (Three Brass Cats - also available at Molenaar edition) was so popular, he wrote Kraken (another Cat). The Cats Suite is loosely based on the cats (all former strays) who shared the home of the composer. Kraken, the only female rules the roost, though only half the size of the others. After the success of the arrangement for Wind and Fanfare band of 'Three Brass Cats' Henk Ummels completed the Suite with Kraken. Der Komponist Chris Hazell war der Produzent vieler Aufnahmen von dem 'The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble'. Das originale 'Cats Suite' (' Three Brass Cats' auch erhältlich bei der Molenaar Edition) war so beliebt, dass er die Fortsetzung 'Kraken'(noch eine Katze) schrieb. Der Komponist bekam seine Inspiration für das Werk 'Cats Suite' von drei ehemaligen streunenden Katzen, mit denen er zusammen lebte. 'Kraken', die einzige Katze zwischen den Katern, trotz der Tatsache, dass sie zwei Mal so klein war wie der Rest, war die Anführerin der dreiköpfigen Rasselbande. Nach dem Erfolg diese Arrangements für Blasinstrumente und Fanfaren von 'Three Brass Cats' hat Arrangeur Henk Ummels das Ganze mit 'Kraken' vervollständigt. Dieses Stück, das sich immer auf James Brown beziehen wird und wahrscheinlich seine bekannteste Aufnahme ist. Ein besonders gut zu spielendes Arrangement, auch für Orchester aus den niedrigen Stufen geeignet.

Cry Me A River was also the opening track on the CD 'Crazy Love' by Michael Bublé. He turned it into a swinging big band arrangement, with a James Bond type feel. 'A Musical Fantasy' was commissioned by Kunstfactor in the Netherlands, as part of the Swinds Project. (Swing for Winds). The work is contains several well-known musical styles similar to those found in well-known musicals. Besides the normal wind band orchestration, a Piano, Bass Guitar and Drum set have been added. In the Score and Parts you can find some Side Skills: These warm ups are very helpful for learning the composition.'A Musical Fantasy' wurde im Auftrag von 'Kunstfactor im Rahmen von dem 'Swinds Project' (Swing for Winds) komponiert. In dieser Komposition kommen unterschiedliche Musikstile an die Reihe, sowie diese oft bei bekannten Musicals eingesetzt werden. Neben der regulieren Besetzung sind Klavier, Bassgitarre und Schlagzeug hinzugefügt. Weiter gibt es die sogenannten 'Side Skills', die in der Partitur und den Parteien aufgenommen sind. Diese Übungen können als 'Warming-Up' (Aufwärmung) für das Einstudieren der Komposition benutzt werden.

Dans cette composition on entend plusieurs styles de musiques qui apparaissent souvent dans les comédies musicales bien connues. À côté de l’instrumentation régulière de vents, un trio de piano, basse et batterie a été ajouté. En plus sont inclus dans la partiture des 'Side Skills’, excercices qui peuvent être utilisés comme 'warming up’ pour travailler cette composition.

Na het heerlijke 'Prelude for you' komt Ralf Uhl met een waardige opvolger, 'Freetime'. De inspiratie voor dit werk was het verfrissende gevoel van het begin van de vakantie. Met name de trompetten kunnen hun hart ophalen in deze in 'pop-stijl' geschreven, ritmisch aantrekkelijke caprice voor symfonisch blaasorkest.

After the enjoyable 'Prelude For You' , composer Ralf Uhl follows up with the very worthy 'Freetime'. The inspiration for this work was the refreshing feeling at the beginning of a holiday. The trumpets will enjoy playing their hearts out in this 'pop-style' piece, written as a fun rhythmic caprice for symphonic wind band.

Nach dem herrlichen 'Prelude for you' kommt Ralf Uhl mit dem würdigen Nachfolger 'Freetime'. Die Inspiration für dieses Werk war das erfrischende Gefühl vom Beginn des Urlaubs. Mit Name die Trompeten werden ihre helle Freude an dieser im 'Pop-Stil' geschriebenen, rhythmischen, anziehenden Kaprice für das symphonische Blasorchester haben.

Après le délicieux 'Prelude for you’, Ralf Uhl présente un successeur digne, 'Freetime’. L’inspiration pour cet oeuvre était le sentiment de raffraîchissement des débuts de vacances. Notamment les trompettes peuvent s’en donner à coeur joie dans cette caprice rythmiquement attrayante, écrite dans le syle 'pop’ pour orchestre symphonique à vents.

