Working together, that’s how things get done at
the Moose. We are thankful for everyone who’s
contributed to the Lodge’s success.
We would like to thank Dennis Duffy for
keeping our beer cold, our drinks iced, and our
members in comfortable conditions!! We would
like to thank Christopher Blocker, who is always
ready to lend a helping hand and continually
thinking of new ideas to promote the Moose!!
Our biggest thank you goes to the behind the
scenes efforts of Tom Moran and Lori Martin.
Their endless devotion and everything they do
on a day to day basis help make the Lodge what
it is!! And of course, a big thanks you to every
one of our volunteers and membership!
We are also thankful that the football and
hockey seasons are finally here, and that baseball

Welcome to October.
I enjoyed attending Illinois Day on the Mooseheart
campus a few weeks ago, an open campus day filled
with campus tours, a luncheon, ice cream, and a chance
to meet the kids, house parents, and Moose members
from other lodges. We had a group of eight and ran into
another eight or ten Downers Grove Lodge members.
Our sponsored student Hannah Tucker was helping
with the event and is starting her senior year. She is doing
great. We had a chance to meet our newest sponsored stu-
dent Javion Hall who just arrived as an eighth grade stu-
dent this fall. He is a polite young man and seemed pretty
interested in football, among other things. Our two other
new sponsored kids, Rockson and Armani Eshun, ages six
and three, were off celebrating Rockson’s sixth birthday
with family. I hope to meet them in the near future. I rec-
ommend visiting Mooseheart to check it out, maybe a
football game or basketball game.
Here is a notice I just received from Chris Ecker
about an upcoming Mooseheart event: ʺ2, 3, or 4
wheels—please come join the Warriors Watch Riders,
September 27, 2014, at the Mooseheart campus for the
tribute to the Viet Nam Veterans from Mooseheart. The
Mooseheart Alumni Association is honoring the Viet
Nam Veterans from Mooseheart and is hosting a special
program before the homecoming football game. We ask the
Moose Riders and anyone else who can make it to come out
and participate in a long over-
due hero’s welcome home.
Staging time for the riders will
be 10:30 a.m. at the front gate.
Bring your flags and show
your Moose Pride! Let’s all
take the time to show them
our respect.ʺ This might be a
great time to see the kids and
campus.
We have a lot going on at
the Lodge over the next few
months as you can see on the
calendar. I hope to see you
around.

Fall and cooler weather has finally arrived and it’s time to
review our membership. You might ask yourself what is the
Moose Legion? A Moose Legionnaire is a dedicated member
of the Loyal Order of the Moose who continually looks for
ways to provide even greater service to our children at
Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. The Moose Le-
gion provides a venue for these enthusiastic members to di-
rect and lead special programs that accomplish this fraternal
mission.
If you are interested in the mission, the requirements to
join the Moose Legion are (1) hold active Lodge membership
for a minimum period of six months and (2) sponsor one
accepted member into the order. The application fee to join
the Moose Legion is $10 and the yearly dues are $17.
The Moose Legion meets the first Sunday of every month
at 9:00 a.m. upstairs at the Lodge. Breakfast is served at 9:30
a.m. followed by a meeting at 10:00 a.m.
Early this year the Downers Grove Moose Legion was
looking for a way to better serve the children of Mooseheart.
The school has recently been remodeled at a cost of $10 mil-
lion. To assist with this financial burden the Downers Grove
Moose Legion began a “Beverage Pong” event starting this
past May. It was a great success.
Since the first event we have had two additional events in
July and August and another scheduled in September. Participa-
tion has grown with each event. In August we had 18 teams
participate with two people per team. The cost is $5 per person;
blind draw for bracket placement and double elimination.
Many people are cautious about participating because they
think they may have to drink allot of alcohol if they lose. This is
untrue; you drink or don’t drink at your own pleasure. In
the end, it is an evening of competition, hanging out with
friends, making new friends, and having fun.
For those couples out there, where else can you take your
date for an evening of fun for as little as $10? So, come to the
next event on October 10 at 7:00 p.m. and help the Downers
Grove Moose Legion support the school renovation project.
Congratulations to Pat Donnelly and Aaron Towler for win-
ning the first place position in August. Thanks to all who
have participated and thanks for supporting the children of
Mooseheart.
As always try to do something good for someone each
day. Contact Jeff Kindermann (630/202-3341), or any Le-
gion member if interested in joining the Downers Grove
Moose Legion or for additional information pertaining to
upcoming events. August beverage pong winners: Aaron Towler (left) and Pat Donnelly.
Beverage Pong is scheduled for October 10 and November 14.

