This clinically focused seminar will help parcipants determine where to begin therapy. Opons for treatment are many. This seminar will look at why including an assessment of the oral motor system can provide significant informaon about the child’s motor skills and motor planning as an indicator to why a child may not be using verbal language. An overview of oral motor and feeding skills to determine a child’s needs from an oral motor perspecve will be presented as well as tacle methods for elicing early speech. Similarly, a look at interacve skills including aenon, engagement, communicave intent, imitaon, and turn taking will help aendees determine a child’s needs in those areas. Praccal techniques and acvies including music to increase a child’s ability and desire to interact as well as how to include techniques using the principles of oral placement therapy (OPT) and tacle teaching methods will be presented and demonstrated via video examples. Suggesons for involving parents and establishing home programs will also be part of this informave program.
