Senior Citizens Council of Delhi celebrated its 37th Annual Day at Deer Park on 05/06/2016 in which more than 500 senior citizens participated. In the beginning, Sunder Kand Path was recited by Shri Rastogi and party (Preet Vihar) in the memory of late Mataji Asha Rani Sehgal on her 9th death anniversary. Mrs. Anima Sinha an eminent singer also recited bhajans. Justice Devinder Gupta, former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court was the Chief Guest. 21 students of class 10th and 12th who scored more than 90% marks in CBSE Examination 2016 were also felicitated with certificates of merit by the Chief Guest. Out of 21, 3 students scored 100% marks in class 10th. Their names are Muskan Gouchhwal, Navneet Gupta and Ratan Jyoti Gandhi. Shri S.S.Monty, was also felicitated with memento and a shawl on his election as

Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organized International Elders Day celebrations on 01/10/2016 at Green Fields School, Safdarjung Enclave between 07:00 pm and 09:00 pm followed by dinner in which more than 900 senior citizens participated. A cultural programme was also organized by eminent artists in association with I.C.C.R. which was appreciated by all present. Dr. Prateek Teotia from Center for Sight delivered a talk on eye care. Shri Manish Sisodia, Dy. Chief Minister, Delhi Govt. was the Chief Guest, Shri Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) was the Special Guest. Shri Somnath Bharti, Area MLA was the Guest of Honor. While welcoming the Chief Guest, J.R.Gupta, briefed him about affiliation of registered 125 SCAs with Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi ( an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens) and requested him to convene a meeting with the Confederation members to implement the demands already agreed to in minutes of meetings dated 11/01/2016 and 27/07/2016 in the Chamber of the then Social Welfare Minister. - Contd. on page 3 with more photos
A State Level Delhi Police Advisory Body meeting was held at Delhi Police headquarters under the Chairmanship of Shri Ravindra Yadav, I.P.S.,Joint Commissioner of Police( Crime) on 21/09/2016 to discuss Safety and Security of senior citizens, identification & registration of senior citizens living alone, conduction of security audit, creation of awareness about the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 and Role of Senior Citizens Associations in the safety and security of senior citizens. Eminent senior citizens across Delhi participated along with D.C.P. level officers of all the Districts including Traffic Police. On behalf of Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi ( an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens), J.R. Gupta, Chairperson, attended the meeting who raised vital issues concerning senior citizens . He offered his full support for holding a big conclave of senior citizens to create awareness about the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 which was appreciated by the Chairman and assured to convey the date in due course. - Contd. at page 3

Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi (an umbrella body of 11 lakh senior citizens) held its quarterly meeting of Governing Body, on 25.09.2016, which was hosted by Sh. Y.N. Sharma, President & his team of Kalkaji Senior Citizens Forum. The meeting commenced with Gayatri Mantra. Sh. Y.N. Sharma welcomed all the members & briefed about various activities being organized for its members throughout the year in its recreation center having two rooms, which were appreciated by all present. Sh. B.S. Yadav, Secretary General also welcomed the members. J.R. Gupta, Chairperson briefed about pending issues concerning senior citizens particularly non payment of Old Age pension & recreation grant by Social Welfare Department in spite of decisions taken & recorded in the minutes of meeting held with the then Social Welfare Minister on 11.01.2016 & 27.07.2016. He further assured the members that he will meet Sh. Manish Sisodia, Dy. Chief Minister, Delhi Govt. who has been assigned additional charge of Social Welfare Minister in due course for arranging meeting of Social Welfare Department Officers in his chamber with the Confederation Members so that recreation grants could be released as early as possible.

