Return to School Full time The Premier and Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning announced earlier this week that all students will return to full time teaching and learning onsite at school from Monday 25 May, Week 5 Term 2. Staff at school are very excited about the recommencement of full time teaching and learning onsite and establishing our ‘new normal’. Please take the time to carefully consider the comprehensive information in this newsletter as we all transition back to site full time. Microsoft Teams ® and Take Home Learning Packs As of Friday 21 May, we will be removing student access to Microsoft Teams ® and ask that all students bring both of their Take Home Learning Packs #1 and #2 with them to school, if they haven’t done so already. Please be assured that in the unlikely event we are required to return to learning from home, we have Take Home Learning Pack #3 ready, and can grant access to Microsoft Teams ® in an instant. Drop off and Pick up Parents and carers are asked to continue to remain outside the school gates each morning and afternoon for drop off and pick up. By Monday, we will have new physical distance points outside the school gates to assist our community during times of waiting. If you ever need to pick your child up early, or drop them to school a little bit late, please press the buzzer at the gate and we will ensure staff meet you and your child at the gates. We have adjusted our routines inside the school every afternoon and at 2:50pm each day, teachers bring students to the COLA to line up for our end of day process: 1. OOSH students line up near the canteen and meet OOSH staff 2. The first students walked to the gate each afternoon are those who walk home, ride home and/or meet their parents and/or carers in the Aldi carpark 3. The next students walked to the gate are those without siblings 4. The final group walked to the gate are students who catch the bus and students with siblings 5. Staff remain at the gates until all children are collected Attendance Please be advised that students are expected to return to school full time from Monday 25 May. As such, we will resume using our daily SMS at approximately 9:30am requesting information from families on the reason for any identified student absence. Return to School Full time

The Premier and Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning announced earlier this week that all students will return to full time teaching and learning onsite at school from Monday 25 May, Week 5 Term 2.

Staff at school are very excited about the recommencement of full time teaching and learning onsite and establishing our ‘new normal’. Please take the time to carefully consider the comprehensive information in this newsletter as we all transition back to site full time.

Microsoft Teams ® and Take Home Learning Packs

As of Friday 21 May, we will be removing student access to Microsoft Teams ® and ask that all students bring both of their Take Home Learning Packs #1 and #2 with them to school, if they haven’t done so already. Please be assured that in the unlikely event we are required to return to learning from home, we have Take Home Learning Pack #3 ready, and can grant access to Microsoft Teams ® in an instant.

Drop off and Pick up

Parents and carers are asked to continue to remain outside the school gates each morning and afternoon for drop off and pick up. By Monday, we will have new physical distance points outside the school gates to assist our community during times of waiting. If you ever need to pick your child up early, or drop them to school a little bit late, please press the buzzer at the gate and we will ensure staff meet you and your child at the gates.

We have adjusted our routines inside the school every afternoon and at 2:50pm each day, teachers bring students to the COLA to line up for our end of day process:

1. OOSH students line up near the canteen and meet OOSH staff 2. The first students walked to the gate each afternoon are those who walk home, ride home and/or

meet their parents and/or carers in the Aldi carpark 3. The next students walked to the gate are those without siblings 4. The final group walked to the gate are students who catch the bus and students with siblings 5. Staff remain at the gates until all children are collected

Attendance

Please be advised that students are expected to return to school full time from Monday 25 May. As such, we will resume using our daily SMS at approximately 9:30am requesting information from families on the reason for any identified student absence. Your prompt reply to the SMS from the school is greatly appreciated.

Semester 1 Reports

We wish to acknowledge and thank all families and students for the amazing and supportive manner in which you have responded to the challenges associated with the COVID period and ongoing education.

Reflecting the unique nature of learning during this period, the NSW Department of Education has determined that it is most appropriate for schools to provide parents and carers with a modified student report for Semester 1, 2020.

Our reports will focus on the learning that has taken place so far this year, with a strong focus on English and mathematics. Reports will include individual student progress and achievement with the learning provided both at school and at home, together with guidance to support future learning.

The A-E scale that would normally be used, will not be utilised this semester. Student progress will be reflected on a three-level scale: working on, beginning to demonstrate and regularly demonstrating. Student attendance will be reported in three formats. The first format will include Week 1 – 7 of Term 1, the second format will include attendance data for Week 5 – 10 of Term 2. The third format will be a written comment reflecting engagement and participation in online learning and/or our Take Home Learning Packs.

At this point in time the Department has determined that parent teacher interviews are unable to go ahead in the usual face to face manner. In response we will be inviting our families to engage in either a telephone conversation or video conference to discuss learning and progress of our students with our families.

Junior Kookaburras

Our Junior Kookaburras program will continue to run this year, albeit in a modified format. When our school receives the appropriate authorisation from the Department of Education for our normal routines and programs to recommence, we will advise our families of the updated routines for our Junior Kookaburras program – including scheduled days, dates and times.

In the meantime, please ensure that if you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2021 that you fill out the Microsoft Form ® so that we can ensure a smooth transition to Junior Kookaburras. Please pass on to any friends or families that may have children starting Kindergarten 2021 the link to our Microsoft Form ®. The form can be completed easily on a computer or mobile phone and can be accessed at: https://bit.ly/2Zoy8Mc

School Photographs

We have received advice from Newcastle School Portraits that student photographs will likely be available for us to distribute to families in the next week or two. We will let all families know when these will be sent home with students.

Again, thank you to all of our families for your relentless support, flexibility, patience and cooperation as we all navigated learning from home and learning from school. We have been overwhelmed by your positive feedback and greatly appreciate the time taken to share your thoughts with us.

We are definitely looking forward to seeing all students back next week!
