Welcome to the latest offerings from Mossgreen-Webb’s Fine & Rare Wines Department. This catalogue features another wonderful selection of wines including some large format bottles from Bordeaux, Piedmont, Tuscany and Australia. Other highlights include many aged Dry River wines (with estimates far lower than the new releases due out next week), our usual array of many vintages of Penfold’s Grange, Church Road ‘Tom’, many older Te Mata wines and aged New Zealand Chardonnays, Hill of Grace as well as other aged South Australian reds-both great value and rare wine. The Bordeaux First Growths are very well represented along with Right Bank superstars and a great range of Vintage Port in halves, bottles and a Taylor’s 2000 magnum. We also have something in this auction that is outside our normal offerings: a personalized license plate for the Burgundy lovers amongst us – 1ERCRU. A number of the wines included in this auction have bin stained labels (BSL) or soiled labels (SOL). These have come mostly from one cellar where the vendors wine cabinet leaked and affected the labels. The wine inside the bottles are not affected in any way due to this leakage, but it shows the need for good quality wine cabinets like the Euro Cave (I’ve got one and love it!) to protect your fine and rare wines. Label damaged wines don’t worry me too much, but I know a number of you will have a different view on this. Please enjoy the catalogue and we look forward to seeing you at the auction on Tuesday 3 May at 6pm. If you have any questions regarding this sale, or consigning into future sales please contact me on 09 524 6804 or email [email protected]

Ratings We have used ratings from a number of well known wine writers. RP (Robert Parker), WE (Wine Enthusiast), WS (Wine Spectator), ST (Stephen Tanzer), BC (Bob Cambell MW), JS (James Suckling ) and JH (James Haliday) scores are a rating out of 100. JR (Jancis Robinson MW) and D (Decanter) are scores out of 20.

Ullage The term that refers to the gap between the bottom of the cork and the fill level of the wine. All wines listed in this catalogue have Ullage level of “Into Neck” or higher. If the level is lower it is stated in the catalogue.

TS (Top shoulder)-A good level in any wine 20 years or older.

US (Upper shoulder)-Indicates slight natural reduction through easing of the cork and evaporation through cork and capsule.

MS (Mid-shoulder)-Indicates some weakening of the cork and therefore some risk. This is not unusual in wines over 50 years old and estimates will take this into account.

LMS (Low-mid shoulder)-Indicates high risk and will attract low estimates.
