YEAR 4 OVERVIEW Monday and Tuesday Week 2, Term 4 2021 Monday 11 October Morning Session Good morning girls and boys, We hope you have been out and about exercising over the weekend hunting for the Lindfield Lion! There are 50 lions hiding around the suburb of Lindfield. The hunt continues this week and we will be excited to see if you find them all! Congratulations on your beautiful artworks! We hope you enjoyed the ‘Art on Canvas’ zoom last Friday. You certainly produced some lovely art products. The good news of the last few days is that we will all be coming back to school earlier than anticipated. We can’t wait to see you on Monday 25 October when we are back together in our classroom. This week, of course, our Learning from Home continues. We are loving your amazing poetry and look forward to reading more of your creations this week. In Mathematics, you will continue with the topic of Area and then we will begin Decimals. Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to Problem Solving. In History, you will meet a colourful identity from the past and in Art we will be travelling back to ancient Egypt! There are so many interesting learning activities to do! Remember to follow the instructions in this overview. You will be directed to your booklet or a Seesaw activity or perhaps to use your exercise book. The tasks to be submitted to your teacher for feedback are: the History pictures, Spelling activity and Friday’s Shared Reading responses. Our Zoom sessions are back to the routine of last term with class lessons on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00 – 10.45am. ZOOM Lesson 10.00am – Overview, Writing (45 mins) Make sure you have your Booklet, Overview, mini whiteboard, pencil and paper for this lesson.

READING Independent Reading (20 mins)

1. Read a book of your own choice for 15 minutes or read the e-book assigned to you by your teacher. Teachers will email you if you have an e-book assigned.

2. Complete a Reading Reflection in your booklet or on Seesaw. You may choose to make a connection, visualise what you read, make a prediction or summarise the section of text. If you use the booklet, please photograph the pages and upload to this Seesaw activity OR answer directly on to the ‘T4W2 Reading Reflection’ Seesaw activity.

3. Save as a draft until Friday. Recess MATHEMATICS (60 minutes) Warm Up - Complete Set 31.1 column of the ‘Maths Mentals’ in your booklet. We are continuing to learn about Area. Complete the Seesaw task you have been assigned called ‘T4W2 Monday - Area’. For this activity you will need to:

1. Watch Miss Chue's video. 2. Answer the questions on Seesaw. Please show all your working. 3. Complete the worksheets in your booklets.

Revision: Complete the activities assigned to you on Mathletics at some point this week. Fast Finishers Complete the ‘Matharoo’ worded problems found in your booklet. Choose your appropriate level. BRAIN BREAK (5 mins) Go outside into the beautiful sunshine.

• Sit down cross legged, count to five. Stand up, reach for the sky, count to five. Ten times.

• Lie down on your back, count to five. Curl up into a ball, count to five. Ten times.

• Lie down on your left side, use your right hand to help you roll five times to the left.

• Lie down on your right side, use your left hand thelp you roll five times to the right. • Give your whole body a shake while you count to ten.

Turn on the timer and repeat the above routine for five minutes.

WRITING (50 mins) This week you will be continuing to write and appreciate poetry. An activity has been assigned to you on Seesaw. 1.Learn the pattern of a seasonal poem. 2. Write your own seasonal poem.

Lunch HISTORY – (60 mins) Today we are going to learn about an important person in the history of Lindfield. He was a convict, sawyer and riverman. His name was Joseph Fidden. You will find this activity on Seesaw. It is called ‘T4 W2 History’. 1. Look at the pictures on the Seesaw slides and listen to the story of Joseph Fidden. 2. Create picture collages imagining the conversations between Joseph Fidden and his friends. Use the Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin paintings as background. Add speech and thought bubbles to the subjects. Apply your historical knowledge and imagine what the subjects would be saying, thinking, wondering and worrying about. Your teacher will give you feedback on this task.

Tuesday 12 October 2021 Morning Session WRITING (50 mins) we are going to learn how to write a poem called a ‘Cinquain’ An activity has been assigned to you on Seesaw. 1. Listen to the explanations of how to construct a cinquain poem. 2. Write your own cinquain poem.

SPELLING (30 mins) Marion The spelling words this week include words that use the suffix ‘wise’ (meaning- in relation to..), words that use negative prefixes (un, de, dis, im, mis) and some topic words. Complete the following activities in your exercise book. Remember to set your work out neatly with the date and title. 1.Fold your page in half. In the first column, write these words;

clockwise, lengthwise, otherwise, edgewise, crosswise, unable, decode, displease, impossible, misspell, medicine, marvellous, irregular, survive, poetry.

2.In the second column, write the words in alphabetical order. 3.Use a coloured pencil to underline the suffix ‘wise’. Use a different colour to underline the negative prefixes. Spelling Rule A negative prefix, is a prefix which carries a negative meaning ‘not’, ‘opposite of’. In English, one way to make a negative statement is by adding negative prefixes to nouns, adjectives and verbs. The most common negative prefixes are- in, un, non, de, dis, a, anti, im, il and ir. 5.Use the negative prefixes- ‘in, mis, dis, un and de’ to turn the following words into the negative;

healthy, adequate, hydrate, visible, understand, tasteful, interpret, belief, loyal, friendly. 6. Take a photograph of your spelling work and upload it to the Seesaw activity called T4W2 Spelling. Your teacher will give you feedback on this task.

Recess MATHEMATICS (60 minutes) Warm Up - Complete Set 33.2 column of the ‘Maths Mentals’ in your booklet. This week we are learning about area. Complete the Seesaw task you have been assigned called ‘T4W2 Tuesday - Area’. Today you are going to draw up the plans for your dream house. For this activity you will need to:

1. Outline your dream house by drawing the outside walls. Your dream house should be a compound shape (a shape made out of rectangles and squares) and should only have right angles.

2. Separate your house into rooms. Each room must be a rectangle or square. 3. Label and Colour each shape. 4. Find and record the area of each room. Add the area of each room together to find the

overall area of your house. Your house needs to have a minimum of 6 rooms. Revision: Try to complete the activity on Mathletics at some point this week. Fast Finishers Continue on with the ‘Matharoo’ worded problems found in your booklet. BRAIN BREAK (5 mins) Find a spot outside in the sunshine.

• Pretend you are walking up five stairs, when you get to the top, turn around and clap five times before going back down the stairs. Ten times.

• Stand up straight, stretch your arms straight up to the sky. Bend your knees and touch the ground. Ten times.

• Stand up, put your legs about a metre apart. Stretch your arms up to the sky then bring them down through your legs. Ten times.

• Stand up feet together, raise your right hand up to the sky. Lift your left leg and touch your knee with your right hand. Repeat with your left hand and right knee. Ten times.

Turn on the timer and repeat the above routine for five minutes. ART (50 mins) This term we will be looking at Art Around the World. Today we will be exploring some forms of Egyptian art.

1. Log in to Seesaw and open the “My Egyptian Art” activity.

2. Read the slides and watch the video to learn about Egypt and Egyptian art.

3. Using the template in your booklet called “Ancient Egyptian Art”, create your own Egyptian art of an important event in your life. Try to include your name in hieroglyphics.

LIBRARY with Mrs Chapman (60 mins) Celebrations and Commemorations: Immerse Last week you investigated the differences between a celebration and a commemoration. Your responses have been transformed into two ‘Wordles’ to give a visual representation of your combined definitions! See this week’s worksheet.

Now, we move onto the ‘Immerse’ stage of the Guided Inquiry process where you will surround yourself in information to gain some background knowledge to help you decide on which event you will research.
