Monarch 2 LTE PlatformMonarch 2 is extremely cost and power-effi cient, either as a standalone

LTE solution or as a basis for LTE modules. Monarch 2 has been highly

optimized for cost-eff ective LTE device design, enabling Cat M1, NB1 and

NB2. LTE module cost to rival 2G module cost. Monarch 2 provides the

necessary IoT features along with extremely low power consumption

at a low cost for an industry-leading price/performance capability.

ApplicationsMonarch 2 is ideal for adding LTE-M and/or NB-IoT LTE connectivity

to narrowband, low data rate M2M and IoT devices, including utility

meters, industrial sensors, health and fi tness bands, asset trackers,

and numerous additional devices for smart home, smart city, and

wearable applications.

Key Benefi ts of Monarch 2 LTE PlatformUltra-Small and Low-Cost Solution Monarch 2 integrates all digital baseband, RF transceiver, RAM memory

and power management functions. In addition it incorporates an MCU

and iUICC which contribute reducing the total solution footprint by

removing these external components. Its high level of integration and

highly-effi cient architecture result in a very cost-eff ective solution for

price-sensitive IoT devices. Thanks to Monarch 2’s careful chip design

and large ball pitch, PCB designers can use low cost PCBs to make

modules and end products. This allows for additional cost reduction and

simplifi ed hardware integration.

Single-SKU Global Operation with Support for all Power ClassesMonarch 2’s versatile architecture supports a single RF front-end for all

LTE bands worldwide in the range of 617-2200 MHz, which includes band

71. Monarch 2 can support all power classes +23 dBm/+20 dBm/+14

dBm, which will be mandatory in the years to come to support global

deployments with optimal capacity usage.

IoT-Select - Dual Mode LTE-M and NB-IoTIoT-Select is Sequans’ dynamic mode selection technology that enables

seamless worldwide roaming between operators supporting either

LTE-M or NB-IoT or both.

Ultra Low Power Monarch 2 leverages Monarch’s industry-leading PSM (power saving

mode) power consumption at 1uA to which it adds up to a 60 percent

improvement in power optimizations in eDRX, IDLE and active modes,

making it best-in-class. This is essential for battery-powered IoT devices.

Direct Battery ConnectionMonarch 2 supports a single-rail power supply for a wide voltage range,

2.2V to 5.5V. This allows a direct battery connection without the need

of buck-boost or DC/DC converters. For example, a Monarch 2 based

design could be powered with 2x AA batteries directly.

Integrated MCU with Sensor-Hub Mode and Embedded Voice ProcessorThe integrated MCU allows application developers to run their

applications on Monarch 2 without requiring an external CPU/MCU.

This MCU is dedicated to customer application and provides enough

fl ash and RAM to run the most demanding applications. In addition, the

MCU supports an ultra-low-power sensor-hub mode in which the MCU

is clocked at a very low frequency in order to capture and pre-process

data from external sensors. Embedded voice processing acceleration

and third parties. The software also provides support for all major cloud

protocols like MQTT, HTTP, HTTPS or CoAP together with a TLS1.3

security stack which enables application developers to connect to a

variety of cloud servers, including AWS, GCP, Azure.

Embedded Security Thanks to its EAL5+ grade embedded Secure Enclave, application

developers have a certifi able cryptographic subsystem that can be used

for key provisioning, secure boot and hardware crypto acceleration. This

Secure Enclave can also be used as an iUICC allowing the removal of the

external SIM element and adding further cost reduction and a simplifi ed

supply chain.

Location of ThingsMonarch 2 embeds Sequans IoT-Findit Location Engine which provides

indoor and outdoor positioning via a wide range of location technologies.

This provides application developers with the fl exibility to select

the geo-location technology that best meets their accuracy, power

constraints and cost requirements..

Second Generation LTE-M and NB-IoT Chip Platform for the Internet of ThingsMonarch 2 is a single-chip LTE-M and NB-IoT solution designed specifi cally for narrowband IoT applications,

including sensors, wearables, and other low data, low power M2M and IoT devices. Monarch 2 is built on three

years of Sequans’ exclusive and fi eld-proven experience with Monarch, which is and has been the industry’s

leading LTE for IoT chip since its introduction in 2016. Monarch 2 builds on the success of fi rst-generation

Monarch and incorporates full reuse of Monarch’s software and architecture, allowing all existing customers

to migrate to Monarch 2 seamlessly. Monarch 2 brings several signifi cant advancements, including an

integrated Secure Enclave (SE) with the industry’s highest level of security, enabling a variety of integrated

SIMs, a 60-percent improvement in power consumption, beating the already industry-lowest level of

Monarch, and an industry-leading high level of integration that further simplifi es and lowers the cost of IoT

device design.
