However, there is a way toget Burlington County produceand products every week duringthe summer, rather than once ayear, and that is at the Burlington

County Farmers’ Market.In its ninth season, Burlington

County operates a weekly com-munity farmers’ market featur-ing more than 50 vendors. Themarket is held every SaturdayMay through October from 8:30a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BurlingtonCounty Community AgriculturalCenter, 500 Centerton Road.

This struggle of anew college graduateis followed inMoorestown residentJenni Fink’s new bookcalled “Sentenced toLife,” which is about ayoung woman namedChelsea Carlton who just

graduated college and needs tofinds herself again. Fink hopesreaders can relate to her protago-

nist and realize the journeyis half the fun.

“After college, no one istelling you who to be. Youhave to decide for your-self,” Fink said. “At thetime, things might notwork out, but in a fewyears, it will befunny.”

Fink grew up inMoorestown,going through itsschool systemfrom elemen-tary to highschool. Shethen went to

the University of Arizona, studying com-

munications and wanting to

work in fash-ion. After aninternshipwith a smallfashion publicrelations com-pany thatfailed to pro-vide her a job,and hearinghorror storiesfrom friendsin larger fash-

ion companies, Fink knew shecouldn’t work in that kind of en-vironment. So she came home toMoorestown to find herself.

“I didn’t know what to do be-cause I had pictured my life thatone way. I had to take a step backand look at what I really loved todo,” Fink said.

Gov. Christie not a stand-upguy for the people

Your endorsement of Chris Christie forpresident, (“A president from New Jersey?"

July 8-14) fails to mention a single accom-plishment by the governor. Here are a few:On May 26, 2011, Gov. Christie abruptly

pulled New Jersey out of Regional Green-house Gas Initiative, a 10-state carbon trad-ing system.

Between 2008 and 2012, RGGI generatedmore than $700 million for participatingstates, and it decreased carbon emissionsby 45 percent.

In 2004, New Jersey brought suit against

ExxonMobil seeking $8.9 billion for con-taminating more than 1,500 acres of water-front and meadows, 18 industrial sites andmore than 800 gas stations. In April 2015,Christie settled the lawsuit for $225million, just 3 percent of the original esti-

mate.In 2012 the Legislature passed A575, a bi-partisan bill that banned the importationof all hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”)waste from other states. Christie saidhe vetoed the bill because it would violatethe Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitu-tion.

That same year, the Vermont Legisla-ture passed a bill, signed into law by Gov.Peter Shumlin, which banned both frack-

ing and fracking waste disposal. That lawhas not been challenged as unconstitution-al by any other state, by the fracking indus-try or by the federal government.

The citizens of New Jersey have thesame right to clean air, water and soil as

Vermonters, but our combative, “JerseyStrong” governor is unwilling to protect usor our environment from fracking waste.As long as his veto stands, no court willrule on whether such a hypothetical banwould be unconstitutional.

These “accomplishments” show thatChristie is in the pocket of the oil and gasindustry; therefore he can’t be a stand-upguy for the people.

It Takes A Village New Jersey volunteer orientation set for July 21

For once, New Jersey has some-

thing to be proud of. The Gar-

den State can proudly boast that

four of its own were a part of the U.S.

women’s national team that won the

World Cup last week, among them the

star of the final game against Japan –

Carli Lloyd, who scored three goals.Lloyd, who attended Rutgers Univer-

sity, is originally from Delran and now

resides in Mt. Laurel. Lloyd has always

been the most well-known member of

the team from New Jersey.

Entering this year, she was already

the all-time leading scorer (with 61

goals) for a player who has played ex-

clusively as a midfielder. And she has

always seemed to shine in the biggest

moments. In addition to the three goals

in the World Cup finale, Lloyd also

scored both of the team’s goals in theGold Medal winning game against

Japan in the 2012 London Olympics.

New Jersey can be proud of more

than just Lloyd, though. We can cele-

brate midfielder Tobin Heath, from

Basking Ridge, who also scored a goal

in the World Cup final game. Point

Pleasant’s Christine Rampone – a de-

fender who has played in five World

Cups for the U.S. – and Heather O’Reil-

ly, a midfielder from East Brunswick,

were also big participants for the team.

The victory by the women’s soccer

team was something we should all be

proud of, and it gives us New Jer-

seyans a feather to put in our collective

cap. Not everything about our state is

bad; we make significant contributions

to our country on a daily basis.While the World Cup is just a sport-

ing event, it’s something that bands

our country together. It’s something

that people watch all around the world,

whether they are avid fans of soccer or

have never watched the sport before.

The victory by the women’s national

team gives all of us a great sense of

pride in our country, and it’s thanks in

large part to four of the Garden State’s

own.

Since the Burlington CountyFarmers’ Market’s beginningnine years ago at the BurlingtonCounty Community AgriculturalCenter, the market has continuedto grow.

it should check it out,” Arpertsaid.The Burlington County Farm-

ers’ Market also provides musicalentertainment each Saturday, aska master gardener every secondand fourth Saturday, and story-telling for kids with theMoorestown Library once amonth.

