n the fall of 1945, seventeen children met together at the Papillion Public School to be gin a 'Strive' . through Life. The leader of the group was Mrs. Ellen Doan Manin.

The leaders for the following seven years were: Mrs. Sutter, Mrs. Allen, and Mrs. Croiss-ant.

After eight long years of scraping and digging we decided there were many things yet un -discovered. Bill Beerline, Bob Thompson, Margie Oliver, Jeanne Denker, Barbara Godsey,Rich Willms, Robert Olson, Paul Huebner, Kae Peters, Dick Risor, Shirley Adair, Maron Runge,Karen Denker, Frances Giermann, Ben Spooner, Dean Abels, Janice Greenlee, and SharonAdams continued on their way.

During the freshman year many new people joined our group. They were Stuart and GregBell, Rich Carstens, Ed Gates, Bob Hartman, Paul Haug , Bev Johnson, Barb Krebs, CaroleKritenbrink, Ted Masek, Kay McConahy, Bill Oliver, Marge Roth, Marv Rohwer, EleanorWeiss, and Don Whitted. During that year Kay McConahy, Mary Sprague, Paul Schram, JanetSchram, and Bob Hartman left our group.

The following year Karen Denker, Dick Risor, Maron Runge, and Shirley Adair left. Oursponsor for this year was Don Lehr, the vocational agriculture teacher. In our junior year there were two new people that joined our group. They were Jim Bohac

and Connie Randall. At the end of this year Frances Giermann left us.s juniors, we presented the play, Aunt Tillie Goes to Town. It was coached by Nada

Batson, the English teacher, and Rudolph Berryman, the music t e a c h ~ We made the sum ofone hundred seventy-five dollars, which we used to sponsor the Junior-Senior Banquet at theBlackstone Hotel. The theme was Stork Club. After a long. h rd struggle we finally reached the last milestone in our journey. s sen

ion, our first task was to sponsor the freshman initiation, which was held in the park.Next came our Sneak Day, when we journeyed to Kansas City, Missouri, under the watchful eyes of Mr. Bathke and Mrs. Taylor. We saw many interesting things we'll always remem

ber.Our play, Seventeen Is Awfully Young, was presented on May 1 and 3. We worked long

and hard, and after a postpOnement on account of the mumps, we presented a good play.On May 11, the seniors were honored at the Junior-Senior Banquet at Kay's restaurant inBenson. The following Saturday, May 18, the prom was held at Peony Park in Omaha.May 19 found us in the gymnasium for Baccalaureate, and on May 23, CommencementExercises were held. Reluctantly, the thirty-one seniors separated to begin another search forknowleqge outside of the school doors. Bidding each other a fond farewell, they slowly walked

out of the door of the new school building.

"AMAZING DISCOVERIES MADE IN EXCAVATION OF BURIED CITY I This was thereport that spread throughout the city on the morning of May 31, 3000.

With one accord the whole populace dropped its activities and flocked to the scene wherebefore their wondering eyes, a long dead town began to reveal its secrets, under the picks andshovels.

"What's the name of the town?" someone called, and without delay a second voice calledback, "Papillion I

True enough So it turned out to be. Papillion, a small town that had flourished a thousand years before and then had disappeared with the passing of time, until, like Rome, it wasburied by centuries of debris, had come into its own once more. Suddenly a loud shout aroseabove the excited buzz of voices.

"What is it?" What is it?" everyone wanted to know."We've found a picture of the mayor," one of the diggers answered breathlessly. "Here

he is Take a look ""What was his name?" one gazer wanted to lmow. They turned the picture over and there

on the back they found in large black letters, the name of the mayor: NORMAN PETERSEN.But scarcely had they had time to repeat the words before another loud shout arose. More amazing discoveries had been made.

As they dug up the old high school building they found RICHARD CARSTENS and BILLBEERLINE the school's old faithful janitors. Beside them was lying a bottle of of of thelabel's kind of blurred a bottle of, oh yes Sunny Br i I mean Sunny Floor Cleaner.

Continuing down the corridor they found DON WHITTED, the speedy typing teacher, typing madly to make up his back lessons from 1957.

In the next room much to our surprise, they found TED MASEK and BOB BARNHART, thepresident and vice-president of the school board working after hours signing diplomas. MARGIEOLIVER. the county superintendent, is supervising their work closely.A peek into the cafeteria revealed BILL OLIVER and MARVIN ROHWER hard at workpreparing the delicious(?) lunches we used to get at good old P.H.s. Marv's many long, hardyears at Oddo's Drive-In have finally paid off.

