FIGHTER 2005 is an outdoor air heat pump, specially designed for the Nordic climate. FIGHTER 2005 utilis-es the outside air so there is no need for bore holes or coils in the ground. FIGHTER 2005 has an automatic 2-step capacity regulator for the fan. FIGHTER 2005 is designed for **water based heating systems and can be used together with most electric boilers, oil-fired boilers or equivalent. The heat pump includes an advanced control system for optimal con-trol. FIGHTER 2005 is started by a start signal from another controller, return line sensor or thermostat.FIGHTER 2005 can also be controlled by a specially designed controller, SMO 10*. This connects and dis-connects the additional heat and controls switching between room heating and hot water heating.

FIGHTER 2005 can both heat hot water effectively at high outdoor temperatures and give a high output to the heating system at low outdoor temperatures. If the outdoor temperature drops to a level under the stop temperature all heating must then occur with external additional heat.FIGHTER 2005 is manufactured in sizes 8 and 11. Materials have been chosen to provide a long service life and to fully withstand harsh outdoor conditions.

Maintenance routines

FIGHTER 2005

For Home Owners

4

FIGHTER 2005 is equipped with control and monitor-ing equipment, however some exterior maintenance is still necessary.Make regular checks throughout the year that the inlet grille is not clogged by leaves, snow or anything else. In addition, you should ensure during the colder parts of the year that too much frost or ice does not form under FIGHTER 2005. Strong wind in connection with extensive snowfall can cause the inlet and exhaust air grilles to become clogged. Make sure that there is no snow on the grilles.

If necessary the outer casing can be cleaned using a damp cloth. Care must be exercised so that the plastic cover is not scratched when cleaning. Avoid spraying water into the grilles or on the sides so that water can penetrate into FIGHTER 2005.

General information for the installer

FIGHTER 2005

For the Installer

6

Current regulations require the heating installation to be inspected before it is commissioned. The inspec-tion must be carried out by a suitably qualified person and should be documented. The above applies to closed heating systems. If the heat pump is replaced, the installation must be inspected again.

FIGHTER 2005 is placed outdoors on a firm base, preferable a concrete foundation. FIGHTER 2005 should not be positioned next to sensitive walls, for example, next to a bedroom. Also ensure that the placement does not inconvenience the neighbours.Large amounts of condensation water as well as melt water from defrosting can be produced. Provide good drainage at the installation area and make sure water cannot run out onto paths or the like during periods that ice can form. Ideally condensation water is led off to a street inlet or the like. The distance between FIGHTER 2005 and the house wall should be at least 350 mm. Free space in front of and above FIGHTER 2005 should be at least one metre. FIGHTER 2005 should not be placed so that the recirculation of outdoor air can occur. This causes lower output and impaired efficiency.

FIGHTER 2005 should be transported and stored ver-tically.

Transport and storage

Installation

Inspection of the installation

FIGHTER 2005 is equipped with an internal electronic controller that handles all functions necessary for heat pump operations.Accordingly, defrosting, stop at max/min temperature, connection of the compressor heater as well as ena-bling the heater for the drip pan, monitoring of motor protection and pressure switches are controlled. The number of starts and the operating time can also be read. The integrated controller is set during installation and can be used during a service. Under normal operation conditions the home owner does not need to have access to the controller.FIGHTER 2005 has an integrated electronic return line sensor that limits the return temperature. The flow and return line sensors are fitted during installation.FIGHTER 2005 can also be switched on/off via signals from other control equipment or a thermostat. When FIGHTER 2005 is to be controlled using the accessory SMO 10, the relevant control procedures are described in respective instructions.SMO 10 communicates with FIGHTER 2005, which means that the settings and measurement values from FIGHTER 2005 can be adjusted and read on SMO 10.

Pipe connections 7

FIGHTER 2005

For the Installer

Pipe installation must be carried out in accordance with current norms and directives. FIGHTER 2005 works up to an outgoing temperature from the heat pump of approximately 58 °C. See section “Commis-sioning and adjusting” – “Adjustment, charge flow” for the right flow setting. Since FIGHTER 2005 is not equipped with shutoff valves on the water side these must be fitted to facilitate future service. The return temperature is limited by the return line sensor and is adjusted on channel 30.

General

FIGHTER 2005 can be connected to the heating sys-tem – see the section Docking.