Fink always loved writing, butshe had put herself in a box withher career goals. She didn’t con-sider writing as a career. Whatgot her into writing again wereher blog, Frankly Fink, and be-coming a contributing writer forBuzzfeed.

“I had to let go of what Ithought my life was supposed tobe and what it was going to be. Itturned out so much better than Iimagined. I feel like I’ve openedmyself up to so many opportuni-ties, even though I’ve let go of one. You really need to do some-thing you truly love instead of forcing yourself to love it,” Finksaid.

She started “Sentenced to Life”her last year of college when shewas questioning her career goal.Encouraged by friends and fami-ly, Fink wrote and finished thestory and sent it to publishers.

“I have great friends who were

definitely a big influence on keep-ing me going. Sometimes, the bestthing you can have are peoplewho are in your corner and pushyou forward when you feel likeyou can’t go any further,” Finksaid.

Fink was rejected by publish-ers time and time again. She saidit was hard receiving the rejec-tions. However, her book was

eventually accepted by PegasusBooks, a publishing company inCalifornia.

“It is easy to lose faith with re- jections. But when my book wasaccepted, I could finally say I wasright. It was worth it in the end,and I feel like I’m doing what Iwas meant to be doing,” Finksaid.

Fink worked with PegasusBooks on “Sentenced to Life” formore than half a year to edit itand get it ready for publishing.Looking back at her first draft,she said the book has come a longway.

“Sentenced to Life” is about re-cently graduated Chelsea Carl-ton, who seems like she knewwhat she wanted when herplanned life starts to unravel. Job-less, she is forced to move back toher hometown and her unrequit-ed summer love, Chris. With somany paths to choose, she’sforced to make decisions that will

forever change her future.This “coming of age” novel is

purely fiction, but the book doesparallel Fink and her friends’feelings at the time of graduationand after.

Fink hopes those who read the

book take away three things: thatyou aren’t alone, that the journeyis half of the fun, and that youcan change career goals any time

in your life.“Take every experience and

use it to propel yourself forward,because in the end, it will befunny. The feelings you feel rightnow are normal. Sometimes, it ishard to find someone who can re-late, but it is really all normal andeveryone else is feeling that way.The only place and person youneed to be is exactly where andwho you are. You always have thepower to change the situation if you find out it isn’t what youwant. Some new opportunitiesare better and so much more thanyou could’ve imagined,” Finksaid.

“Sentenced to Life” is availablethrough the publisher at www.pe-gasusbooks.com as well as In-gram, Amazon, Barnes & Nobleand Smashwords.

The release date was Monday,July 13. The book will be availableas a paperback and eBook frommore than 40,000 retailers world-

wide.Fink is working on her second

board member. For that certifica-tion, she must earn a cumulativetotal of 40 credits, attend acade-my programs in seven core areasand attend at least four countymeetings, two delegate assem-blies, two Annual NJSBA Work-shops and one full-day statewideprogram.

These various training pro-grams are held at NJSBA’s annualconvention, at the BurlingtonCounty School Boards Associa-tion, as well as many full-daytraining seminars on Saturdayswithin the state.

Goldenberg said her favoritepart of the process is the learningand becoming more knowledge-able on financial responsibilitiesand legal changes with the gov-ernment. Though finding time togo to the courses can be difficult,

as they are on the weekends andat night, she really enjoys it. Alsothrough spending time with otherdistricts, she learns how theydeal with different obstacles.

“Not only is it extremely inter-esting, it is incredible to see whatis going on in other districts andsee how similar situations aredealt with throughout the state.It’s enjoyable to serve to the bestof my abilities,” Goldenberg said.

That same evening, Golden-berg was simultaneously award-

ed a Certificate of Special Con-gressional Recognition, present-ed by MacArthur. The award wasgiven to Goldenberg, along withSouth Jersey board members, for

her outstanding and invaluable

service to the Moorestown com-munity. It was a total surprise tothose there, and Goldenberg washonored to receive the certificate.

“It was very kind of TomMacArthur to thank all of theboard members of southern dis-tricts with the certificate. It was avery nice surprise,” Goldenbergsaid.

“It was great speaking to suchan inspiring group of educatorsat the Burlington County SchoolBoard Association meeting. I wasalso excited to help recognizemembers who were earning spe-cial honors at the event,”MacArthur posted on his Face-book page.

Goldenberg would like to con-tinue to take courses and keep up-dated with the legislative changeswithin the state and continue toserve Moorestown to the best of her abilities. She would like tofind methods for additional fund-ing to provide more opportunities

for student involvement andlearning.

“I would like to have our dis-trict continue to excel and pro-vide opportunities for all of ourstudents, in manners that are sus-tainable financially,” Goldenbergsaid.

NJSBA President Don Websterhas asked and appointed Golden-berg to take on a new position forthe New Jersey School Board As-sociation. It involves a three-yearterm to serve the New Jersey

State Interscholastic Athletic As-sociation as an executive commit-tee member of the NJSIAA repre-senting NJSBA. She will beginthis in September.