The building completely excavated, the crew began to move toward the place where thestreet should be. Digging down, they found RICHARD WILLMS and GREG BELL the Chief andAssistant Chief Sewer Sweepers busily washing down the sewers.Further down the street we found MARGIE ROTH, the expert tree surgeon trying to revive

the old elm tree that was transplanted not too successfully at that when BENNY SPOONER Sthree oil wells were discovered in the place where the old Ford Garage used to stand. We foundthat it was moved to a new and bigger location since the new dealer, JEANNE DENKER. tookover and began to sell Volkswagens. She had a booming business from the looks of the salesbooks.Down town in the cafe we found STUART BELL busily setting the table. He had been areplacement as an authority in the field of etiquette since Emily Post passed away. His succession resulted in many changes, particularly in table manners. He has shrewdly eliminated theuse of Knives, Forks, and Spoons. With what do we eat? The fingers, naturally What else?

Sitting at a table in the cafe we found JIM BOHAC, the chief headshrinker at the Internationally known Papillion Psychiatric Institute, commonly known as Papillion High.

The theatre sign boasts of a performance by Muscles McGregor, the former BEV JOHNSON.She defeated Gorgeous Georgia at Madison Square Garden for the much-coveted title.

Petrified in the middle of the street, her clutched tightly between her teeth we saw KAEPETERS, the noted snake charmer. She majored in charm. She majored in this type of thing inPapio High.

In one corner of the city we see what had been responsible for eartltquakes. MARVINZUGMIER, contemporary of Elvis you-know-who and Little Richard, is still wiggling. Hisguitar hangs rhythmically by his side.

Peering up the street, we notice a beat-up red Chevy convertible. Beside the right frontwheel is the former, CONNIE RANDALL, trying to change a flat tire. She seems to be havingsome difficulty, because several of her twelve children insist on running off with the tire bolts.

Preserved in all his beauty in his black spangled satin tights and his white spats we saw thefair haired boy of the ballet the Star of the Ballet usso de Abels Bar DENO ABELS. Petrified nearby are various and sundry admirers clutching their autograph books and locks of hisgolden hair in their little hands.

Further down the street we notice a new building. It is the radio station, P-A-P-I-0, withSmilin SMILEY HAUG the famous disc jockey. His secretaries, BARB GODSEY and JANICEGREENLEE are busily preparing records for his next program.

Next door we find the office of Yerk um Yank um YOBBY THOMPSON the famed dentistof such movie stars as, Lassy Rio-Tin-Tin, Trigger Francis - the mule, of course. Hisassistant, CAROLE KRITENBRINK seems to be having a little trouble giving the novicaine toone of the patients.

Outside of the city limits we found the boss of the Peanut Raisers of America, ROBERT OLSON and his partner, ED GATES. They have been raising peanuts for Paul s Nut House managed by PAUL HUEBNER. He also takes care of the overflow of the patients from the LincolnSanatarium. The lastest customer has been ELEANOR WEISS the famed hypochondriac.

The search of the town completed, we feel that we owe some thanks to the bulldozeroperator with whose help this work could not have been completed. She is none other than a descendant of BARB KREBS Her strong physique needed for this sort of operation was also evidentin Barb who was a champion cow milker in 1957

The minute the under-classmen stepped through thedoors of P.H.S. on October 91956 they sensed that some-thing was missing. YESI it wasthe wonderful Seniors. Rightthen they didn't know how theywould make it through the restof the day without them but assoon as th ey entered the studyhall and the other classroomstheir attitude changed. Therethey found encouraging. heart-warming messages written bythe artistic Seniors. Now theywould have something to re-mind them of the Class of'57''on their day of absence. Now to tell you a littleabout our joyous day. ThirtYseniors sleepily boarded the };usto Kansas CitY Missouri at2:30 a m We were delayed abit because Mr. Bathke hadoverslept.

Then weboarded the bus to go to theColgate Palmolive Plant. Therewe saw how Fab Colgate HaloCrystal White Veto LusterCream, Brisk, and other products were made. This tourproved profitable because weall received a gift box of theirproducts.Next we went to SwopePark where we visited the zoo.We saw many different animals

iAmong them were lions anteaters, leopards, monkeys racoons wolves buffaloes, andhippopotamus. There were alsomany snakes, spiders and rarebirds. We left the zoo and wentto downtown Kansas City. Thereeveryone split up for supper.t 6:30 we met at the bus de pot. Again we were loaded upwith supplies to tie us over.We left the bus depot about7:15and headed for home. Westopped for a break at FallsCity Nebraska at 9:30.On the way home most ofthe Seniors vowed not to go tosleep. This vow held until wegot about fifty miles fromhome--then everyone konked out.We reached Papio at 12:30sleepilY left the bus, and :;aidgood-bye to one of the mostmemorable days of our lives.
