Teacher Communication:To ensure optimal outcomes for our students we encourage parents to inform teachers of any concerns they may have. We encourage you to make an appointment through the front office to allow a sustained and meaningful conversation – not just a quick at the door meeting. While teachers are experts in teaching, you’re the expert on your child.

Skool Bag is also another way that we will be communicating all events happening in Stage 1 in 2019.

ANY ISSUES that may be affecting your child need to be expressed to classroom teachers.

Pick Up and routine changes need to be expressed in writing or directly to the class teacher.

Stage 1 Levy:Thank you to all the families who have already paid their $15 levy. This provides students with exercise books for the year and enables us topurchase other resources to support class programs. The levy also includes individual student subscriptions that can be used at home. The subscriptions to Reading Eggs and Mathseeds is valued at $160 ifpurchased by parents at home.

SeeSaw:SeeSaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school. A Parentinvitation letter with your child’s unique code will be sent home in the coming weeks to allow you access to view your child’s portfolio. More information can be accessed at the following website https://web.seesaw.me/.

Absences:By law absences are required to be explained. Late arrivals or early leavers are required to collect a pass from the office.

Classroom AssistanceIf you would like to help in the classroom by hearing students read from their classroom text for approximately 30 minutes, please let classroom teachers know.

Homework:100 Book Challenge: Students are encouraged to participate in Stage 1 100 Book Chllenge. Students are welcome to read texts from homeor books from the school’s homereaders. When borrowing from thehomereader collection, students can change their book daily however, if you feel that your child would benefit from reading the same book for another night or two please keep the book.

Reading Eggs and Mathseeds: The user names and passwords for Reading Eggs and Mathseeds is being sent home in the coming days. Please try to complete one session of each every week. Let me know if you have trouble accessing the internet.

WHAT WE ARE DOING IN STAGE 1 Term Grid: Students will have received a list ofliteracy & numeracy suggestions that relate to the topics taught in class as well as Talk It Out topics that encourage child/parent discussions for the term.

Technology:We will be continuing to implement iPad technology into our classrooms throughout the year. We will also be doing STEM activities throughout the year that focus on one aspect of Science, Technology, Engineeringand Mathematics,

Growth Mindset / YCDI:In Stage 1 we will be teaching our students that the human brain is like amuscle that can be trained through repition and practise. When studentsrealise this, they develop a growth mindset: the belief that abilities can bedeveloped through commitment and hard work. And once they have a growth mindset, they can learn anything. YCDI foundations of Organisation, Getting Along, Resilience, Persistence and Confidence are also being taught.

Crunch & Sip:During our morning session students have the opportunity to enjoy a small piece of fresh fruit or vegetable. Nude Food is a concept we are continuing to encourage among our students to support our Eco Warriors and assist our Waste Wise School initiative.

Canteen:The school canteen is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Orders can be placed into the classroom lunch trays or dropped off atthe canteen.