The heat pump must be vented by the upper connec-tion (70, HM-out) using the venting nipple on the enclosed flexible hose. The supplied particle filter is installed before the inlet, that is to say, the lower con-nection (71, HM-in) on FIGHTER 2005. All outdoor pipes are to be thermally insulated with at least 19 mm thick pipe insulation. The circulation pump should be operational, even if FIGHTER 2005 is not running, to prevent dam-age due to freezing. The circulation pump can also be controlled directly from FIGHTER 2005, terminal (11), which takes the outdoor temperature into consid-eration. Alternatively, the heat pump is connected to an intermediate circuit with a heat exchanger, pump and water with anti-freeze. Shutoff and drain valves are fitted so that FIGHTER 2005 can be emptied in the event of prolonged power failures.

The supplied flexible hoses act as vibration dampers. The flexible hoses are fitted so a slight bend is creat-ed, thus acting as vibration damping.

Pipe connections (heating medium)

When docking with FIGHTER 2005, a total water vol-ume, in the boiler and accumulator, of at least 20 litres boiler water per kW output on the heat pump is recom-mended.

Water volumes

NOTE!The pipe work must be flushed before

the heat pump is connected, so that any contaminants do not damage the

components parts.

FIGHTER 2005 is supplied with flow and return line sensors, sensors and cables are packed in the distribution box. The edge board connector is fitted at the factory.■ Flow line sensor (89), yellow cable.■ Return line sensor (93), blue cable. ■ Flow and return line sensors are routed through

the cable gland (102) to respective measurement points.

■ The flow and return line sensors are fitted on the straight section of the copper pipe using cable ties together with heating pipe paste and aluminium tape.

NOTE! It is important that the contact between the sensor and measurement point is good and that the sensors are insulated.

FIGHTER 2005

For the Installer

12

Incoming supply 1 x 230V

The figure shows the heat pump in its 1 x 230 V design.

■ A heat pump must not be connected without the permission of the electricity supplier and must be connected under the supervision of a qualified electrician.

■ If a miniature circuit breaker is used this should have a motor characteristic “D” (compressor opera-tion). For MCB size see Technical Specifications.

■ The FIGHTER 2005 does not include an isolator switch on the incoming electrical supply. The instal-lation must be preceded by a circuit-breaker with at least a 3 mm breaking gap.

■ If an insulation test is to be carried out in the build-ing, disconnect the heat pump.

■ Connect the heat pump to the terminal block (9), via a distribution board with fuses. The heat pump is not reconnectable between 1-phase and 3-phase; neither can it be reconnected between 3 x 230 V and 3 x 400 V.

■ The signal cable for the thermostats is connected to terminal (30) on the relay card (29). Cable type: unscreened LiYY, screened LiYCY. Cable area, at least 0.22 with cable lengths less than 50 m.

Alternatively the relevant signal cable is connected from terminal (44) on the control card (34) to SMO 10.

■ The circulation pump for FIGHTER 2005 is con-nected to a separate supply or on terminal block (11). NOTE! There is a risk of freezing when the circulation pump is connected to the terminal block (11) and FIGHTER 2005 is deenergized.

■ A common alarm can be connected to terminal (11).

Common alarm

The figure shows the heat pump in its 1 x 230 V design.

An outdoor sensor (15) is positioned on the underside of FIGHTER 2005. If the FIGHTER 2005 faces south or to the west, where there is a risk of intensive heat-ing by the sun the outdoor sensor should be positioned on a north or north-west facing wall.

Outside sensorWhen the circulation pump is connected to the termi-nal block (11) the pump is controlled by FIGHT-ER 2005. Pump activity depends on the status of FIGHTER 2005, heating/hot water requirement and outdoor temperature. Pump exercising is handled by FIGHTER 2005.NOTE! There is a risk of freezing when the circula-tion pump is connected to the terminal block (11) and FIGHTER 2005 is deenergized.

You can use a basic thermostat to switch the compres-sor on and off. This thermostat should be of the break-ing type (NC) when the set temperature has been reached. The contactor should be potential free. When an external thermostat is not used, terminal block 30, pos 6 and 7 should be strapped. If you choose to use a single step thermostat then option “0” on channel 13, see section “Control Chan-nel description”, should be selected. You set the required outdoor air temperature level for switching between low and high fan speeds on chan-nel 14. At an outdoor air temperature below 13°C, the fan is forced to high speed irrespective of the setting on channel 14.Connection of the single step thermostat is made as set out in the picture below.

FIGHTER 2005

FIGHTER 2005 is equipped with a potential free con-tactor intended for additional heat: Max 250V 2A.The setting of the outdoor air temperature (balance temperature) when the additional relay is activated is made on channel 17, see the section “Control Chan-nel description”.External additional heat: connected via the additional relay terminal (14). Conditions for connecting addition-al heat:■ The outdoor air temperature should be lower than

the set balance temperature (channel 17) ■ The compressor should have been operational for at

least the period selected in channel 28. Defrosting is included in this time.