6 October/November Roundup
It’s October and riding season will soon be over. Many of
our Rider’s completed their Cruisin’ for the Heart
books—20-plus lodges spanning from northern Wiscon-
sin down to central Illinois and west to the Quad Cities.
Congratulations to all of you. The end party was at St.
Charles Moose Lodge. It’s always a great time. They raise
thousands of dollars for Mooseheart.
Illinois Day at Mooseheart on September 6 was a
beautiful ride! Six bikes made it ride. We then went to St.
Charles and Batavia Lodges. Most of
them continued all the way to Lake
Barrington and made it back in time
for the lottery drawing.
Our Lodge picnic was August 24. It
was a nice turn out and another great
time! Many members showed up that
we don’t often see. Moose Riders had
a large presence at the picnic. It was
appreciated by the Lodge and all who
attended. Big thank yous go out to
Mike Meador for getting the permit
and organizing the event, to Tom Mo-
ran for organizing and providing eve-
rything for transport to the picnic, to
Peter Crawford, J.C. Lippert, Jennie
Rollins, Herman Stift, and the many
Moose Riders participated in Illinois Day at Mooseheart.
others who donated time and/or food to help make the
day wonderful. Dennis Ponstein, the corn was delicious!
Hope to see everyone there next year.
Our Riders are cooking, again! Ribs will be back on
Thursday, October 16, from 6–8 p.m.—$10 for half a slab
with baked potato and salad. Buy your tickets early.
They sell out fast! We will be raffling off a Dick Butkus
jersey that night—$10 a chance, only 10 chances.
We have Moose Rider coozies and t-shirts in the So-
cial Quarters. Please ask the bartender.
Our Lodge is planning events every month. Some
may not make the Roundup . Check our newly updated
website www.dgmoose.org (thanks, Blane and Mike!),
or stop in for a cold one! Heidi is having her sixth annu-
al Halloween costume party on Saturday, October 25.
It’s always a great time. Carol is doing a Pub Crawl on
Saturday, October 11. Our members work hard to plan
these events. Please come support them.
Our Moose Riders are riding out to Mendota on Sun-
day, October 19, for the Halloween Festival. All vehicles
are welcome to this child friendly event. Please join us!
Weʹll have kick stands up right after enjoying our Lodge
Breakfast around 11 a.m.
There is still some beautiful weather ahead! The fall
colors will be out before we know it. With all of the rain
that we have had, it should be fabulous. Please ride safe-
ly and keep the shiny side up! As always, start seeing
bikes—of all kinds!

Social Quarters Happenings Continued from page 1
In the last newsletter I speculated that spring was going to hang
around for a while. Little did I know it would last straight into fall.
All in all, comfortable was the word. I hope all enjoyed.
It made for a beautiful day for our annual picnic where Jim
Vinopal presented the Man of the Year award to Rich Murrow! Rich
has for many years been our “go to guy” when things need to get
done and all to often without recognition. So on behalf of all of us,
thank you, Rich, and congratulations!
Our sporting clays day will be set in early October—date to be
announced at first meeting. Let’s get tuned up for hunting season!
Good luck to our fishermen heading to Winneconne first week in
October.
Christmas raffle tickets will be available in October. Be sure to
come and get yours to sell.
I hope it doesn’t snow on all the little Trick or Treaters. That’ll
mean I’ll have way too much candy left over.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving festivities—wherever your plans take
you.
Gentlemen, we still have membership opportunities available. If
you are a Lodge member in good standing, enjoy outdoor activi-
ties—fishing, hunting, shooting sports, camping—we would wel-
come you to come and see what we have to offer. We meet on the
first and third Wednesday of each month in the Lodge basement at 8
p.m. Your first year is free of dues. We look forward to seeing you
there. Jim Vinopal presents Rich Murrow with the Man of the Year award.
games, and lots of great camaraderie!
Cal Duncan started us off with an awesome ham and
beef buffet. Thank you, Cal! Upcoming menus will feature
Jeff Rozell’s chicken dumpling soup and Jan Powell’s
porketta sandwiches. Lara Grund will cover a few Sun-
days as she always does and so will Mike Reynolds. Hey
now! For Monday Night Football games, Merle Richerson
will be serving hamburgers in the Social Quarters for a
nominal price. The menu and prices are displayed for all to
see.
Our two favorite party nights are coming up—
Halloween and the eve of Thanksgiving. The Moose will
feature bands on both nights. Heidi Besler is hosting her
6th annual Halloween party. She always comes thru and
never disappoints! In order to let everyone enjoy Hallow-
een with their families, we will have our party on October
25. The Social Quarters will be costumed for Hallow-
een and so will our members. And who can forget all
the fun that Hindsight brings to our Lodge; they will
be here on November 26. They have been a favorite for
many years and hopefully for many more to come. Join
us in the Social Quarters for these festive occasions.
As we are writing this article the golf outing has not
happened, but, if history repeats itself, it will be a huge
success! Lara Grund knows how to execute these func-
tions with an effortless ease and they are always a lot
of fun. Thank you, Lara. Our last thank you goes to
Wally and Cathy Olewinski for hosting the Moose’s
first trivia night.
As always, we will end our article with a shout out
and this one is for the Winslow’s. Doug and Angie will
be turning 50!! Happy Birthday, old friends, and we
mean that in the good way!
Until next time peace, love, and cocktails!
