To all of the wonderful Jilliby families,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome I have received since arriving at Jilliby Public School at the beginning of Term 2. You have shown me warmth and kindness, engaged in conversations with me, offered advice, supported the vision we have had for the school and worked with me to ensure ongoing improvement in our school environment and teaching and learning opportunities for your own children and all of the students at Jilliby PS.

I have had such a wonderful time Relieving Principal for the past 2 terms and am so grateful for the opportunity to get to know all of the wonderful students across the school and to be part of their learning experiences. I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful staff at Jilliby. It has been so uplifting to work with dedicated staff who have been so receptive to making ongoing improvements for the benefits of our students. I am very thankful to have met and worked with so many wonderful parents and families. You have all been so giving of your time, and it is wonderful to see all of the great opportunities that our students get to experience because of the time and assistance that you offer the school.

I have had many highlights in my time here, the most recent being our involvement in the Small School’s Concert at Wyong Art House. This was by far one of the most enjoyable school performances I have seen, and it was such privilege to be part of such an incredible event. We have had many celebrations including; Mother’s Day Morning Tea, Father’s Day Sausage Sizzle and Grandparents and Families Day, and I look forward to a final celebration with our Raising of the Flag ceremony next Friday morning. I hope that many of you can make it along to this very significant event where we will raise both the Australian and Aboriginal flags for the first time in our 140 year history at Jilliby PS.

Once again I would like to thank you for making my time at Jilliby so rewarding, uplifting and enjoyable. Next term Ms Sondra Broadhurst will be returning to her position of Principal at Jilliby PS. I wish all of the students, staff and families a successful future and I look forward to hearing and seeing the students here at Jilliby go on to great things in their future.

Natalie MacDonald

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Parents in Learning survey We are asking each of our families to consider completing the Partners in Learning survey that we do each year as part of capturing feedback from parents/ carers. The views of parents/carers provide us with information on how we can work together to provide the best possible educational experience for your child(ren). The survey can be found at https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/gsnww

The survey will typically takes 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated. The results from previous surveys have been used to inform school directions.

Students will be participating in the Tell Them From Me online student surveys in order to hear directly and anonymously about their perspective. We will be asking their views on things that matter to them such as student engagement, student wellness and the school’s learning climate.

The parent survey will be open until Friday 26 October. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

Flag Raising CeremonyThe school will be holding a ceremony this Friday 28 September at 9.15am to celebrate the raising of the Aboriginal flag, alongside the Australian flag, for the first time in the school’s history. Students are able to come dressed in Red, Yellow or Black and will be participating in cultural activities throughout the day. Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter for more details.

Click, Click! Say Cheese! School photos will be taken next term on Wednesday 17 October. Don’t forget to send the photo envelope in with your child on the day, if you require a new envelope, please see the front office.

It would be greatly appreciated if all students can wear the correct, full school uniform for their photo day (not sports uniforms).

For any queries / online payments, please visit: www.msp.com.au (you will need to quote the personalised ‘shoot key’ provided on the photo order envelope sent home with all students).

End of Term The last day of Term 3 is this Friday 28 September and students return to school on Monday 15 October. Students should return to school in their summer uniform.

We hope all students have an enjoyable break!

Mrs Natalie MacDonald

THE GREAT AUSSIE BUSH CAMP

Golf LessonsThis term at Jilliby our students have been learning the fundamentals of playing golf. Belinda, our golf coach has been coming in every week to shows our students the finer points of correct stance, swing and head position. She has also be playing a variety of games to help develop fundamental movement skills, as well as golf specific actions. Jilliby students have enjoyed developing new skills and discovering golf talents they never knew they had! It has been great to watch our students develop discrete golf skills and become more proficient at striking the ball with greater accuracy.Trevor Bof, Sports Coordinator

Great Aussie Bush Camp

Last week years 3,4,5 and 6 headed off for fun and adventure at the Great Aussie Bush Camp! We had an excellent time climbing the ropes, crawling through the mud run, swinging on the giant swing, gliding on the flying fox, building rafts and canoeing. We also had a great time at the county fair and games night in the evenings! It was excellent to see so many Jilliby students surprise themselves at what they could achieve and to watch them overcome challenges in order to have some serious fun! Students also had the opportunity to develop cooperative skills and sportsmanship through group activities based on team building, such as the team raft building and low ropes course. I’m sure there were some lasting memories made and there are many stories of bravery and adventure to share for some time to come!

