Congratulations, to everyone in the Faction Swimming Carnival for showing good sportsmanship and doing their best. Thank you to everyone for your support. The children have surprised me with their level of understanding about the precautions needed to limit the spread of COVID-19. Our goal is to main- tain routines and learning programs for students at school. While most chil- dren are at school today, approximately 25% are at home. Please note that in circumstances where individual parents withdraw their children from school, without a direction from government, there is no re- quirement for teachers to provide additional work/lessons for those stu- dents. Further guidance will be provided to schools if a school is forced to close. However, if children are not attending school and are at home I would suggest that children continue with daily reading, make a writing jour- nal (written or digital), continue IXL maths or make use of online apps and programs, create a science project, research a topic of interest, design and create artwork, create a digital project (movie). A COVID-19 Update will be sent home soon. If you are withdrawing your child from school, please send an email to your classroom teacher and [email protected] stating Surname, First Name, Room No. and the dates of absence. FROM THE PRINCIPAL

    Dear Parents,

Congratulations, to Cathleen and the parents/volunteers that organised the

successful sundowner activities last Friday. Just getting together as a

school community with families, children and staff was good for the soul.

Thank you to the P&C for funding the event.

Congratulations, to everyone in the Faction Swimming Carnival for showing

good sportsmanship and doing their best. Thank you to everyone for your

    support.

In these times of uncertainty with the impact of COVID-19, I am not sure

when our community will be able to enjoy school events in the near future.

The children have surprised me with their level of understanding about the

precautions needed to limit the spread of COVID-19. Our goal is to main-

tain routines and learning programs for students at school. While most chil-

dren are at school today, approximately 25% are at home.

    Cyber Safety Seminars

Last Monday, 9 March, Mount Claremont Primary School hosted a series of seminars for students, staff

and parents. Feedback received from all sessions was very positive with a focus on relevant infor-

mation and practical strategies for implementation.

The student seminars included topics on stranger danger, protecting personal information, cyber bully-

ing, online etiquette and staying safe online. Each of the three sessions were tailored to suit the age

groups allowing time of questions and discussion at the end.

Following are three charts outlining strategies for students to follow to be cyber safe:

Staff session has provided insight into behavioural trends and social media, how to manage cyber bul-

lying, cyber safety risks and classroom online safety education.

The evening session for our parents and carers provided information on the most popular social media

platforms, exploring what parents need to know about apps. Screen time and gaming recommenda-

tions were also discussed with strategies on how to implement them. ySafe provided a simple and ef-

fective model with step by step instructions on how set-up a cyber-safe home.

Following is a parent resources provided by ySafe: http://ysafe.com.au/ParentInformation.html A huge thanks to the Mount Claremont Primary School P&C for funding this very worthwhile series of cyber safety seminars.

    Faction Swimming Carnival

Last week we held our Faction Swimming Carnival at the Claremont Aquatic Centre on a nice warm and sunny afternoon. Well done to all students for their incredible performances in the water. So many of you have worked extremely hard over the last 6 weeks in swim training and it was fantastic to see you reap the rewards of your hard work.

Congratulations to Wambiri who were very narrowly crowned swimming champions for the 4th con-secutive year!

    Wambiri - 275 Boogalla - 270 Nyanda - 193

    Medal Recipients -

    Champion Boys & Girls: Alex M, Mya W, Zak S, Milly K, Aiden L, Leah B, Jackson N & Lily Mc.

    Runner Up Boys & Girls: Ben F, Isla N, Max G, Bronte C, Boh D, Nicholas F, Lotty G, Flynn W & Si-ena M.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance in helping to run the carnival, including staff, parents, faction captains and all senior students. I'd also like to particularly thank Paul Newsome and Samantha Campbell for their superb training sessions in the lead up to the carnival.

Congratulations to all students who qualified for the Interschool Swim Team. However as you are probably already aware, given recent events the Interschool Swimming Carnival has been postponed and will not be happening on April 1st as planned. As a result, MCPS swim training sessions will cease immediately. We are still hopeful of being able to run the Interschool Swimming Carnival in Term 4, we're currently working to lock in a potential date. Fingers crossed that our Interschool Swim Team will still have the opportunity to compete later on in the year.
