WHS CONTRACT FOR PLAY PRODUCTIONS – return to Mrs. Landrum

I understand that there are specific goals for every rehearsal and attendance is expected. There are no excused rehearsals* and if I have to miss due to illness or schedule conflict I will contact one of the directors as soon as possible. It is highly likely that whatever I miss, will not be repeated and if I miss too many times, I might actually “miss my way out” of the production.

*I understand that this is the best way to make sure all actors and technicians are given equal consideration. I won’t be out of the show…just out of whatever I missed.

I understand that an absence from school due to illness, even if the absence is excused, may prevent me from participating in rehearsal and/or performance, unless permission is granted by a director. Students running a fever are not permitted at rehearsals.

I will not use my involvement in the show as an excuse for missing an academic class or failing to complete class work.

I understand the “no tolerance” policy regarding the use of drugs and alcohol and agree not to use drugs or alcohol during my participation in the play. Any violation will result in the prescribed school consequences and removal from the show.

I understand that attendance at all rehearsals and performances is essential for successful and meaningful ensemble collaboration.

According to my designated position within the ensemble, whether performer or technical crew, I agree to participate fully, meet deadlines, work cooperatively, and demonstrate a good attitude.

By signing this contract, I indicate that I am willing to abide by the guidelines as stated. I will sign and return one copy of the contract to the director and keep the other for my own records.

Round One Audition Monologues

ARIELJust look, Founder! The sun, the sand…isn’t it the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen? (noticing the prince). I’ve never seen a human this close before. Flounder , I think he’s handsome. (Finds a telescope)…what did Scuttle call this one? Is it a ditty-whumper? Athumb-doodle? Whatever it is…Prince Eric held it in his own strong, beautiful human hands -

PRINCE ERIC Suppose I don’t want to be King! Did you ever try to take a princess sailing? It’s a joke. Their dresses get caught in the rigging. And most of ‘em can’t even swim. Where am I gonna find her, Grimsby? A girl who’s as carefree and alive as the sea itself? Trust me, Grimsby – when I come across the girl of my dreams, it’ll hit me like lightning. (Lightning cracks across the sky followed by thunder.)

GRIMSBY I swore an oath to your father on his death bed that I would turn you from a roustabout into a royal and have you married to a princess by your next birthday, which is now just three days away! You know, there’s more to a woman than her flutter kick. Our kingdom needs a queen.

KING TRITON That savage brute could have killed you. And it my job to keep you safe from harm. He’s a human and you are a mermaid. (pause) Ariel, I miss your mother just as much as you do. But I am still the king. You are not to go to the surface again. Am I clear???

URSULA Flotsam, my pet! Jetsam, my darling! Come to me my little sea-spies! Apparently, Ariel takes her gift for granted…just like her mother did! A woman doesn’t know how precious her voice is until she’s been silenced. You two find out what that girl wants then lure her hear to my lair. I’ll whip up something to make her dreams come true. Once we have her trapped, Triton will rush to her rescue. And then, my dears…the trident, crown and throne will be all mine!!!

FLOUNDERAriel…I am not sure we should be up here. A guppy?!? I am as brave as you are! I’m not afraid of anything – Sharks?!? Where…………..????

SEBASTIONMornin’ to y’all! I got a special song, just for the occasion! And it’s gonna be performed by none other dan your seven love-lee daughters! I wrote this little number for my star pupil – (sotto) If only she’d show up for rehearsals once in a while.

SCUTTLEMore human paraphenicular, eh? You’ve asked the right bird; I happen to be an expert on that very specie-ality! Oh, this is rare, ridonkulously rare. An in Sistine condition! It’s a dinglehopper. Commonly used in saloon, yes, of the beauty variety. (demonstrates) Human like to wear their hair in tails, pony or pig or duck, it’s all the same to them. A primp here and a twirl there and – voila! A Pompadour-able. And all thanks to – a dinglehopper!

FLOTSAM / JETSAM Poor Urssssssula! King Triton and the merfok are celebrating your defeat! And he blames you for the queen’s demise… (Be sure to tell us if you roller skate, inline skate, or skateboard.)

CHEF LOUIS Attention. Attention! Le menu pour ce soir: escargot, lobster bisque, tuna tartare, holy mackerel. Maintenaunt!

MERSISTERS I’m talking about Ariel. She sure is acting fishy lately! Swimmin’ in circles! Chasing her tail! That girl is up to her gills in something!

PILOT / SAILORS Hurricane a’coming. Captain. King Triton must be angry indeed! The ship’s listin’ badly. Secure the rigging. Eric, take the wheel. Man overboard!

ENSEMBLE: Merfolk, Sea Creatures, Land Creatures Sing the song(s) assigned to your gender.
