Monthly Performance Report of Singareni Colleries (SCCL) for the month of March Highlights: Coal production in March 2008 was 3.416 million tonnes as against the target of 3.192 million tonnes with an achievement of 107%. Annual coal production is 40.608 m.t against the target of 38.048 m.t, which represents 108% achievement. Company despatched 3.581 million tonnes against 3.192 million tonnes target with an achievement of 112%. Company achieved 14.608 million cu.mtrs of overburden (OB) removal against the target of 18.507 million cu.mtrs representing 75% achievement. The shortfall in O.B. excavation is mainly on account of delay in acquisition of Forest Land at Koyagudem OC-II and PK OC-II at Manuguru. However, Koyagudem OC-II Over Burden extraction will commence in April 2008. Capacity utilization during the month was 115% as against the target of 108%. The productivity in terms of overall Output Per Manshift (O.M.S.) was 2.90 tonnes while the target was 2.74 tonnes. UG mines productivity is 1.12 Tonnes thereby achieving 100% target. Company achieved Rs. 189.64 Crores Provisional profit (after tax) up to March 2008 against the target of 78.22 Crores, this corresponds to an achievement of 242%. The Plan expenditure during March 2008 is Rs.145.68 Crores as against the target of Rs.74.12 Crores. Annual Plan expenditure is Rs.485.42 Crores. 2007-08 is strike free year in the known history of the Company. There are 30 on-going projects in the Company as on 31 st March 2008, which are being closely monitored to ensure their completion as per schedule'.

Monthly Performance Report of Singareni Colleries (SCCL) for the month of March

Highlights:

Coal production in March 2008 was 3.416 million tonnes as against the target of 3.192 million tonnes with an achievement of 107%. Annual coal production is 40.608 m.t against the target of 38.048 m.t, which represents 108% achievement.

Company despatched 3.581 million tonnes against 3.192 million tonnes target with an achievement of 112%.

Company achieved 14.608 million cu.mtrs of overburden (OB) removal against the target of 18.507 million cu.mtrs representing 75% achievement. The shortfall in O.B. excavation is mainly on account of delay in acquisition of Forest Land at Koyagudem OC-II and PK OC-II at Manuguru. However, Koyagudem OC-II Over Burden extraction will commence in April 2008.

Capacity utilization during the month was 115% as against the target of 108%.

The Plan expenditure during March 2008 is Rs.145.68 Crores as against the target of Rs.74.12 Crores. Annual Plan expenditure is Rs.485.42 Crores.

2007-08 is strike free year in the known history of the Company.

There are 30 on-going projects in the Company as on 31st March 2008, which are being closely monitored to ensure their completion as per schedule'.

Production:

SCCL has achieved a record production of 40.60 Million Tonnes (MT) in theFY 2007-08. This is the highest ever production achieved by SCCL in its 119 yearhistory. The Company for the Sixth consecutive year has achieved the coal productiontargets after a spectacular turn around since 2002-03. The coal production haswitnessed a growth rate of 8% over the previous year, while that of at the national levelis 4.7%.

There has been a significant growth in production from underground mines.During the Year, UG Mines achieved a growth rate of 6.48% over the previous year.

Productivity:

The overall productivity levels achieved are also the best ever. The company'sproductivity (OMS) in 2007-08 has been 2.63 tonnes with a growth rate of 10% overthe year 2006-07. It is heartening to note that UG mines productivity at Company levelcrossed the psychological barrier of One ton per man shift and reached 1.02, with agrowth rate of 13% over the previous year. The year has been spectacular in thehistory of Underground mining as the cost of production of Underground mining wasreduced by Rs.150/- per tonne of coal, there by reducing the losses from UG minessubstantially.

Safety:

.:. The Company has achieved a marked improvement to obtain safe production. Inyear 2007-08 the total number of fatal accidents decreased to 11 from that of 19 inthe year 2006-07. The safety of U/G Mines has been at the very best with only 3fatalities in the year 2007-08 as against 17 fatalities in the year 2006-07 .

•:. Company procured 142 Roof Bolters to facilitate timely roof support and enhancesafety in UG mines.

Customer satisfaction:

The company has achieved an all time record in coal dispatches. The companydispatched 41.79 MT of coal during 2007-08. Of this 71.4% of coal has beendispatched to power sector (29.84 MT).

Coal dispatches to APGENCO Power Stations stood at 11.21 MT, against aFSA quantity of 10.08 MT at a satisfaction rate of 111%. The supplies to theAPGENCO power houses have increased by 19.74 % over the previous year.

Coal supplies to NTPC have touched a satisfaction rate of 107% during thisfinancial year.