Cumulus clouds mostly forecasts nice, sunny weather. 2. Cirrocumulus. This kind of clouds mostly forecast rainy, stormy weather. 3. Cumulonimbus. Cumulonimbus is a type of cloud that is tall, dense, and involved in thunderstorms and other intense weather. It will be no surprise that thunder and lightning are clearly audible in this third part of 'Clouds'.'Clouds' wurde in einer modernen aber zugänglichen Idiomatik komponiert. In dieser Komposition wurden die folgenden 3 Wolken musikalisch dargestellt: I Kumulus (Haufenwolke). Der erste Teil beschreibt wie die Haufenwolken durch die Luft schweben. II Zirrokumulus (feine Schäfchenwolken). Diese Wolkenart weist auf eine zunehmende Luftfeuchtigkeit hin und kann ein Vorbote für schlechtes Wetter sein. III Komulonimbus (Gewitterwolke). Es spricht für sich, dass der Donner und Blitz deutlich im 3. Teil von 'Clouds' hörbar sind.'Clouds' a été écrit dans un idiome musical contemporain mais accessible. From 1970 the composer Henk van Lijnschooten, wrote music under the pseudonym Ted Huggens. This light music has been melodically and harmonically based on classical principles, but there is almost always a driving beat more associated with rock music. Along with New Baroque Suite, Choral and Rock Out the most well known title from this genre. In 1953 werd hij voor het eerst beklommen. De componist beschrijft op zeer beeldende wijze de uiterst gevaarlijke beklimming van deze 'koning van de bergen'. Een zeer dankbaar werk voor de orkesten uit de midden afdelingen. The Nanga Parbat, literally Naked Mountain, and also known as Killer Mountain is one of the largest and most dangerous mountains in the West Himalayas. At a height of 8125m it is the ninth highest mountain in the world. It was climbed for the first time in 1953. The composer describes the picturesque but highly dangerous acent of this 'King of the Mountains' A very rewarding work for the middle level band.

Der 'Nanga Parbat' oder auch 'Diamir' (König der Berge) ist einer der größten und gefährlichsten Berge im West – Himalaya. Spiral was written with a kind of tribute to Camille Saint-Saens. The constant changes between the minor and major keys, and between the often changing 2 and 3 feeling, with the occasional 2/4 bar thrown in, do not disrupt the flow of the piece in the slightest; in fact it is what has inspired the title. A percussion interlude, which is broken up by the unregularly occurring meter, brings the piece to a restatement of the original theme, which then ends in a large crescendo. Spiral is perfectly suited to either the opening or the close of any concert.

Spiral ist geschrieben mit Augenzwinkern zu Camille Saint-Saëns. Die Abwechslung zwischen Moll- und Durtonarten und zwischen binären und ternären Taktsorten mit ab und zu einem 2/4 Takt, stört in keinem Fall die durchgehende Kontinuität des Stückes, die übrigens die Quelle der Inspiration für den Titel war. Ein Perkussion-Intermezzo, unterbrochen durch unregelmäßige Taktsorten, bringt das Stück zu einer erneuten Exposition vom ursprünglichen Thema, um in einem Crescendo zu beschließen.

Spiral est écrit avec un clin d’œil à Camille Saint-Saëns. L’alternance entre les tonalités majeur-mineur et entre mesures binaires et ternaires , parfois ponctuées d’une mesure en 2/4, ne perturbe en rien cette continuité ininterrompue. C’est d’ailleurs ce qui a inspiré le titre de cette œuvre. Un intermède de percussion entrecoupé de mesures irrégulières amène la pièce à une réexposition de la thématique initiale, pour se terminer en crescendo. Spiral est aussi bien une pièce d’ouverture qu’un final pour tout concert.

'Heroes' is een spannend en onvergetelijk stuk dat de band met liefde zal uitvoeren en rillingen over de rug zal laten lopen, zodat uw publiek na de uitvoering, deze melodie neuriend, de zaal verlangend naar meer zal verlaten. As the title suggests, the piece is heroic and olympic in feel. One might imagine an Olympic Games opening ceremony where the athletes assemble to compete on the world stage. 'Heroes' is an exciting and memorable piece that your band will love performing and is sure to give a tingle down the spine, leaving your audience wishing for more as they whistle the tune out the door!

Wie der Titel schon suggeriert, ist dieses Stück heldhaft und gibt ein olympisches Gefühl. Man könnte hierbei an die Eröffnung der olympischen Zeremonie denken, wobei Athleten zusammenkommen um auf der Weltbühne zu konkurrieren. Wissenschaftler behaupten das Wrack von der 'Santo Cristo de Maracaibo' gefunden zu haben. Henk van Belcum maakte voor dit arrangement gebruik van het feestelijk en veel gezongen lied 'In dir ist Freude'. Beter bekend als 'Geest van hierboven’ (Gezang 477) uit Liedboek voor de Kerken. Als opening een feestelijke fanfare, met aansluitend een opgewekte dans. Het lied hoort u in de 'choral' met fraaie omspelingen, waarna het wordt afgesloten met een herhaling van de openingsfanfare.

