Why do librarians spend time teaching kids to read for enjoyment?

Because we at the East Morgan County Library love children and know how important love of

reading is in their life!

"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents."— Emilie Buchwald

"Teaching reading IS rocket science."— Louisa Moats

"Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read."— Marilyn Jager Adams

"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark."— Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all."— Jacqueline Kennedy

“There is no substitute for books in the life of a child.”  - May Ellen Chase

"Oh, magic hour, when a child first knows she can read printed words!"— A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, 1943

"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island."— Walt Disney

“We read to know we are not alone.”

 - C.S. Lewis