Industrial Relations:

Year 2007-08 has been a "Strike Free Year" in the annals of the company History.

SCCL has set up a record of 16 strike free months since December 2006. SCCL has

successfully conducted the Trade Union Elections for the fourth consecutive time

during August 2007.

E-auction of coal: Coal distribution through e-auction has been introduced in SCCL

from 27th November 2007 to facilitate consumers across the country to book the Coal

on line through simple transparent and consumer friendly system of marketing and

distribution of coal. During 2007-08, 10.05 LT of coal has been e-auctioned.

Opening of New Mines:

.:. One new green field OC project (Dorli OC-I) was inaugurated in the year 2007-08 .

•:. In order to give the committed coal supply of One Million Tonnes of coal to theAPGENCO, 500 MW Bhupalpalli Power House from March 2009, SCCL will beopening up Kakatiya Khani OC Mine by converting one of its Underground mine atBhupalpalli area .

•:. Coal production from two new mines, viz., Bellampalli OC-II Extension project andSrirampur OC-I has reached to the full production capacity during this year.

Business Development & Diversification:.:. SCCL is planning to set up 500 MW Power Plant in Jaipur mandai of Adilabad

district.

.:. SCCL is planning to acquire the SMS Explosives plant located at Godavarikhaniand Manuguru in SCCL coalfield from Mis IBP for ensuring continuous supply ofExplosives for its mining operations in view of the globally fluctuating raw materialprices and disruption in explosive supplies .

•:. SCCL consultancy services for preparation of Mining plans, Project feasibilityreports, Environmental management plans and also as an Independent MineOperator are made available for interested parties.

Employee Welfare:

.:. SCCL has completed construction of 2,955 employee quarters against a target of4,717 houses with an estimated capital of Rs. 219.25 Crores .

•:. SCCL has proposed to start a novel "OWN YOUR HOUSE PROGRAMME" for itsemployees working at its new Sattupalli mining area .

•:. Company progressively introduced 38 Manriding systems in 33 UG mines to avoiddrudgery of walking by the employees .

•:. SCCL is establishing full-fledged Polytechnic Institute at Srirampur in AdilabadDist., considering the technical manpower needs of the nation. Management quotaof 50% of the total seats in this institute will be offered to children of companyemployees through a Common Entrance Test conducted by Board of TechnicalEducation, Govt. of A.P.

Initiatives in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

• SCCL has taken up a novel initiative for the benefit of the Villagers & PAPsof neighbouring habitats of Manuguru Coal Mining area by way ofconducting a "MEGA MEDICAL CAMP" at Manuguru on 2nd February, 2008with 25 Super Specialty Doctors from NIMS. About 1200 persons wereexamined and about 572 persons were taken up for specialist diagnostictests at Manuguru. About 52 members were given follow up treatment atHyderabad, out of which 4 members were operated on heart ailments .

• Further, SCCL is donating a "Hospital on Wheels" to NIMS to continue thisinitiative in the years to come.

AWARDS:SCCL teams have bagged 1st and 3rd positions in All India Mines RescueCompetitions held at Mahendragarh (Chattisgarh) in 2008 organised by DirectorGeneral of Mines Safety, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India. This is the 3rd time insequence that Company has won the 1st prize in these national competitions.

Mis. KOPEX stated that they would depute one or two experts tocollect first hand information with participation of SCCL, so as tosubmit a proposal to develop two deep shaft projects on theconcept of Risk / Gain sharing. SCCL welcomed the proposal.

SCCL has identified two shaft blocks namely RG Shaft Block-II &Shanti Khani Extension (Phase-II). FRs of both the projects arecompleted.

February, 2007 for data collection, discussions etc. as per theagreement. They have submitted their report.

- CSIRO Team of four officers has made their scheduled visit toSCCL from 23-09-2007 to 03-10-2007 for discussion as part ofthe agreement.

Co - Manufacturing of Spare Parts:The Chinese side supported the idea of Co-manufacturing spareparts in India. They are finding it difficult to locate a partner inIndia because of current limited market size. The two sides agreedto continue efforts in this direction.

Joint review on status of longwalls supplied by CME:-

Both sides agreed not to pursue this matter further.

Extraction of pillars developed by Bord & Pillar by longwallsequipment :-

Longwall Mining in Deep Seated Reserves :-The Chinese side briefed about the present status of deep miningin China. The average mining depth in China is around 450 m. andthe maximum is around 1200 m. The Chinese side has experiencenot only in this technology but also in equipment manufacturingwith in China. They agreed to participate in the bidding.
