VERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ

Food Minimum

The Austin Club has a quarterly (every three months) food minimum. The food minimum spending policy covers all food purchases at breakfast, lunch and dinner. During your quarter, based on the first initial of

your last name, $75.00 in food purchases must be posted to your membership account (alcoholic beverages and to go orders do not apply). Any amount less than $75.00 in food purchases throughout

your quarter will be billed to your account as unspent food minimum.

All monthly billing runs from the 26th of the month to the 25th of the following month.

Pre-payment of Minimum During the months of December and January (through February 15th) of each year, all members

may elect to prepay the yearly food minimum ($300.00). By doing so, you will no longer be obligated to the quarterly $75.00 food minimum. You have the option to spend the prepaid

amount of $300.00 at any time throughout the year up to December 22nd of that year.

Capital Improvement Fund

The membership of the Austin Club unanimously voted to establish the Capital Improvement Fund in 2008. The annual billing of $96.00 will appear on your June/July statement. These funds are restricted to

capital related repairs, replacement of furniture, equipment or redecorating.

Any new member joining after the July billing will be billed a one time prorated amount of $8.00 per month for the remaining months up to the following annual June/July billing.

i.e. Join in September, September to June = 10 months. 10 months X $8.00 = $80.00.

The Capital Improvement Fund will appear on your first month’s statement.

General Billing Information

All monthly dues are billed in advance and all food, beverage and misc. charges are billed after the fact. The monthly cut off for all charges is the 25th of the month with statements being sent on approximately

the 27th of each month. All payments are due by the 15th of each month.

Austin Club Ghost Stories We all know there's no such thing as ghosts, right? Tell that to some of the club's staff and members, especially when they close up at night. A building 120 years old is bound to have some unexplained creaks and groans. After all, thousands of members, guests and employees have passed through these doors since The Austin Club moved here in 1980. And many thousands before that, since the Millett Opera House was built in 1878. Lily Langtry, William Jennings Bryan, Edwin Booth, John Phillip Sousa are just some who entertained turn-of-the-century Texans. More contemporary stars have included Heather Locklear, Peter Strauss, and Farrah Fawcett. But we digress. This Halloween story is about The Third Floor Ghost, affectionately dubbed "Priscilla." No documentation has been found, but legend has it that she was a heartbroken actress (some say opera singer) who threw herself to her death from the rafters of the opera house over a hundred years ago. Several employees and members have seen, or felt, her. As the staff closes up at night, Priscilla rides the elevators. No one else is in the building. Mischievous, she likes to pull all of the curtains out of the tie-backs. One longtime employee reports that when exiting the elevator to the third floor, a powerful force flipped the plate he was carrying onto the carpet. The room was ice-cold, and something or someone pushed past him and spun him around. What does the ghost look like? The few who have seen her describe a flowing white or black gown, accented by a huge gold medallion around her neck. A distraught lobbyist once ran downstairs after hosting a fundraiser on the third floor. "I saw her! I saw the ghost!" he swore. He had not been drinking. Are ghosts part of the rich heritage of The Austin Club and Millett Opera House, or is this all just coincidence?
