What do you think Whitman means by this? Do we more often think for ourselves or go along with what

books and people who came before us say? Why do you think Whitman says we must “listen to all sides”

before we share what we think? How can we “filter” ideas in our own way? How can you do this in school? Are you allowed to? Explain.
