Kush and Oyuka jazz band will performtheir 3rd cover concert at 7:30 pm onFebruary 11 at, at the State PhilharmonicHall.

In late 2011 they successfully held twoconcerts–’Frank Sinatra and Diana Krall’

and ‘The Dreaming of a White Christmas’.Thanks to the many professional artistswho have contributed and performed with

Kush and Oyuka, their audiences werelled with the richness of jazz.

Their next cover concert will featuresongs by Michael Buble and JamieCullum, musicians known around theworld. Performed in a contemporarystyle, it will bring a new type of jazz tothe music scene of Mongolia.

Contributing artists are from theMongolian State Academic Theater of Opera & Ballet, the State Morin Khuur Ensemble, the Music and Dance College,and the Bayan Mongol Ensemble. The‘Nutcracker Ballet’ dance group, singer Tselmuun, Munkh-Ulzii, and solo guitaristChoijilsuren.

 N.Chinzorig, a young ballet master, organized hisrst performance of a ballet inMongolia. He graduated from theMongolian State University of Arts

and Culture in 2008; worked for three years with the State Operaand Ballet Theatre; and is studyingat the Russian University of Artsand Theatre.

On the 30th of January heorganized a performance of ‘Mirror’, a neoclassic ballet, atthe Opera and Ballet Theatre. The ballet was performed in two acts,the rst being ‘black envelopeand love’ composed by Americancomposer James Horner.

The second part consistedof examples of neoclassic,contemporary and classic ballet. State distinguishedartists B.Saruul, G.Batchimegand E.Erdenejargal played thelead roles in act one, and weresupported by dancers from theOpera and Ballet Theatre in acttwo.

A combination of classical andcontemporary styles, it was therst showing of this type of balleton stage at the Opera Theatre.

Spartacus or Spartak, is a ballet byRussian composer Aram Khachaturian,1903-1978. The work follows the exploitsof Spartacus, leader of the slave uprisingagainst the Romans known as the ThirdServile war. However, the ballet’s storyline

takes considerable liberties with historicalrecords. Khachaturian composed the balletin 1954, and this was awarded a Lenin Prizefor his work that year. With choreography by Leonid Yakobsonl, it was rst stagedin Leningrad In 1956 with only qualied

‘Mirror’ frst neoclassic ballet in Mongolia Kush and Oyuka toperorm 3rd cover concert

‘Spartacus’ to be staged at the Opera Housesuccess since Yakobson abandonedconventional Pointe in his choreography.In 1958, the ballet received its rststaging at the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow,choreographed by Igor Moiseev. However,it was the 1968 production, choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich , which achieved thegreatest acclaim for the ballet. It remainsone of Khachaturian’s best known worksand is prominent within the repertoiresof the Bolshoi Theatre and other balletcompanies in Russia and the former SovietUnion.

The Mongolian State Opera Theater is planning to present ‘Spartak’ with thesupport of the Tuguldur Foundation onFebruary 18-19, 2011. State distinguishedartists and ballerinas Kh.Mungunhulug,O.Gantsooj and M.Od will perform theleading roles.
