Morgan Elementary PAC Meeting Minutes
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017
Attendees Present (Appendix 1): Danielle Hendry (PAC President), Amy Hayward (Secretary), Sharon Fisher (Vice-President), Claire Richter (Concession), Vicki Kucheran (Earthquake Kits/DPAC Rep), Kim Schierbeck (Direct Donation/Art Card), Brad Issel (Principal), Shahrukh Jafree (Member at Large) Kelsey Bourn (Community Outreach), Kendall Charles (Student Teacher), Tanya Gareau (Parent), Tim & Candice (Parent), Suk Kaly (Parent)

5. Principal’s Update (Brad Issel): Appendix 2 6. Committee Reports
i. Kiss and Ride Update (Brad Issel): Staffing with Grades 6 & 7's at the crosswalk is working out well with the support and supervision of teachers. As of now, the PAC will not be responsible for coordinating the Kiss and Ride program. The PAC will still be willing to assist the Principal upon request in the future.
ii. Book Fair (Danielle Hendry): Spring dates April 26-28th iii. Parent Education (Traci Costa): Ideas for this year:
• Saleema Noon - iGirl/iGuy, which would be over 2 weeks, outside of school time for Grade 4+, at a cost of $1400 to the parents with the PAC subsidizing it, availability in May.
• Deborah MacNamara - Wishing Star (Making sense of Anxiety or Roots of Resiliency or Loss Art of Play) at no direct cost to the parents, availability in April.
• Carol Todd (Amanda Todd's mother) regarding Cyber Bullying at no direct cost to the parents, availability unknown at this point. Traci to reach out to Carol Todd.
iv. DPAC Update (Vicki Kucheran): Appendix 3 v. Scholarship Committee (Danielle Hendry): (Tabling till next meeting)
7. Treasurer’s Report (Danielle Hendry): Appendix 4 i. Open discussion regarding 2017/17 surplus spending; these were some of the ideas
put forward by parents: • Designating money towards the Grade 7 Grad • Little Bits • Shakespearean Workshops

• Geering Up 8. Aqua Bus (discussion about reallocation of funds): Teacher's have not been able to reach
anyone to book the Aqua Van. Brief discussion about options to reallocate the funds, but Vicki has a contact at the Aquarium and will work on booking it on behalf of the teachers (working with Brad regarding dates). Table until next PAC Meeting.
9. Art Start Performance addition: Due to a miscommunication there was 2 Art Start Performances booked for this year, but the PAC had only 1 budgeted. Open discussion as to whether or not the PAC would pay for the additional Art Start Performance. It was moved (Sharon) and seconded (Kelsey) that $1000 be allocated to a second Art Start Performance on the budget for this year. By a vote of 13 in favour and none opposed, the motion has been passed.
10. Community Outreach Budget; A Stroller was purchased ($101) for Christmas Hamper, to replace one that was donated and not deemed usable. It was moved (Sharon) and seconded (Traci) that $101 be added to the Community Outreach Budget for this year. By a vote of 13 in favour and none opposed, the motion has been passed.

b. I’m looking to designate classroom 109 as a place to apply ADST
curriculum

o Truth and Reconciliation – putting aboriginal content into curriculum
to honour aboriginal worldviews; acknowledging land is a way to
keep promise and to recognize our appreciation for traditional
territories; our constitution states inclusion of aboriginal peoples and
ideas

▪ Intentionality around work is now evident; teachers have
always known that emotional wellness must be present for
learning to occur; if we don’t attend to SEL, learning isn’t
happening

implemented SEL twice/week for 30min session – academic
performance increased 11% Weissberg 2011
