Monday 6th July – Writing
SPaG
1) Look, cover, write and check
2) Find synonyms for ‘descent’ and ‘dissent’. Draw a picture to represent what
each of these words mean.
This week, we will be writing our own poetry. Figurative language helps to create
specific imagery in your writing. These are just some of the tools you can use:
Personification – gives human qualities to an animal, inanimate objects or
abstract notions.
The hyena laughed. The fog crept in. The snowflakes danced.
Year 6 Week Beginning: Monday 6th July 2020
Metaphor – a comparison between two things that are not alike but do have
something in common.
Life is a journey. Her eyes were ice. A pan of thoughts.
Simile – a comparison between two unlike things using the words like or as.
It is as black as night. She eats like a bird.
1) Identify and highlight examples of each in the poem:
2) Write one of your own examples of each. Use the pictures below for
inspiration.

Create a line graph to show these results.
1) Label the axis (time/length)
2) Choose scale
3) Label the axis (increments of time and
distance)
4) Plot the data

North America and South America are two of the largest continents in the world. One is
made up of 52 states, the other 12 sovereign states but what is the difference? What are
the traditions of these continents? Do they have the same musical influences? Do they play
the same sports? Do they speak the same language?
Topic Year 4
The Big Question
Are the continents of North America and South America the same?
Select one or more activity from the menu below:
When completed, take a photo and email it to your teacher:
The country of Brazil is in South America and is
famous for the spectacular Rio de Janeiro
carnival. The carnival features lots of colour,
music and dance. Watch some carnival dances
and have a go at creating your own dance to
share with your household or friends.
Bald eagles only live in North America. They
have become a famous symbol for the USA.
Research some of your favourite animals and
then create a fact file about your own invented
animal.
Silicon Valley is located South of San Francisco,
California. It is home to thousands of tech
companies, including Google and Apple. If you could
design an app, what would it do? Design an
appealing logo to advertise your new app.
We have the ancient Maya of Mesoamerica to
thank for chocolate! They dried, ground and
mixed cocoa beans to make them into a drink.
Find out how chocolate is made and have a go at
creating something tasty with chocolate.