Bharti welcomed all members and guests, Gayatri Mantra was recited 3 times and then homage paid to all passed away members in the last quarter as well as the soldiers were killed by terrorist at URI by observing 2 minutes silence. Shri Sisodia assured the senior citizens present to consider their demands by calling a meeting of Confederation members in due course. He also announced that Delhi Govt has increased the number of Old Age Pension beneficaries from 3.80 lakh to 4.80 lakh with effect from 01/10/2016, which was appreciated by all present. He also felicitated eminent senior citizens who are working for the cause and care of elderly across Delhi. He also released Souvenir 2016-17 containing useful information for the senior citizens & telephone directory to enable them to contact each other around the clock . The Chief Guest was felicitated with a Pagdi, shawl and a memento by J.R.Gupta and other members . .Shri Sisiodia also appreciated the various initiatives of the Council for the cause and care of Elderly particularly protecting lonely senior citizens from
abuses/humiliations from their own children and others. Shri Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner Police (Crime) also addressed the audience and briefed about remedial measures being taken by Delhi Police for the safety of life & property of senior citizens including launching of new App for senior citizens by LG Delhi on the occassion of International Day of Older persons on 01/10/2016. Shri Somnath Bharti, Area MLA, also addressed the audience. Shri A.K. Roy, ACP & Shri S.C. Verma, SHO were also present. J.R. Gupta, thanked all the guests and members, particularly Green Fields School for the availability of the premises to hold various functions of the Council from time to time. The members present also pointed out about the traffic problems including encroachments in their respective colonies. Shri J.R. Gupta also raised the issue regarding encroachments of service lane facing Africa Avenue, Safdarjung Enclave by Mahindra Car Showroom, old car dealers and Nova Hospital and even the residents have to wait sometime for hours due to congestion of traffic in the service lane in spite of complaints to local traffic police. He further, asked to the need of traffic signal on Harsukh Marg, just opposite to B-5 gate of Deer Park as the morning/evening walkers including senior citizens, children and women are feeling inconvenient while crossing the road and has to wait for long time to cross the road as the traffic on the road is very heavy as such, it is very difficult to enter in the Deer Park. He further informed that the Council organized a special interaction session with Shri Alok Kumar Verma, Commissioner of Police on 10/04/2016 at Deer Park in which more than 800 senior citizens across Delhi participated followed by another interaction session with South District Police on 11/06/2016 at Green Fields School, Safdarjung Enclave in which Shri R.P. Upadhyaya Joint CP Southern and Eastern Range was present. He also shown his concern about the number of Senior Citizens registered by Delhi Police, as more than 1 lakh Senior Citizens across Delhi are residing alone and needs its awareness also. The beat Constables should also visit lonely Senior Citizens at least twice in a week regularly. The members also suggested to have monthly meetings at SHO Level and after every 3 months at the level of DCP regularly. After hearing the views of all the members, Shri Ravindra Yadav, assured to take remedial measures to address their grievances/ suggestions in due course. He further agreed to address the senior citizens for creating awareness of Parents Act,2007 on 01/10/2016 on the invitation from Council. On behalf of Delhi Police , it was also conveyed that any lonely Senior Citizen who wants to get registered can do the same by filling the form online or call Help Line Number 1291. AGM of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi on 01/10/2016at Green Fields School, Safdarjung Enclave.
Annual General Body Meeting of Senior Citizens Council of Delhi held on 01/10/2016 at 05:30pm in Green Fields School, Safdarjung Enclave under the Chairmanship of its President, J.R. Gupta in which more than 300 members participated. The meeting commenced with Ganesh Vandana by Mrs. Satya Devi Verma. Shri L.R. Garg, Secretary read the names of members who expired during last year and 2 minutes silence was observed for their souls to rest in peace. J.R. Gupta, President of the Council welcomed all members present. The General Body took a note of a report of Secretary on various activities held during the last year from 01/10/2015 to 30/09/2016 already printed in Souvenir 2016-17, which was appreciated by all present. The AGM ratified and adopted its Income & Expenditure Account and balance sheet as on 31/03/2016 (printed in Souvenir 2016-17) by a majority of members present. Shri D. P. Rupal, Executive Member expressed his unwillingness to continue as he has to go to Bhopal for personal work and requested to assign his duties to some other member. Considering his request, J. R. Gupta, President nominated Shri Gyan Singh Tokas in his place from 01/04/2017 to 31//03/2018 and Shri Rupal agreed to continue till 31/03/2017. Social Welfare Dept. has now asked for a resolution from AGM of Council immediately after the finalization of its Balance Sheet every year . To meet with the aforesaid requirements, it was unanimously approved by the General Body that hence forth AGM would be convened in the month of May every year from 2017 & onwards instead of AGM being held on every 1st October. Shri J.R.Gupta was also requested to announce the afore said decision in the daily activities center at Deer Park. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair and the Green Fields School followed by refreshments by Shri Ramesh Aggarwal, Vice President. - A report by L. R. Garg. Secretary
