The Employee of the Month  (“EOM”) program  that has been devised by a committee of Kevin Reneau, Kurt Knauer , and Cliff Dochterman, and has been approved by the Board. This program would recognize each month an employee who works in Moraga, who has been nominated by his/her boss, and who is selected by a committee from Moraga Rotary and the Moraga Chamber of Commerce. The Moraga Chamber of Commerce will be a participant in the program, and it has the backing of Moraga’s Mayor, Mike Metcalf, and this year’s Chamber President, Frank Melon, General Manager of the Moraga Country Club. The EOM would receive about $100 value of services and/or merchandise from Moraga businesses (which will be all or partially donated), and he would have his photo and a brief story placed in the Lamorinda Weekly. Kevin and his committee have worked out the Rules and forms governing the nominating and selection process, and will (with the help of Moraga Rotarians) solicit businesses to publicize and promote the program. This program w ill be featured on t he Moraga Rotary web site, and nomination forms can be printed from it. A general discussion of the EOM program followed, with most of the comments very supportive and helpful. The idea of regular, periodic night meetings of Moraga Rotary would be to provide options to prospective members where attending a lunch meeting is difficult. The Soda C enter can accommodate night meetings through June, but future commitments by the Center can’t be guaranteed into their new fiscal year. There are many details to determine. For example: * can the meetings be at the Soda Center or elsewhere, and if so, where? * what will the meetings be like, and can they conform to our Rotary traditions? *should the night meetings be held monthly or at a longer interval? *can we improve membership with this program? The consensus of the Board is to try night meetings this year to see how they work out. The general discussion centered around the details, which are to be determined.  President Nora, Debbie Roessler, and Barbara Bruner  pose with District Governor Dave Dacus, showing off our Christmas stocki ngs for Juvenile Hall. DG Dacus visite d our Club on Dec 6, 2011.

VISITORS:

Bill Ames – Member of the Lafayette Rotary Club THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM:We held a Club Assembly this week primarily to discuss twoimportant topics: The new Employee of the Month program weare starting, and periodic night meetings of Moraga Rotary.

The Employee of the Month  (“EOM”) program  that hasbeen devised by a committee of Kevin Reneau, Kurt Knauer ,and Cliff Dochterman, and has been approved by the Board. This program would recognize each month an employee whoworks in Moraga, who has been nominated by his/her boss, and who is selected by a committee from Moraga Rotary andthe Moraga Chamber of Commerce.

The Moraga Chamber of Commerce will be a participant in theprogram, and it has the backing of Moraga’s Mayor, MikeMetcalf, and this year’s Chamber President, Frank Melon,General Manager of the Moraga Country Club.

The EOM would receive about $100 value of services and/or merchandise from Moraga businesses (which will be all or

partially donated), and he would have his photo anda brief story placed in the Lamorinda Weekly.

Kevin and his committee have worked out the Rulesand forms governing the nominating and selectionprocess, and will (with the help of Moraga Rotarians)solicit businesses to publicize and promote theprogram. This program will be featured on theMoraga Rotary web site, and nomination forms canbe printed from it.

A general discussion of the EOM program followed, with most of the comments very supportive andhelpful.

The idea of regular, periodic night meetings of Moraga Rotary would be to provide options toprospective members where attending a lunchmeeting is difficult. The Soda Center canaccommodate night meetings through June, butfuture commitments by the Center can’t beguaranteed into their new fiscal year.

There are many details to determine. For example:

* can the meetings be at the Soda Center or elsewhere, and if so, where?* what will the meetings be like, and can they

conform to our Rotary traditions?*should the night meetings be held monthly or at a

longer interval?*can we improve membership with this program?

The consensus of the Board is to try night meetingsthis year to see how they work out. The generaldiscussion centered around the details, which are tobe determined.

In general discussion, Gary Irwin brought up the fact that our weekly lunch revenue does not cover the weekly expense, primarily due to decreased membership and attendance. Theestimated lunch deficit is currently about $700-900 for the year, and the Club can accept this deficit or change it.

Ideas for change included: from Bill Ames (visiting Rotarian—members could have the option of either a quarterly prepaidlunch charge, or a daily lunch charge a few dollars per dayhigher. From Colin Barnard—reinstitute a $5 missed meetingcharge. From David Kruegel—focus our time and energy ongaining new members rather than spend so much onfundraising.

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED?Herb Wehmeyer, our greeter and invocator, for today began our meeting with inspiring comments from the internet, followed byhe Pledge of Allegiance.

Nora Avelar announced an open meeting of the Nite of theRaces committee on Tuesday, January 24 at 5 pm at theDochtermans. She also announced that tickets for $25 are nowon sale from Louise for the InterClub meeting at Rossmoor onWednesday, Feb 8.

Confessions, High Fives, & Happy Bucks:

Al Simonsen confessed to a Caribbean cruise with Marilyn fromMiami to many of the islands there, and casually threw in the facthat they bought a new Camry for Marilyn’s birthday. He spunhe wheel for $5, which he rounded up to $50.

Barbara Bruner had a high $5 for her emotional roller-coaster inwatching just the last two minutes of the Niner victory over NewOrleans. Not bad for just two minutes of viewing.

Bill Ames, visiting Rotarian from Lafayette, had a Happy Buckhat his presence was acknowledged even if he had to do itimself.

Vickie Devlin gave a Happy Buck for her daughter who obtained job, a rare feat in this economy.

Gary Irwin gave a Happy Buck for his Kansas Jayhawks’ victoryast night on national TV over previously undefeated Baylor, andnother one because Kansas, K-State, & Mizzou basketballeams (from the same conference) rank in the Top Ten teams inhe Country. Erickson and Schoemehl were goaded by Lad to

make a similar donation in honor of their schools, which they

ventually did.

We are rapidly approaching the time of year when the clubroles and responsibilities for the 2012-2013 Rotary year must be defined. With our club membership being a littleover thirty people, it’s important that everyone consider doing something - either serving on the board, being a

member of a committee, chairing an event, organizing a dinner or community activity, writingthe newsletter, being the president-elect, etc.

Let someone on the current Board know if there a role that you would like to fill. Please considersaying “yes” if you asked to help out.