If the outdoor air temperature drops down to a level under the set value, stop temperature (downtime), in channel 18 compressor operations are blocked and all heating must take place using the external additional heat via the downtime relay terminal (16). This function is also activated when FIGHTER 2005 is deenergized. The connection to the additional relay is made as set out in the picture below.

16For the Installer

The heating medium system is filled with water to the required pressure. Vent the system using the venting nipple on the enclosed flexible hose and possibly the circulation pump.

Before commissioning, check that the heating circuit is filled and well vented. Check the pipe work for leaks.

Filling and venting the heating medium system

Preparations

NOTE! The compressor must not be forced to start with periods shorter than 1 start

per 15 minutes.

NOTE! The compressor heater must have

been connected for 6-8 hours before the first start, see the section “Start-up

and inspection”.

FIGHTER 2005 is equipped with a soft-start relay (97) that limits the inrush current for the compressor. The compressor must not be forced to start with peri-ods shorter than 1 start per 15 minutes.

The balance temperature is the outdoor temperature when the heat pump’s stated output is equal to the building’s output requirement. This means that the heat pump covers the whole building’s output require-ment down to this temperature. Setting of the balance temperature, additional heat, is made on channel 17.

When using a standard radiator system and with hot water heating the stop temperature should not fall below -7 °C. The setting of the stop temperature, downtime, is done on channel 18.

FIGHTER 2005 is equipped with a compressor heater that heats the compressor before start-up and when the compressor is cold. The compressor must have been switched on for 6-8 hours before the FIRST start, see the section Start-up and inspection.

■ Modular cable (44) or thermostat/strap, terminal (30) is disconnected.

■ The working switch is turned on.■ Check that all incoming phases are energized.■ Check that the miniature circuit-breaker (2) is on.■ The compressor heater (25) must have been oper-

ational for at least 6 hours before the compressor start can be initiated. This is done by switching on the control voltage and disconnecting the modular cable and thermostat/strap.

■ The display on the control card (34) shows C0/CC F0 H1/H3 depending on the outdoor temperature. During this period the compressor is heated to increase the service life.

■ After 6-8 hours the modular cable, external thermostats or strap on the input for hot water and/or input for single step or double step ther-mostat are connected. See the sections, Electri-cal connections - Hot water thermostat, Single step thermostat heating.

■ Restart SMO 10 if necessary.■ Once the connection is made, the compressor

starts after approx. 20 minutes.■ Adjust the charge flow according to the diagram,

see the section Adjustment, charge flow■ Fill in the commissioning report on page 2.

Start-up and inspection

NOTE! The live external control must be

taken into consideration when connecting.

Air is initially released from the hot water and venting may be necessary. If bubbling sounds can be heard from the heat pump, the circulation pump and radia-tors the entire system requires further venting. When the system has stabilised (correct pressure and all the air removed) the heating controls can be set at the required values.

Commissioning and adjusting 17

FIGHTER 2005

For the Installer

Adjusting the temperature difference (∆T) between the flow temperature and the return temperature. This is easily done by using the temperatures meas-ured in Channel 32 (flow temperature) less Channel 29 (return temperature), this temperature difference (∆T) is adjusted with the help of the circulation pump and control valve. Adjustment is performed with stable operation about 5 minutes after start, or about 5 min-utes after defrosting with a cold outdoor temperature.

The temperature difference shall be as in the diagram below (+1- 2K). At outdoor temperatures above 28 °C the charge flow can be increased by 30 % to obtain a position ∆T.The diagrams shows the heat pump with a high fan speed, at low fan speeds ∆T will be 0.5 to 1 degree lower.

HeaterThe compressor heater is always active when the compressor is switched off. The drip tray heater is connected when the outdoor temperature drops below the set value and is discon-nected when the stop temperature is reached.

FanThe fan has two speeds, high and low. The fan is con-trolled by the outdoor temperature. The lower speed is used when the outdoor temperature is high to limit the output. The fan does not run during defrosting.

CompressorThe compressor has a minimum running time of 5 minutes before compressor stop can be effected.

FIGHTER 2005 is usually placed next to a house wall, which gives a directed sound distribution that should be considered. Accordingly, you should always attempt to find a placement on the side that faces the least sound sensitive neighbouring area.

The sound pressure levels are further affected by walls, bricks, differences in ground level, etc and should therefore only be seen as guide values.

FIGHTER 2005 works in summer with a low fan speed and at other times with a high fan speed.
