Presidents Report
We are now into a new month and a new season with a tinge of freshness in the mornings.
February has been another month of great country music for our club. The monthly concert
was made all the more special with our guests, the ‘Trenwith Boys’ Sam, Tim and their dad
Paul. A different sound for us as we all enjoyed the gospel songs written by Sam. We were
thrilled that they were able to give their time to show us some of their favorite style of
music. Other names that were featured at our committee meeting for their special
performances on the night were Tracey, Nick, Cliff and Rebecca. Rebecca, who as you will
read in the newsletter, is our March Spotlight Artist. Rebecca has come such a long way in
a very short time, you will love the songs she has chosen to sing for you.
By now, those of you who were unable to get tickets for Hayley and Ryan Monaghan’s
fundraising concert, which was organized by Jenny Hantler, and held at the Little Theatre in
Morrinsville on 24th February will have heard what an incredible and amazing concert it
was. (More about this below.)
On Saturday the 3rd of March, we have 16 members of your club performing at the
Morrinsville A & P Show. It is a big contingent, a big commitment, it would be great if you
could come along and support us.
On behalf of the committee and members, I wish to publicly offer our sincere condolences
to Sharon and Graeme McIntyre and family for the tragic loss of their beautiful daughter
and sister Casey. Casey was a loved wife of Davey Walker and precious mama of Briar and
Tanner.
I have also recently heard of Gaye Telford’s fathers passing. Condolences to Gaye and her
family.
See you soon,
Marilyn Holmes, President
Notes to Singers: Please choose songs of Country Origin. Please also have respect for our band
members. They give up a lot of time and put in a lot of effort trying to make our songs the
best they can possibly be. Please be careful to present clear chord charts. If you are having
difficulty, or are unsure about a song or a chart, there are lots of friendly folk who will help, or
point you in the right direction for information. And finally, give our MC and sound desk
operator, who are not professionals, time and respect to do their job. Thanks.
The MCMC AGM is to be held at the Senior Citizens Hall on Canada St on
Monday the 19th of March. Please come along to the AGM to support the
MCMC.
MCMC March
Spotlight Artist Rebecca Caffyn
Rebecca Caffyn is a fifteen-year-old girl who loves music. She is currently in Year 11 and has been a member of the Morrinsville Country Music Club for just over two years. Rebecca studies music at school and plays instruments and performs in her spare time. These instruments include the guitar and piano, and she plans on learning to play many more. Some of her favourite artists are Kacey Musgraves, Lennon & Maisy, Kelsea Ballerini, the Dixie Chicks, and Harry Styles. When she is not doing music she also enjoys watching movies and op-shopping. Rebecca was a guest artist in the Morrinsville Country Music Club's ‘Spectacular’ concert in September last year and was a very popular entertainer. We know that you will enjoy Rebecca as our spotlight artist on Friday night the 9th of March at the Senior Citizens Hall, Canada Street, Morrinsville at 7.30pm
COMMENTS FROM MCMC FEBRUARY CLUB NIGHT: The committee discussed how we are constantly amazed by
our members ability to bring a song to the first practice night and build on it until it is presented at the monthly
show in a thoroughly memorable way. Good on all of us for the effort we put in to make Morrinsville club nights
great shows. February was no exception. Karina Hart did a great job as MC, off the cuff, being called in last
minute. Johan van der Gaag did a thoroughly good job on sound for a first up appearance, the word from the
musicians on stage was very positive. The Trenwith Boys performed a wonderful tight set, and were well received
by the crowd. It was nice to see a couple of duos, Doris Trubshaw and Cliff Head and the Roskams. Rebecca did a
very nice job of an old song. Tracey was an awesome band leader and also sang very well. Cliff amazed everyone
with another wordy song, so clever. And finally, the programme organisers, Gill and Cliff Head, did a wonderful
job, particularly opening the show with Karina and closing with Nick Nicholson. It worked exceptionally well.
Plenty of help in the kitchen, well done us!!
Thanks everyone. 😊
OUT AND ABOUT IN COUNTRY MUSIC
GORE, HERE WE COME!
Morrinsville Little Theatre was the ideal venue for a concert to raise funds to assist Ryan and Hayley Monaghan to
travel to Gore in June to compete in the “Gold Guitar Awards’’. This wonderful afternoon of entertainment was
arranged primarily by the “Master Organiser’’ Jenny Hantler, ably and willingly supported by other club members.
Although they enter as individuals, Ryan and Hayley will, I am sure, be worthy representatives of the “Morrinsville
Country Music Club”.
An appreciative audience was treated to a great variety of music and songs, both old and new country, by mostly
young performers from our club. Every one of the singers had obviously worked hard to reach the standard of
performance that was achieved and with the backing of an expert band, the audience were treated to some very
enjoyable high-quality entertainment.
Gary and Julie, you can be really proud of your young adult children and I wish you all a safe, enjoyable and
successful trip to Gore.

News: Hannah Cosgrove’s new single is out now, “Finally”. You can get a copy
of it on iTunes.
Don’t forget, our first practice night for the April concert will be Thursday the
29th of March as it is Easter and we won’t be here on Good Friday.
