Lo spirito decostruttivista sembra non aver ab-bandonato Thom Mayne e lo studio Morphosisdi Los Angeles. Nella sede della Direzione Ge-

nerale dellistituto di Credito carinziano HypoBank Italia localizzata a Feletto Umberto, fra-zione del Comune di Tavagnacco, le formemorphosiane tagliano il circostante come deibisturi. Forme che disegnano una morfologiastrutturale sensibilmente innestata in un terri-torio disegnato dal tracciato autostradale e dalpreesistente comparto direzionale. Linserzio-ne del progetto in un territorio di connessionedestinato ad un implemento di valenza mo-tivato da un incrementato valore economico-finanziario del capitale bancario e per questoassurge ad icona ben interpretando il valoremonumentale dellarchitettura per usare untermine coniato da Guido Nardi richiesta daicommittenti. Un connubio tra architettura eazienda gi sperimentato nelle sedi di Klagen-furt e Zagabria dove lo stesso istituto incaricadella progettazione larchitetto Thom Mayne,fondatore dello studio Morphosis di Los Ange-

les e vincitore del Premio Pritzker 2005. Lim-pianto si articola in una composizione di volu-mi bassi e allungati che scheggiano dal corpo

centrale che si erge nel paesaggio sviluppan-dosi su otto piani fuori terra e su un piano in-terrato destinato ai parcheggi e ai vani tecnici.La composizione di spazi e volumi segue treconcetti fondamentali che spaziano dallanalisidella vita sociale delledificio a definizione delprogramma funzionale (lavoro, ricreazione,svago, ecc.) destinato a favorire le relazioniinterpersonali, attraverso lo studio del traccia-to connettivo che in orizzontale e in verticaledisegna i collegamenti confluenti nellintrec-cio di pontili, passerelle, scale e ascensori, perapprodare allambiente ufficio quale luogo dibenessere, produttivit e gratificazione degliutenti. La costruzione comprende la sede ban-caria, larea direzionale con un archivio, uncentro congressi con una sala principale e tresale secondarie, una piscina comunale con due

vasche natatorie, spazi riservati al pubblico elocali complementari, fra cui gli spogliatoi e la

The deconstructionist spirit seems not to haveabandoned Thom Mayne and the MorphosisStudio in Los Angeles. On the site of the Gen-eral Management offices of the CarinthianInstitute of Credit Hypo Bank Italia located atFeletto Umberto, emerging forms cut into thesurroundings like scalpels; forms that designa structural morphology sensitively graftedonto a territory designed by the track of thesuperhighway and by the existing managerialdepartment. The insertion of the project intoa territory of connection destined to increasein value is motivated by the incrementedeconomic-financial value of the banks capi-tal, and for this reason it assumes the status

of icon, well interpreting the monumentalvalue of architecture to use a term coinedby Guido Nardi requested by the clients. Sucha fusion between architecture and a companyhas already been experimented in the officesof Klagenfurt and Zagabria, where the sameinstitute commissioned the project of the ar-chitect Thom Mayne, founder of the MorphosisStudio in Los Angeles and winner of the 2005Pritzker Award. The project is articulated in acomposition of low, elongated volumes, whichsplinter off from the central body that rises inthe landscape for eight floors above ground,

with a basement floor to be used for parkingand for technical facilities. The composition ofspaces and volumes follows three basic con-

cepts which range from analysis of social lifein the building to definition of the functionalprogram (work, recreation, entertainment,etc.) designed to favor interpersonal relation-ships, through a study of the connective pathtraced on the horizontal and the vertical by theconnections flowing into the network of foot-bridges, gangways, stairs and elevators, to ar-rive at the office area as a place of productive

wellbeing and gratification for its users. Thestructure includes the bank headquarters, themanagerial area with an archive, a congresscentre with a main hall and three secondaryrooms, a communal swimming pool with twosections, spaces reserved to the public and

complementary rooms, including dressingrooms and the reception desk, a fitness centre,and a kindergarten with playground.The two main facades of the General Manage-ment building are entirely glazed; at the endsof the east and west wings are the safety stairs.On the north faade, at the center, the meet-ing room of double height (sixth and seventhfloors) projects outward, affording a splendid

view of the mountains.The velocity and dy-namism suggested by the veil-like structurehas inspired movements of earth and grassyclumps in dialogue with escarpments of 30slope which blossom in blue, the corporateidentity color of Hypo Alpe Adria Area, an ef-fect enhanced by the lighting at night.

