Dr. L. Lane Collins,

Senior Pastor

Following a Sunday morning service, a young boy suddenly announced to his mother, "Mom, I’ve decided to become a minister when I grow up." "That’s okay with me, Tommy, but what made you decide that?" "Well," said the little boy, "I have to go to church on Sunday anyway, and I figure it will be more fun to stand up and yell, than to sit and listen." Throughout Zion’s history, many of her members have “sat and listened” to God’s voice and have then made their decision to “stand up and yell” about their faith in Christ on the Mission field! So, “Why Do We Go?”

Approximately 750 years before the Incarnation of Christ, Isaiah came face-to-face with a vision concern-ing his obedience to God’s call. This was a sad time for Israel because King Uzziah had just died. With grief in his heart, Isaiah makes his way to the temple to seek the comfort of God’s presence. And what he saw there (Isaiah 6:1-9) humbled his heart and transformed his life!

I. Isaiah’s Compelling Confrontation (vv. 1-5) … Isaiah saw the glory and the holiness of the Lord. He also saw the truth about himself and his culture clearly in contrast to God’s transcendent purity.

II. Isaiah’s Cleansing Comprehension (vv. 6-8) … The vision compelled Isaiah to make a personal commitment. He wasn’t just going to “sit and listen” anymore; he was going to “stand and proclaim” his obedience to God. As a result, Isaiah was cleansed, his sins were forgiven, and he was commissioned.

III. Isaiah’s Courageous Call (v. 9) … God beckoned Isaiah to “Go, and tell this people” (Israel), and Isaiah embraced God’s command and answered His call!

So, how does Isaiah’s obedience apply to us? Three reasons:

#1. We Go Because God Exists … Notice that Isaiah is not the center of this vision, God is. We go be-cause of God—His compelling glory, His absolute purity, and His undying love.

#2. We Go Because Needs Arise … If we have the heart and mind of Christ, we will have a burden for people separated from God and His redemption. Why? Because God gives us His perspective!

#3. We Go Because Obedience Calls … God’s call is powerful, passionate, and personal, and none more direct than that which is found in the Great Commission!

The Great Commission Offering (GCO) will be voted on in Conference on Sunday, September 15, at 7:00 pm. The final “GCO Town Hall Meeting” will be held Sunday, August 18, at 4:30 pm in the Worship Center. Plan to attend and answer God’s call!

Good morning. I would like to thank all of the wonderful, caring people at Zion who prayed for me during my recent hospitalization. It was truly heartwarming to learn that a prayer was offered on my behalf at the breakfast and again at church. I re-ceived the kind letter from the church members to let me know I had been prayed over again. I truly believe God uses the prayers of others in His healing plan. Please pass on my most sincere thanks to everyone. I am recovered and have been back at school for a few days. I'm very grateful to be here on the first day with students as well! Thank you, thank you, thank you ! — Ms. Jo Ellen Anderson

********************************************************************* To My Amazing Prayer Warriors, I just want to thank you fo your prayers for me fol-lowing my recent accident. I have felt every prayer and can tell you with all certainty that your prayers have greatly impacted my healing. I am so grateful to you all and your faith in the power of prayer! He is worthy! -Love, Hollie Peek (daughter of Clint & Rhonda Free) ********************************************************************* A great big thank you to Bill Buckley and Dwain Fleming for coming to my house and cleaning my gutters. I’m glad we have men that will help the widows. I was going to try to do It myself and Dwain said “No”. Bill I hope your knee is ok. -Thanks again, Nora Cooper ********************************************************************* Dear Zion Family– We thank you all for the many calls, cards, prayers, fruit basket, and visits during Roberts illness. He struggled very hard, especially this last year and your thoughts and prayers brought him great joy. Robert loved this church family and truly missed being able to be with you each week. Thank you also for the wonderful meal provided by my family following his service on Sunday. It is wonderful to be blessed by the love of so many. Please continue to lift our family in prayer in the days and months ahead. -In Christ, Cindy Sherrer and Family ********************************************************************* Dear ZBC Family, We just wanted to thank you so much for all the calls, text messag-es, cards, and prayers during my Mom’s sickness and passing. It really meant a lot to us during this very difficult time. -Sincerely, Sharon and Gary Brown
