Most Precious Blood Catholic Church Denver
MISSION STATEMENT We, the parish of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, are a welcoming Christian
community seeking the Kingdom of God and committed to the gospel transformation of ourselves and of our world. We do this both by gathering in word and sacrament, spoken and sung, lifting one another in prayer and by sending one another forth into
the world to proclaim God’s love and mercy through sacrificial action.
.
Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Don’t you wonder about those disciples who “returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied” Jesus? They had heard about Jesus, had followed him even. But when he said that his Body was Real Food, and his Blood was Real Drink, that’s when they decided they were out.
They couldn’t understand it, and they certainly couldn’t believe it, so they had to leave the company of Jesus and the Twelve. I suspect that they must have been quite sad, maybe even devastated, that the man they had followed and loved had turned out to be a lunatic, just another shyster in an occupied territory where Messiahs were a dime a dozen. I suspect they followed the rest of his life from afar. They may have heard about that business with the woman caught in adultery and nodded sadly. Yes, that mercy is what drew us to him. And when he cured the man born blind, and then raised Lazarus from the dead, their hearts may have stirred within them. Yes! That’s the Jesus we love! That’s the Jesus for whom we were willing to give our lives! On that terrible Friday, they may have stayed far away, thankful they got out when they could, before the Romans could connect them with Jesus. But on that glorious Easter morning, with Mary Magdalene’s shouts of “I have seen the Lord!” ringing in the air, they must have asked themselves again: Why did we lose heart? Oh, right. It was that crazy business about him being the Bread of Life. That’s craziness, right? Right? Wrong. In fact, it was so true that Jesus was willing to let them walk away rather than soften it.
What truths about the faith have you held close, even as others walked away? Kathy McGovern ©2021 www.thestoryandyou.com
The Story and You Sacred Conversations :
Ministry Fair… Connect, Grow and Serve!
Join us after Masses the weekend of August 21 & 22 in the St. Stephen Parish Center to learn how you can connect,
grow and serve with the MPB Community. We are expanding this year’s event in response to the distance we experienced during the past year of the pandemic. There
will be over 25 resources, life giving programs and ministries represented! The opportunities are varied; from
serving as altar servers, to playing guitar, to visiting a homebound parishioner, to sharing our faith with families, to serving meals to those who are unhoused. There is a ministry
opportunity that is a perfect fit for your lifestyle and schedule; short term, long term, one time or recurring
opportunities. Need to sign up for Flocknote or register for the parish? We’ll be able to help you with that too!
Stop by and put your faith into action today. Plus, there will be coffee and donuts!
Photography for our new pictorial directory starts soon. The clothing you wear in a portrait is extremely important. When being photographed for the directory keep in mind this is not a quick snap shot. This is instead a professional portrait session. Use this
opportunity for portraits for your home, gifts for loved ones AND professional head shots for business. You may choose to dress formal or casual. So make the best of it! Families being photographed should always wear similar solid colors or tones. Avoid stripes and patterns because they are too distracting no matter how many people are in the photo. Individuals and couples should also follow the same rule. Call Bettinger Photography at 303.400.6023 for professional portrait clothing suggestions, if you have questions, or to schedule your appointment. Only those that are photographed receive a copy of the printed pictorial directory. Schedule online at www.PictorialServices.net/appointment.
We have 3 openings for the 4th-Tuesday group at 9am, beginning in September.
Contact Yvonne Costello at 303.759.3800, ASAP.
