Greetings Greyhound Nation,
Great things are happening at LPA. First, I would like to recognize those students who participated in the Regional Science Fair, Project Citizen and Young Floridian. A total of 63 students participated in this year’s regional fair, of which two students qualified for the International Science Fair and eight students qualified for State Science Fair. Students participating in Project Citizen took two of the three top categories during the competition and will be representing LPA at the state level. As for Young Floridian, we had two students garner the Young Floridian Award for the following categories respectively: Academic Excellence and Academies/Certifications/Manufacturing. Congratulations to all our students and to all our teachers and counselors who helped prepare them for these competitive events! I would also like to congratulate our Girls Basketball team for winning the district championship. Way to go Lady Greyhounds!
Spring break will be from March 18 through March 22. As we return from a well-deserved break, I would like remind everyone the key to our students’ success is to remain focused. Therefore, I ask that you ensure your child comes to school regularly and arrives on time. The more students are in school, the higher their achievement.
There are many other exciting happenings taking place this month, such as Spring sports and Performing Arts activities. Baseball, softball, tennis and track and field are in full swing. I invite you all to come out and support our student athletes as they demonstrate their athletic talents. Both the players and coaches would appreciate your support. For the 11th consecutive year, the drama department’s Thespian Troupe #6958 will be traveling to Tampa to participate in state-level competition at the State Thespian Festival March 20-23. We wish them all the very best of luck.
Many of you should have received notification of our adjusted bell schedule, which will go into effect on Monday, March 4th. The change only impacts transition times between classes. This will allow for additional transition time between “A” and “B” lunches and minimize the amount of down time for students in between classes. High School PE students will be released one minute prior to the bell, so they will have adequate time to travel from the gymnasium to the high school building. This change will not impact instructional time. A copy of the schedule is included in this month’s newsletter. You should have also received notification about our upcoming SAT testing day, which will be on Wednesday, March 6th for all juniors.
Lastly, a brief reminder about the upcoming referendum. SLPS is appealing to you, the voters for a one mill referendum for our students, for our teachers, for our community, and for our future. The referendum is only for four years. The funds will be used to increase teacher pay to recruit and retain high quality teachers; improve school security; expand mental health services; and preserve/fund important school programs. March 25th is the deadline to register to vote regarding the referendum. Learn more about the referendum by visiting www.stlucieschools.org.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Parents, if your son or daughter has to leave school before 1:34pm, please send a note to school with your child containing the following information:
1)Child’s name 2)Time leaving
3)Who is picking the child up
4)A phone number where you can be reached
Please remind your child to take the note to the front desk first thing in the morning so the information can be verified. Sending a note with your
child will not only help the teachers plan accordingly, but it will also help you as it will reduce the amount of waiting time when you come to pick up
your child. PLEASE ALSO KEEP IN MIND, students under the age of 18 are NOT permitted to sign themselves out of school for any reason, even if
they have a signed note. A parent/guardian must physically sign the student out of school.
Please also remember, any time you come to pick up your child from school, BRING A PICTURE I.D. with you.
As a reminder: students should not be dropped off in the morning prior to 6:45am, as we do not have adequate supervision on the campus
until that time. This is a safety/supervision concern and we would appreciate everyone’s adherence to this request.
The LPA Key Club meets the first Wednesday of every month at the Cafeteria at 2:00 PM. Transportation arrangements must be made. There is no activities school bus this year.

Mr. Weed’s seventh graders completed their English MYP lesson to
perfection!
March is the time for our testing window to begin blossoming into full bloom. It also gives us the opportunity for our students to show off what they have learned.
Seniors and Eighth graders enrolled in Florida Virtual School classes who need the credits for graduation, will need to have all coursework completed and the grade posted by Wednesday, May 1.
All students who are planning to take Dual Enrollment classes for the first time, either Summer 1 and/or Summer 2, will need to have taken the PERT (placement test) at Indian River State College prior to the open registration date. Indian River State College has not posted their registration dates at this time. The registration window usually begins March 30. Dates will be announced as soon as they become available!

Seniors, please turn in all letters of college acceptance, whether you plan to attend or not to Mrs. Salvador, Guidance Clerk, front office. All scholarship award letters should be given to Mrs. Jensen, room 207.

Drivers Ed
Does your child want to get their drivers license this summer but you cringe at the thought of teaching them to drive? Sign them up for the
FREE Driver’s Ed class that begins April 4th and ends May 16th. This is the last drivers ed class until the beginning of school next year. As
always, this is first come, first serve so you need to sign up NOW if you would like your son/daughter to take the class.
Through A Treasure Coast Driving School your child receives attention and help with confusing on the road questions; they get on the road
instruction specifically geared to make them a cautious and safe driver; and they are taught by teachers that have a heart to see your child
excel and be the best driver they can be.
Remember, most insurance companies will give a discount for students who have taken our drivers ed course and a discount will definitely
help when its time for your son/daughter to get their drivers license!!!

Visit AtreasureCOASTdrivingSCHOOL.com. Just click on the white sign that says, “Drivers Ed At My School” and go to the LPA school
link. You may see something that says there are only 21 seats but do not let that discourage you. If a student does not show up the first day,
they automatically lose their seat so even if you are #50, your child may still have a good chance of being accepted.

Two groups led by Ms. Alaina Moise & Ms. Tamara Lindo represented Lincoln Park Academy in the Project Citizen Showcase at IRSC on

8th Grade News
8th grade graduation portraits will be taken on March 27th & March 28th. Please adhere to the
following dress code:
Gentlemen are encouraged to wear dress shirts & ties. Ladies may wear dressy blouses or outfits, or if
you prefer, dresses. Dresses and underlays must touch your kneecaps when standing straight. Dresses
and blouses with jewel neckline are suitable. All attire must be in dress code. Pictures will be taken
during your History class period.
Cheerleading try-outs will be held for high school girls on May 24, 2019 from 2:00pm - 3:30pm. If you will be in 9th - 12th grade next school year, you are eligible to try-out. We will begin conditioning every Monday beginning on April 1st from 2:00pm - 3:30pm. We look forward to having a terrific team and showing our proud Greyhound spirit!!!
