What are the ways to monetize mobile traffic in 2014?• Selling Product via shopping carts & buy buttons

• Contextual Advertising through an ad network. (Adsense, Kontera)

• Getting paid for the download of an app (CPA)

• Getting paid on a cost per lead basis (CPL)

• Getting paid for recommending related content (Taboola, Outbrain)

• Direct Carrier billing, getting the user to opt-in and add your charges to their next monthly bill

• Getting paid for someone calling a particular phone number (Pay Per Call)

So why buy mobile traffic over desktop?

• Mobile traffic can be insanely cheaper. In some cases as low as 1c to 3c per click.

• Mobile traffic can lead to actions not even possible on mobile devices (like Click to Call, click to download, or carrier billing)

• Mobile traffic is perfect for selling local services, downloads, apps, and even dating services.

5 Steps to Mobile WordPress Optimization Checklist• 1. Set up a testing environment

To learn how to test your website on mobile devices you don’t own visit: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/how-to-test-wordpress-on-tablets-and-mobiles-you-dont-own/

• 2. Choose the proper themeYou can pick a responsive theme relatively easily at ThemeForest.netMake sure the menus work and they’re accessible and easy to scroll.

• 3. Add menus that are specifically used for mobile devices. To learn how to add adaptive menus visi: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/how-to-create-awesome-responsive-menu/

• 4. Make all images “Adaptive”Adaptive images are image files that are dynamically delivered and optimized for the particular device accessing the website. That means they’ll fit and won’t bog down the mobile device. https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/new-nine-adaptive-images

• 5. Install a Theme SwitcherIf you’re not using WPtouch or Jetpack you may need to install a theme switcher that changes the theme depending on the device accessing the website.https://wordpress.org/plugins/any-mobile-theme-switcher/

Mobile Users VS Desktop Users• The typical mobile user not only expects their pages to load quickly, but they expect

your site to have a mobile-friendly version.

• Mobile users searching for local services or stores are more apt to make an IMMEDIATE purchasing decision than when they’re using a desktop.

• Mobile users don’t like reading retail marketing emails on their devices, but still prefer desktops for their email. Except for iPad users, those people buy everything.

• Mobile email open rates peak on Saturday while desktops peak on Monday. Mobile shopping peaks later in the week versus desktop users as well…

• Mobile users are less likely to comparison shop from tab to tab or from window to window.

• Mobile users are also apt to taking pictures of products in stores to send pictures to family and friends.

• Mobile users are easy to track using location services and they’re more live action oriented. You can market to them while they’re attending events or shopping.

• In my experience mobile users bounce faster when coming from social media. They’re less likely to go idle than their desktop counterparts.

What is Click to Call & Pay Per Call• Imagine a call-to-action that’s literally a call-to-action. The action this time

being they actually start talking to you.

• Now imagine if you were able to track those phone calls as you’d track any other action taken from a visitor. If you were able to track phone calls to advertisers, or track and record phone calls from customers needing support.

• What makes a landing page geared towards mobile Pay-Per-Call different than one for traditional marketing? (See the next slide)

Traditional Pay-Per-Call

What to Take Away From Today• Mobile web use is only going to increase so you may want

to start building your websites with mobile in mind.

• Mobile traffic is still cheaper to buy than desktop traffic.

• Mobile users can take action even faster than desktop users, provided you give them the means to do so.

• Optimizing your WordPress website for mobile is fairly simple. Just follow the five steps I gave you.

• Even if you don’t have a product to sell you can monetize your mobile traffic. Using Mobile Ad Networks and Affiliate Marketing Networks.
