BUILDING IN CONCRETE

Page 4: Monocast in NZ

Lightweight Aluminium Formwork Panels that are …

Page 5: Monocast in NZ

Super fast and efficient to erect

Page 6: Monocast in NZ

With no limitation to what can be built ….

Page 7: Monocast in NZ

These specialised aluminium form panels aremade in the USA and are supplied to over 40countries world wide.

This system will be marketed in NZ asMONOCAST.

The Monocast system has been re-engineeredand modified specifically to meet the very highstandards of the NZ Building Code andRegulations.

In almost every aspect the Monocast system willexceed the requirements of the NZ BuildingCode .

A superior building system that can be used to build …..

• Faster

• More Cost Effective

• Achieves Superior Quality

• Allows for greater innovation

Building in Concrete using the Monocast Systemis :

Page 16: Monocast in NZ

• Warmer

• Quieter

• More sustainable

• Environmentally friendlier

• Cosier – more stable temperature

• Dryer – can never leak

• Reduced maintenance costs.

A Home built using the Monocast process will be :

A Home built using the Monocast system can be moreinnovative :

Faster to Build

Why use Monocast

Exterior / Interior Wall

• The formwork for a 220m2 house canbe erected in 1 day.

• The Walls can be poured late in thesame day - Concrete Companies will welcome

this as this spreads their peak morning demandsand gives them an additional work volume.

• When the forms are taken down thewall is smooth enough to paint. Level5 finish.

More Cost Effective – Less Holding Costs

Student Accommodation Block inJamaica

• This 6 Storey Student AccommodationBlock the structure was completed in 7Weeks.

• The fit out and finishing took another 5weeks.

Why use Monocast

Page 20: Monocast in NZ

Form Work

• The formwork can be re-used up to 1000times.

• The cost to reuse these formsdramatically reduces the cost to Build.

• Providing the plans are drawn within100mm modulations, the formwork costbecomes insignificant.

Cheaper to Build

Why use Monocast

Page 21: Monocast in NZ

Structurally Sound and WaterProof

• The 30mpa self levelling concrete iswaterproof.

• Exterior can be textured and painted or aform liner can make the concrete looklike bricks or weatherboards.

• Wet areas require no preparatory work.Simply cement the tiles directly to theconcrete walls or floors.

No more ‘leaky buildings’.

Why use Monocast

Page 22: Monocast in NZ

Superior FinishConcrete Walls

• Aside from the fact that all the walls areconcrete, they are by their very naturefar more durable.

• Unless you tap the wall you cannot tell ifthe wall is concrete or plasterboard.

• A more superior quality finish can beachieved.

• The walls are more true and achieve alevel 5 finish.

Why use Monocast

Page 23: Monocast in NZ

A Monocast House is Warmer

• A 50mm Polystyrene Insulation barrieris completely encased in the exteriorwall and is unbroken the entireperimeter of the exterior wall.

• A Monocast Exterior wall has acalculated R value considerably greaterthan the minimum required for thebuilding code of R1.62.

Warmer

Why use Monocast

Page 24: Monocast in NZ

Can achieve zero ratedthermally efficiency

A Monocast House is Quieter

The ability of a wall to block or transmit noiseis measured by its STC rating. The better the(wall) system in preventing the transmissionof noise the higher its STC rating.

• The Building Code now requires aminimum STC rating of 55 for wallsseparating different tenancies.

• A Monocast wall within a house achievesthis STC rating between rooms.

The STC rating is calculated by evaluating the sound transmissionreduction over a series of frequencies between 125 and 4000 hertz. This frequency band is appropriate for speech, however the real benefit ofconcrete occurs in its ability to effectively reduce the transmission of low

frequency noise such as the base frequencies of music.

Quieter

Why use Monocast

Page 26: Monocast in NZ

Thermal Mass / CosierThermal Stability

• Concrete has a High Mass and has theability to absorb heat and then re-radiate it back into the room at a latertime thus a Monocast house will be :

• Cooler in Summer….. and

• Warmer in Winter.

• This results in a more comfortableliving environment without largeswings in temperature.

Why use Monocast

Page 27: Monocast in NZ

Cost less to maintain

Whole of life costs reduced

• Concrete is very durable and cantake a lot of punishment.

• For tenanted properties the cost tomaintain is significantly reduced.

Why use Monocast

Page 28: Monocast in NZ

Great designers such Frank Lloyd Wright isknown for his work with classic concrete inboth interiors and exteriors, but a newgeneration of designers is now starting toexperiment with the material in differentforms.

The Monocast form now provides a costeffective way of achieving greater designand flexibility at a cost that is nowaffordable.

Why use Monocast

Greater Design Opportunities

Innovation in Design

Elaine Toogood is an architect with TheConcrete Centre, a UK body that advisesarchitects on the use of concrete.

“It is the perfect material as it needsnothing added to it. It can be thestructure, the final finish, it can bepolished or coloured. It is so durable, lowmaintenance and provides good soundand fire insulation,”

“It is definitely becoming morefashionable”

Why use Monocast

So why use the Monocast process.Because it is Fast – Efficient – Cost Effective –Sustainable – Superior Quality.

Volume / Group Build

Compass Homes are volume buildersworking from a large range of standardplans. It rarely builds with client suppliedplans preferring to work within the VolumeBuilders framework of Standard Plans,Systemisation and Bulk Buying.

The Monocast process will now be availablethrough Compass Homes where the clientcan now have a choice of a traditional buildor a MonoCast Build.Compass Homes offer• Full Range of Standard Plans• Traditional Build process or Monocast• Affordable• Quicker Build Times

Architectural Build

Admire Homes is being set up New Zealandwide via a network of “Licensed’ buildingcompanies.

Admire Homes will only be able to build usingthe Monocast process but as a result willdevelop an expertise enabling concrete tobecome a more mainstream building product.

Innovation in design will become one of thehallmarks of an Admire Home especiallywhen the build cost will be comparable toconventional build costs.

• Full range of Architect drawn plansdeveloped around the style and flairof the 5 partner Architects