reception, un centro fitness, una scuola mater-na con spazio allaperto dedicato. Le due fac-ciate principali della Direzione Generale sono

completamente vetrate, mentre alle estremitdellala est ed ovest sono state collocate le scaledi sicurezza. Nella facciata nord, centralmente,la sala riunioni a doppia altezza (sesto e setti-mo piano) aggetta proponendo una suggestiva

vista sulle montagne.La velocit e il dinami-smo suggeriti dalla struttura a vela ha ispiratomovimenti di terra e di zolle erbose in dialogocon scarpate inclinate 30 che fioriscono di blucolore corporate identity della Hypo Alpe AdriaArea, un gioco sottolineato di notte dallillumi-nazione. Il progetto selezionato per concorso stato ideato da Karin Elzenbaumer, SebastianGretzer e Veronica Reiner dello studio Freilichdi Merano.Da un punto di vista tecnologico,ledificio ha una struttura portante intelaiatain cemento armato, con la presenza di setti di

irrigidimento e controventamento che segueun andamento a vela inclinata di 14 rispettoallasse verticale delle pareti sud e nord. In

particolare, i pilastri verticali sono in c.a. fi-no al sesto piano, mentre i pilastri inclinati etutti quelli del settimo piano sono in profilatidi acciaio. I solai sono a lastre tralicciate tipopredalles con elementi di alleggerimento inpolistirolo ad eccezione di alcune parti mino-ri, ove per esigenze geometriche e strutturali,sono state gettate in opera solette monolitiche.In corrispondenza del settimo piano, una partedi solaio stata realizzata, per esigenze archi-tettoniche in acciaio e vetro. Nelledificio, larichiesta di una grande flessibilit stata sod-disfatta dal progetto di Geza orizzontalmen-te secondo una relazione esatta fra scrivanie,isole, rete dati e punto luce, e verticalmenteconsentendo un rapido cambiamento sui pianimediante un razionale sistema di spostamento

ultimo piano, che ospita il top management e learee di rappresentanza, stato approcciato da-gli architetti in modo parzialmente differente,mantenendo inalterati i concetti di razionalit,rigore e modularit che, oltretutto, rappresen-tano idealmente anche gli obiettivi aziendalipropri del Cliente. Questi stessi concetti han-no determinato anche la scelta dei materiali difinitura degli interni in cui lintonaco biancodelle partizioni inclinate contrasta con il gri-gio del cemento lisciato a vista degli elementistrutturali e del pavimento sopraelevato in grsporcellanato, Pietra di Bedonia della collezioneNew Stone di GranitiFiandre. Ad est stata de-stinata larea del top management con gli uffi-ci direzionali, le segretarie ed interpreti (partedelle quali in reception), le aree di attesa e lemeeting rooms; ad ovest trova posto la grandesala del Consiglio, con annesse le aree per ilfoyer, le mini-meeting rooms, i servizi per gliospiti, la cucina, ed una sala da pranzo al co-perto ed allaperto. Il progetto di office spaceplanning di Geza, sui 16.000mq complessivi diufficio, ha consentito di inserire 80 posti lavo-ro in pi di quanto inizialmente ipotizzato dalCliente.

The seventhand last floor, which houses the top manage-ment and the representation rooms, has beenapproached by the architects in a somewhatdifferent manner, keeping unaltered the con-cepts of rationality, rigor and modularity which,above all, ideally represent the corporate ob-

jectives of the client. These same conceptshave also determined the choice of finishingmaterials for the interiors, in which the whiteplaster of the slanting partitions contrasts withthe grey of the exposed smooth concrete of the

structural elements and of the raised flooringin porcelain stoneware, Pietra di Bedonia, fromthe collection New Stone of GranitiFiandre.On the eastern side is the top managementarea with the managerial offices, the secre-taries and interpreters (some of whom are atthe reception desk), the waiting rooms andthe meeting rooms. On the western side is thegreat Board room, with annexed to it the foyer,the mini-meeting rooms, facilities for guests,the kitchen, and an indoor and outdoor din-ing room. Thanks to Gezas office space plan-ning project, it has been possible, over the to-tal 16.000m2of office space, to insert 80 more

workposts that had been initially planned bythe client.

The project, selected by competition, wasconceived by Karin Elzenbaumer, SebastianGretzer and Veronica Reiner of the FreilichStudio in Merano.From the technological viewpoint, the build-ing has a reinforced concrete bearing struc-ture with the presence of stiffening sectorsand bracing, developing in the shape of a sailinclined 14 from the vertical axis of the southand north walls. The vertical pillars are built ofreinforced concrete up to the sixth floor, whilethe inclined pillars and all of those on the sev-

enth floor are built of steel sections. The floorsare built of trellised slabs of the predallestype with polyesterol lightening elements,

with the exception of some minor parts, wherefor geometric and structural requisites, mono-lithic slabs have been poured onsite. On theseventh storey, part of the floor has been builtof steel and glass, for architectural reasons.In the building, the demand for great flexibil-ity has been satisfied by Geza horizontally,according to an exact relationship betweendesks, islands, data networks and light points,and vertically by allowing rapid changes onthe floors through a rational system of movingpartitions and containers. A fundamentally im-portant stage consisted of identifying areas of
