New Old Flagpole Special thanks to Mr Noel Backman, Glenreagh Rural Fire Service and the Glenreagh Lions Club for their help and work in restoring the old flagpole at the front of the school. The old flag-pole was relocated a few metres closer to the fence and revamped. It looks fantastic again. NAPLAN Tests Recently the Year Three and Five students at our school and from all over the state sat the 2015 NAPLAN test. NAPLAN tests identify whether all students have the literacy and nu-meracy skills that provide the critical foundation for their learning, and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community. They assess the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. Coffs Harbour District Cross Country We sent several of our athletes to the district Cross Country at Woolgoolga early in May. Peter and Molly Cohen have progressed onto the Mid North Coast

Cross Country which will be held this Friday at Sawtell. P&C Thank you A big thank you to the P&C for purchasing ‘iPillows’ to be used in the junior classrooms to protect our iPads and to provide ergonomic support holding them in position while the chil-dren are working on them. We have been using them this week in our rooms and they are just perfect.

UNSW ICAS Competitions This week some students from 4/5/6B undertook ICAS Digital Technology tests. ICAS are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. These tests are optional and they also have the opportunity to sit other tests in English, Maths and Science throughout the first half of the year. Congratulations to those who took part. Grounds Work

There has been some construction in the lunch area at School this week where the old pavers are being replaced. We believe that it will take approximately one week with the workers doing their best to complete the work as we have re-

quested. The original ’Buy A Brick’ pavers are being relaid so we will still keep that part of our school history. As part of the new paving there will also be a marked chess board and the children will be able to then utilise the large chess pieces that the school won as part of last year’s Park Beach Plaza Shop for Schools Competition. Orara High School Year 4 and 5 Taster Lessons The students from Years 4 and 5 had their second visit to Orara High school this week. Similar to last time they participated in dancing, drama, PE, Maths activities and Science. The 3D printer proved a great hit. They were treated to a Sausage Sizzle BBQ. What a great time they had socialising and making friends with their older peers and we had great reports of their excellent behaviour.
