KNIGHT OF THE MONTH

Alan M. Batey is awarded the April, 2018, Knight of the Month for Council 12228. Brother Al joined the Order in May 2005, is a 3rd degree member of the Order, is a Past Grand Knight for this Council, serves as the 2nd Year Trustee, and is our District Deputy for District 34. Additionally, Sir Knight Al is a 4th Degree member of Assembly 88.

At Council functions such as the Parish picnic, breakfasts and dinners, Al is there to ensure no one remains thirsty. He uses contacts with soft drink distributors, and other bargain hunting to supply beverages to these events and to many others at the parish. Most recently, Al did some deep cleaning in the kitchen. He also follows up on needed cleaning supplies.

Al lends his time to the Marion House Soup Kitchen and has served on the board of “The Home Front Cares” Veterans Charity. Al continues to give support to this organization and joins in welcoming our troops returning from deployment. Most recently, Al became the Hospitality Coordinator for scheduling the people for serving coffee and donuts after the 10:30 Mass.

Sir Knight Al has kept an eye out concerning the widows and families of departed Brother Knights, as well as other active Brothers in need. He helps where he can to assist any brother in need. By these efforts, Brother Batey truly demonstrates the first three principles of our Order.

By his dedication and tireless work Sir Knight Al Batey exhibits the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism to the council, parish, and community; and highly deserves the title “Knight of the Month” for April, 2018.

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

The Robert S. Condron family has been selected as the April, 2018, Family of the Month for the Mount St. Francis Council, number 12228. Bob joined the order in September 2017 and is a 3rd Degree.

The Condron family is very active in the parish and supportive of Council 12228 functions. Both Bob and Lynette have been very active in supporting the men and women for Christ Renews His Parish.

Recently, Lynette was Lay Director for the women’s CRHP. Because of her efforts and others, they had a

record number of women attend. One of the women in the CRHP had a husband whose diabetes was worsening, and his physical activities were becoming limited. Bob let the Knights know that they were looking for an exercise bike. A fellow Knight responded immediately and said he was willing to donate his exercise bike. Bob went over and picked it up and got it to the man later that day. This past month Gary Lowman received his first degree and became a fellow Knight in our council.

Bob is retired from being the media coordinator for the United States Olympic Committee for 28 years. Bob handled all media services for the USOC. Since joining the Knights, Bob is now the Public Relations director for assisting fellow Knights in announcing our programs in the church bulletin. In October, Bob will be inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame.

The Condron family genuinely demonstrates the principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity to our council, parish, and community. This family has earned and truly deserves the designation of “Family of the Month” for April 2018.

MOST RECENT 4TH DEGREE COUNCIL MEMBERS

Gonzales, Boo Kwong and Bob Condron.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME

The crack of the bat. The smell of freshly cut grass and white lines. A line drive to right field. Kids laughing with the mascot and enjoying minor league baseball. Throw in grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken in the parking lot. And celebrating America’s pastime with parishioners and friends.

It’s all happening June 26 at 6:40 p.m. at Sky Sox Stadium. Brought to you by the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Club at St. Francis. And it’ll cost you all of $2 a pop.

It’s “Two Dollar Tuesday” under the setting sun at Sky Sox Stadium. And for that you get a great meal, cooked by the Men’s Club. The Knights will order the tickets, bring all the plates and napkins and you can settle up at the tailgate.

What a night! Baseball. Friendship. Kids watching America’s pastime. Possibly grabbing some Cotton Candy, catching foul balls. Asking dad what a double play is. Cheering for the home team. Seventh inning stretch. All part of appreciating what’s good in America.

We’ll provide the burgers, hot dogs and drinks. You can bring a side dish or dessert for eight and some lawn chairs. Those who can could bring a table. The tailgate starts at 5 p.m. in the West end of the parking lot.

To order tickets contact Jon Gorski at [email protected]. or Bob Condron at [email protected]. All members of St. Francis….and their friends…are welcome. Deadline for ordering tickets is June 12.

Make this a special night for your friends and family.

PIKES PEAK NATIONAL CEMETERY

A Prayer for Fathers Almighty God, you have taught us that you are the Father of us all, and that all fatherhood takes its origin from you. You protect us from evil And provide our daily bread. You are strength and integrity, blessing and the font of life. We thank you, then, for our fathers. Though human, they are also a reflection of you, Lord God. They are your gift to us. We pray for all fathers today. May they realize the greatness of their vocation And have the strength to live it without fear. Forgive their sins, and keep their eyes raised up to you To those who still make this earthly journey with us, Give us the grace to love them as we should; And to those whom you have called from this life, Give a special place of honor in the heavenly kingdom With you, the Father of all. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Francis team of walkers, runners, and fundraisers raised $2,601 for Life Network. Team members were Elian Andrade, Maribeth & Steve Netherton, Harvey Siegle, Taryn Siegle, Peter & Kristen Zimmer and family.

The event reportedly raised nearly $240,000 which is used to provide life affirming programs in our community to over 15,000 babies, women and men.

It was a beautiful sunny day with a slight cool breeze, perfect for this outdoor event.

Thanks to all who supported us!