THE GREAT AUSSIE BUSH CAMP CONTINUEDCamp started on Monday 10th September and ended on Wednesday 12th. Our 3 days there were a blast! When we arrived we got right into it. We meet our instructor Luke. He was the best instructor ever! He was funny and nice. Our first activity was raft building which was really fun. We decided to make a big raft that the whole class could fit on. We all had to sit on the raft and get to the other side, sit on a toilet. Then we had to get everyone back on the raft and paddle back to the shore. The next activity was the high ropes, which I definitely regret. We got strapped into a harness and had to walk across a small rope around in a square. We were quite high up. What made high ropes better was the fact that we got to go on a small flying fox. I enjoyed the feeling of zooming down. Even though high ropes were not my favourite I’m glad I got that experience. After dinner we had our last activity and that was county fair. Everyone had a group and every group had a store, there was a bakery, jumping castle and sumo wrestling, arcade, milkshakes and face painting and more. It was great fun. At the end of the County Fair we went to bed.By Paisley

4/5/6 CLASS REPORTGolfOn Fridays this term we have been doing Golf of our sport. Some of the activities that we have done are hitting them as hard as you can up into the into the back paddock. We have worked on our aim by hitting them into the nets and hitting them softly into the circle. By Wil

On Fridays we do golf with Miss Belinda we do shooting challenges to see who has the best aiming ability and who can hit the ball the farthest and highest. We have also had putting contests to see who can gently hit it into the hole with a club called a putter.By Gideon

Soccer 5sOn Wednesday 15th August Jilliby Public School competed in the Soccer 5s. Charlee, Claire, Dakoda, Maddy, Ceanna, Maryanne, Konnor, Nick, Judah, Lawrence, Johnathan and Gideon all went and played scoccer for our school. We all had a blasted! The boys played first and they were playing great. After a couple minutes later they all got tried because they were working so hard and running around so much. After the boys game it was the girls turn but we got tired too. We played really good and were all happy at the end. Unfortunately both of the girls and boys team didn’t win any of their games but still did an amazing job!! In the 2nd game for the boys Lawrence got one goal and in the 2nd and 4th game for the girls Charlee got two goals. All the Other kids were really close to getting a goal.By Charlee

Robotics We are learning about the EV3 robots. Every Monday we go to the library and we learn how to move it in a circle direction. We have to write a code that would tell the robot to go in a circle. If you write a code and it doesn’t go in a circle you most likely did something wrong in the code.By Hailey

The Book ParadeThe Book Parade was so amazing Charlee, Charlie and I were all inflatable dinosaurs costumes and Alix was our leader. Everybody in the school dressed up as all of these amazingly cool characters. My buddy Kalani dressed as Paddington Bear. She was so cute. By Claire

The Beep Test This term we have been doing the beep test once a week. We all go out to the basketball court and line up on the line. Then Mrs Buckton sets up the speaker and starts the test. It counts down from 5 and beeps. We run to the other end of the basketball court and wait for the next beep before we run back. After each lap the time gets faster and faster. The point is that we can last longer each week. Mrs Buckton says it improves our fitness.By Maryanne

SMALL SCHOOLS CONCERT

Amazing Race Small Schools Concert at the Wyong Art HouseThe amazing race small schools was a concert our school was involved with earlier this term. Each class from every school performed dances and sang songs throughout the performance which everyone was involved in. The K/1 class from Jilliby did an excellent job of performing their Maori and poi stick item, originated from New Zealand. The 2/3/4 class from our school wowed the crowd with their fun, colourful, Brazilian dance funky monkey dance. Our 4/5/6 class gracefully danced around like petals in the wind with our Chinese cherry blossom dance. Two students from each school were selected to act out some skits in between most of the performances, the two students from our school were Charlie G and I. Charlie and I went to numerous rehearsals to prepare for the exciting event and studied our lines every day during literacy groups. Mrs Nova, a teacher from Wyong Creek, ran the performance and was in charge of most things. She wrote all the skits and organised all the rehearsals and dates. Finally the exciting day came where we were going to perform at the Art House! Charlie and I arrived a few hours before the rest of the school to do one last rehearsal before the big show. We got our mic-headsets adjusted and attached to us, and our costumes put on. We saw our dressing room and unpacked all our lollies and food for later on that night.2pm came around and the doors were opened, people were filing in and filling up the seats rather quickly. By then our school had arrived and were in the waiting studio. The skit people were called onto the stage for the intro and the show had started. It was an amazing experience and everybody had a great time. We stopped in between shows for a sausage sizzle dinner. And after both performances had finished it was time to go home after a huge day and a late night. Both audiences from both the matinee and the evening were very pleased with the performances and enjoyed watching. In summary we all had a great day.By Zoe
