IntroductionWhat is energy management system

By definition, an Energy Management System (EMS) is usually a system comprise of hardware and software tools used by plant operators to monitor, control and optimize the performance of the generation, distribution, transmission and usage of electrical energy.

Needs and ROI

• Monitor / Measure and histories energy data.• Provides vital information related to patterns

and usage of energy.• Various reports related to usage of energy.• More attention towards solving problem then

gathering information.• Logic based alarms.• Maximum demand control parameters

Connectivity (Serial)

Connectivity Options• DAS servers are available for

– SATEC, L&T, Schneider Electric, Krycard meters.– Modbus Serial and TCP protocol– Siemens profibus, AB Serial and TCP and many more

supported through third party OPC servers, DDE (Wonderware-suitelink)

– Pulse output meter using PLC and high frequency counter modules.

– Database like MS-SQL or Oracle for third party system integration.

Data Acquisition Server

Basic Modules

Configurator

RDBMSMS-SQL

Single Line Diagram History Report Trends

Field meters

Server is Windows based 32 bit application which captures the Real-time information from Serial ports or OPC servers

Server capture the raw data as per configuration and identifies electrical parameters and histories them

It saves the data in MS-SQL server and publish reports to Internet Information Server.

Supports more then 250 meters in Single system only limited byServer capacity in terms of processing power, memory and harddisk.

Data Acquisition Server

Configurator helps in the configuration of locations, loops, devices, tags names , etc.,

Configure Report capturing parameters, report format, directory to Mail recipients etc.

Configurator

Configuration is ONE-Timejob and not required in normal run of system.

Schedule reports to run for automatic report Generation.

Graphics / Display (SLD)

• Mimic physical Single Line diagram

• Shows any parameter selected from

list near to meter shown.

• Status of circuit based on voltage or

current.

•Logic based alarms like power > x, pf

< +- 0.8 or frequency < 49.7 etc.

Trending of any number of parameters

Vertical and Hor.Cursor with values

Feature of Trend Client• Basic Trending of Any parameter• Tag Groups Generation as plant, group, type of EM.• Tag Selection From Tag Group• Tag List and Properties like settable min and max values• Time Bar and Selection of Time• Various Scaling of Trend View • Highlight of any tag• Real Time Mode - continuous refresh of trend on pre- defined interval of time.• Vertical and Horizontal Cursor with Time and Difference• Value Display and X-Cursor • Dynamic configuration of Background color, trend color and cursor color• Saving and Opening of Configuration to/from Disk File.• Saving of Data to File in various format i.e. html, excel• Direct selection of energy meter or energy group.

Web portal

Web Based Standard Reports• Periodic Report

– Periodic report shows the data in tabular formats.

Web Based Standard Reports

• Energy Balance report– Shows energy balance of any concentration point

in organization with import/export and loss or error.

– Shows energy balance from input / output side of transformer feeder with loss

– Provision to generate final consumption report including transmission loss and or error in metering.

Energy Balance Report

Web Based Standard Reports

• Consumption patterns– Shows pattern trend of equipment over various

period of time in year i.e. months– Shows pattern of consumption for provided

parameters with super impose of trends on each other for different selection of time duration.

– Automatic analysis of pattern and generate exception report based on history.

– Prediction of consumption in next day, week and month based on history available.

Consumption Reports

Consumption patterns

Web Based Standard Reports

• Alarm Reports– Alarms generation based on pre-defined

limits on each parameter– Viewing of alarm on graphics– Alarm Reporting on shift, daily, weekly and

monthly basis with grouping and different concerned person.

Alarm Report

Web Based Standard Reports

• Equipment Efficiency Report– Reporting of losses and consumption of particular

equipment.– Other plant data like production data can also be

available for comparison through OPC other standard connectivity methods.

Efficiancy Report

Web Based Standard Reports

• Billing Report– Possibility to enter billing information.– Can generate bills based on meter readings on

predefined intervals i.e. daily or monthly bases.– Generate summary report with highest and lowest

consumer, best PF etc.

Notification Systems

• Email- Lotus notes, outlook, SMTP/pop3• Windows messenger• Pager or PA system (Custom module)• SMS• Phone calls with confirmation of receiving.• Relay contact for other system to take action

based on some parameters i.e. stop some equipment etc. (Special module)

Third Party Integration

• Acts as OPC server to provide vital information to other system like plat wide historian.

• Acts as ODBC server to provide data to any ODBC client.

• SAP connectivity to download/upload billing information.

• Export to xml or csv file to provide data to any other system

Features and benifits

• Centralized monitoring thorough client software provides SLD and trends.

• Rule based logical alarm system to generate alerts and reduce the energy consumption or risk in operation.

• Calculated tag support for scripting.• Custom reports can be build by user

themselves.

Security Levels

• Guest – for Web access to reports• OPR- for console with only access to EMS• Mgr- for remote access to AIMS and Server

Startup and Shutdown• Admin-Configuration Access

Perfect solution for monitoring, reporting and long term historyof energy related data.

Easiest way to full fill all needs of Energy management system with open architecture.