Henk van Belcums used the festive and much loved song 'In Thee is Gladness', in this arrangement. Better known as 'Geest van hierboven' (Hymn 477) from the Songs for the Church (NL). A glorious fanfare opens the piece, which is then followed by a bright dance. The hymn is heard in the chorale section, in a fancy new setting, and the piece closes with a reprise of the opening fanfare.

Henk van Belcum verwendete für dieses Arrangement, das festliche und oft gesungene Lied 'In dir ist Freude' (Gesang 477) aus dem Kirchengesang. Als Eröffnung eine festliche Fanfare mit anschließend ein beschwingter Tanz. Das Lied hören Sie in dem 'Choral' mit schönen Umspielungen, wonach es mit einer Wiederholung der Eröffnungsfanfare beendet wird.

Henk van Belcum a pour cet arrangement utilisé la chanson festive et beaucoup chanté 'In dir ist Freude’, mieux connu comme cantique 477 du Livre des Cantiques. Comme ouverture une fanfare de fête, aboutissant en une danse allègre. On peut entendre la cantique dans la 'chorale’ avec une bel ornementation, après quoi la fanfare du début est reprise en finale.

Sir Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March no. 2 (1901) werd opgedragen aan componist Granville Bantock. Deze tweede mars is welliswaar minder bekend dan de eerste maar daarom niet minder fraai. Na een luide oproep om aandacht door het koper volgt het hout met een mooi staccato thema dat telkens aangevuld met andere instrumenten een prachtige opbouw maakt naar het Trio. Dit bevat een eenvoudige melodie in tertsen geschreven in het hout dat later uitgebreid wordt met het koper. Her werk besluit met een kort maar krachtig Coda.Sir Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March no. 2 (1901) was dedicated to composer Granville Bantock. This second march is less well known than the first, but not because it is any less of a work. After a loud proclaim for attention by the brass, comes a beautiful stacatto theme, which is gradually built up by the addition of instruments, advancing towards the Trio. The Trio contains a simple melody in thirds in the winds, which is later developed in the brass. The work closes with a short but strong Coda.Sir Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance Marsch Nr.2 (1901) wurde dem Komponisten Granville Bantock gewidmet. Dieser zweite Marsch ist zwar weniger bekannt, als der erste, aber nicht weniger schön. Nach einem lauten Aufruf um Aufmerksamkeit durch die Blechinstrumente, folgen die Holzinstrumente mit einem schönen Staccato-Thema, das mit einem wundervollen Aufbau zum Trio leitet. Towards A New Life (Josef Suk) was written in 1919 as a patriotic march, dedicated to the young Czechoslovakian army. In the same year he submitted this work to a composition competition where this march was chosen as the winner. Suk’s festive march received further accolades when it was chosen as the winners march during the Olympic Games held in Los Angeles in 1932. During World War II it was the opening tune to the radio broadcast of the Czech government in the United Kingdom. A splendid opening piece for Harmony or Fanfare Band, skilfully arranged by Ton van Grevenbroek.

'Toward a new Life' (Josef Suk) entstand 1919 als patriotischer Marsch gewidmet an die junge tschechoslowakische Armee. Im gleichen Jahr nahm er das Werk für einen Kompositionswettbewerb, wo dieser Marsch zum Sieger gewählt wurde. Suks festlicher Marsch bekam 1932 als gewinnender Marsch weitere Anerkennung während der Olympischen Spiel in Los Angeles. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges war dies das Eröffnungslied des Radiosenders, der sich nach England abgesetzten tschechischen Regierung. Ein wirklich wunderschönes Eröffnungswerk für Harmonie oder Fanfare, sehr fachkundig arrangiert von Ton van Grevenbroek.

'Toward a New Life’ (Josef Suk) était crée en 1919 comme une marche patriottique, dédiée à la jeune armée Tchèque. La même année, il a utilisé cet oeuvre pour un concours de composition, où cette marche était élu comme vainqueur. La qualité de la marche festive de Suk était par la suite reconnu en 1932, quand elle fut élue comme marche gagnante pendant les Jeux Olympiques à Los Angeles. Pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale c’était l’air d’ouverture du station de radio du gouvernement Tchèque en exil en Angleterre. Une ouverture vraiment splendide pour harmonie ou fanfare, arrangé avec beaucoup de compétence par Ton van Grevenbroek.
